I have been trying to find THE online game for me for a while now, but I have had no such luck as to find it yet. I have been interested in Lord of the Rings Online for some time now, but it looks a bit like WoW from merely glancing at it. So, could somebody tell me some stuff about the game?
Stff like, What the dungons are like,
Whats the gameplay like?
Does anything in particular set this game apart from other online games?
What is the community like?
What's the population like?
Does it get boring after a while?
I know they are pretty much newbie questions, but I am a newbie after all. If possible, just please tell me anything a newbie would need to know about the game. Thanks for reading all that, mabe for answering, and I might see you in Lord of the Rings Online soon! ^_^

IF your a 5h + a day player that lives for raiding or pvp this isnt for you.
But if you have a good computer and liek nice graphics.
If for you questing is more interesting that grinding and you dont like open pvp.
This game's athmospher is very agreable and the zones dont look all the same liek in some mmos.
Then i'd say you should really get the trial.
This game really got me hooked because i found a great kin ( guild) early in the game).
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
I hope you will enjoy the game!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
Maybe you should tell us what you HAVE played, and we can give you an idea. As you can see, there are some differing opinions.
A majority who post here will of course tell you it is an awesome game, as they love it, then others who do not post here often may tell you things like....
It is WoW with prettier landscapes. A lot of similarities exists, like kill 10x quests, but there are story based quests. A majority need a group to finish the story line (it is like they build up, to climax in a group, so no solo if you wish to read the last chapter of your book...)
The game is like most MMO's in that if you like to craft, do slow combat and think, and are forgiving of the way your characters look, you will be fine.
I found it tedious, and it gets boring around level 30, but if you are a WoW fan, like to RP a lot, and have the patience to level, then this will be for you.
Good luck
I agree that LotrO is a child of WoW just like other recent MMOs such as WAR and AoC. They are all simillar to WoW but with some differences so you can choose game depending on what you want from a MMO

From somone who never really got into the MMORPG scene, I love LOTRO. I played UO for about a year and a half. Tried Guild wars for about a year. Played a trail of WOW but stopped there, seemed too much like everything else. I've been playing LORO sense release now and purchased the lifetime subscription.
To me, the world of LOTR was a big draw and the quests do a good job of keeping tied to that world. There are a lot of kill X number of this creature quests but even these usually have a decent reason while. Such as they need furs to make blankets for they outpost or something along that lines. I am on of the rarer ones that actually read the quests.
I mostly a solo player but when i've joined in pickup groups i've rarely had a bad experience with the other players.
Most of the dungeons are rather enjoyable to go through. 1 or 2 excpetions here are there. They've put a lot of work into the looks of the bigger instances. The game itself is beatifual and the Mines has some spectacular views as you get deeper in.
To me what sets LOTRO appart is that it seems to have a purpose to what you do so it keeps progressing more interesting.
Population depends a lot on the server. I'm on one of the less populated servers but usualy don't have an issue getting things done.
Lastly, if you are a hardcore raider, or pvp player, don't bother, you lose interest quickly. Outside of that, LOTRO was just a little bit different from the others out there and has kept me playing.
