****Attention ATI users****
I don't know if 8.12 drivers will be released before DX10 comes to AoC testlive servers. If it does and you plan to try DX10 these are the notes from the 8.11 ATI drivers regarding AoC and DX10...
Known Issues Under the Windows Vista Operating
System:
“Age of Conan” DirectX 10, may intermittently become unresponsive during
gameplay
------------
Resolved Issues for the Windows Vista Operating
System
During game play for “Age of Conan”, DirectX 10 may cause the screen to
blank
Hopefully 8.12 drivers will fix the known issue.

I hope so too- I have the 4870 radeon card :P
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
Hmm, ATIs own drivers are not their strongest side, they do reccomend the tweaked Omegadrivers, no other company would do that instead of their own.
I can't really understand why they don't hire that omega guy himself to do the drivers, they do really good hardware.
If you get problem like this, check around, there are a few good tweaks that makes most game flow better. Not sure if they exist to all ATI cards right now however.
8.12beta is out so by all means give it a whirl. AOC has been mentioned in the release notes for previous drivers so I would assume that it is a game they pay attention too and a fix would come.
ATI and his wonderfull products. I always buy Nvidia.
Sorry I wasn't trying to start a ATI vs. Nvidia thread. I use and have used ATI cards for years, never had major issues that would make me switch to one or the other.
With that said, some people just download new drivers and install them without checking the release notes. The post was just a warning for us ATI users who may be curious how AoC looks with DX10 and get in game only to realize you might have problems.
If you do have problems you now know it is driver related and not entirely the AoC client, if you are using the 8.11 drivers.
Jaysins where do you download 8.12 beta drivers? Is there also a page that list the release notes for beta 8.12 drivers?

Here you go dude. http://www.techpowerup.com/index.php?77908
though the official release notes aren't available yet ATI has promised pretty dramatic performance improvements. Good luck and don't mind the people argueing. It's almost unavoidable to not start a flame war these days. I'm running the betas and I love em. Overclock higher and seem to run smoother for me than 8.10 hotfix which is what I was previously using. Installed no problems than ran CCleaner to clean out older drivers. Good luck and let me know how it goes. I'm going to resub to Conan after finals.
While I am sure that you ATI users get great performance and all that out of most games, you will not running AOC. The chipset to say the least does not perform the best while "trying" to play the game. If you try and overclock the video to gain better peformance rather than just upgrading your cards, then you will have constant problems.
The nvidia chipsets while using cards 8800GT and above run optimal with the WHQL certified drivers that nvidia offers. Overclocking the video will cause issues while playing AOC, and their Tech Support team will immediately tell you to "unclock" it back to default when writing in to them.
I do understand the hype with ATI, I was a radeon user for years, but after a few comparisons to Graphic Quality of the shaders, I decided to stay with Nvidia during my last swap. I have tried the ATI 4870 series card with AOC and find that Checkboard graphics and other issue arrise when using the ATi card. They say that the game was built with Nvidia in mind and that it is recomended that users find their own solutions to any ATI issues you may have during gameplay.
So if you are wanting to come back to AOC, I suggest you do it by the book, they do not even mention ATI in the recomended Specifications for the game, thus creating a "loophole" for support.
Good luck..
If you have problems running DX10with whatever config or cards, just switch back to DX9 through the video setup menu in AoC for the time being.
You're not forced to use DX10, it's an option that will mature with time.
I run my VisionTek 3870x2 overclocked for all my games and had zero problems, zero. I use ATI Overdrive to test custom clocks and let it suggest the overclock speed. Both the GPU and the Memory clock are a little past halfway mark.
Every setting in AoC for detail is maxed and I can average 40-50fps. Sounds like your computer not the game.
I run windows vista x64 sp1 and don't really have any client issues with AoC at all. I did back in May/June when I played, bugs out the wazoo. Since coming back it has been very stable for me.
To each their own...

8.12 released today! Installed and ready to be tested!
"ATI videocard owners take note - AMD has released new Catalyst drivers, v8.12, for both Windows XP and Vista. The new Catalyst release brings with it performance improvements in several DX9 and DX10 games, including up to a 25 percent boost in Crysis (DX10) for both Single and Crossfire mode. More recent releases, such as Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3, also receive a claimed performance boost by up to 10 percent and 15 percent respectively.
Many bug fixes accompany 8.12, such as improved HD video playback no longer causing Vista to stop responding, better support for connecting an All-in-Wonder card to a Yamaha receiver via an HDMI cable, and several more.
The new drivers also unlock the ATI Stream compute acceleration capabilities built into Radeon HD 3870, HD 3870 X2, and all HD 4000 series graphics cards. Similar to Nvidia's CUDA technology, ATI Stream is a set of advanced hardware and software technologies that enable AMD GPUs to work with the CPU and accelerate applications other than just graphics. To show off the technology, AMD has made available its free ATI Video Converter utility."
Part of the reason AoC doesn't have DX10 on live is because of ATI cards not functioning correctly and causing crashes ect.
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher
8.12 update above fixes a lot of things in lots of different games. I have been running a 4870x2 in one machine since they came out no issues at all in AoC for example, but Crysis Wars and Far Cry 2 gave me jip. I believe that ATI cards in relation to dx10 isn't causing any delay for the client release for test.
