I believe people's hatred of MJ is solely due to his overconfidance and the fact he is the spokesperson for Mythic, basically. Newsflash everyone, developers of nearly all game companies have cocky attitudes about their products. It is a mindset one must have when developing a game. If you doubt and second guess your ability to create a game, youalready fail. You have to have "delusions of Grandure". Mark Jacobs is acting no different than many developers in game companies. They all like to say they will release ONLY a great game. The term great is quite subjective.
As for the attitude of the company. I'd rather deal with Mythics "Rock on dude!" attitude than Blizzard "Holier than though" attitude. I went to GDC 3 times now and 2 of those 3, Blizzard reps were cocky jerks with too many damn muscles. Their attitude: "We are the best of the best. We know how to game hard. We arn't nerds like you though. We work out and stuff. We ain't gonna accept college grads like you. We only except expert, and you ain't one, so move on along. No we don't have internships or mentor program. We don't give a shit about anyones future."
So I'd rather deal with immature happy Mythic than cocky Blizzard.
My faith with Mythic is slightly higher now than normal. I got everything I expected from this game and Mythic. I played DAOc from launch to New Frontiers. I watched how Mythic handled things then and I expected as much now. I'm actually surprised that they are handling things better and listening to players better too.
Back when DAOc launched THERE WAS NO REASON TO RVR. People just did it to do it. There were no Realm points, realm levels, realm abilities then. There was no Darknessfalls. No bonus EXP around captured keeps. None of that. People could only capture a relic and kill a dragon. That didn't happen much.
6 months later the game had all the stuff listed above and RvR was really rockin then. I say this because people claim that DAOC was so much better, yet they forget that DAOC started in a much worst state than WAR. During that time, when Mythic patched their game, ever good decision was met with an equially bad one. They never got anything right. Their patches were simular to WoW's patches today. Upgrade something and ruin somthing else. Mythic swore people wanted everquest style PvE, and they rushed shitty expansions. Trials of Atlantis was the worst of them. They also ruined the game with New Frontiers, by taking all the uniquness out of the zones and making them all a gneric setup that required 50 mn raids jsut to take one keep as apposed to the old system that required only a skillful group of 8.
Long story short. Mythic has upgraded form their DAOC days, so my faith is still with them. Anyone who says they lost faith has not paid much attention to how mythic worked in the past.
How Mythic can continue to allow GOA manage their game in the EU is beyond me. There is an obivious problem at GOA and they are not fit to manage a game of this scale in the EU. And since Mythic is not addressing this issue and allowing its EU player base suffer under the hands of these incompetents they have lost my faith too.
exactly. That the main issue atm at least in Europe.
Remove GOA from the equation, and most of the issues affecting WAR in europe will be gone.
I never had faith in Mythic. I keep my faith in God alone. Mythic is a business and like every business it wants to make money. Best way to do that is please as many people as possible with the least amount of effort and money out of their pocket.
Comments
I blame EA, for forcing Mythic to come out with an un-finish game. And blame Mythic for alll the hype but fail to deliver.
And finally myself for giving in to the hype..... /sign....
Humans never learn from history.
