Cryptic is an overall great studio with some very talented and caring people working for it. I wish them well in their new venture as part of Atari. Though...hopefully this means that Jack Emmert will get fired now. Wait, no, I take that back...he might get a job somewhere else and screw up more games. Oh man, decisions decisions...I can't decide if I want him fired or not!
Please go to the Champions site http://www.champions-online.com/ All Cryptic staff are being kept on as well as all those in management and Atari has announced they will not interfere in the development of the game. It seems after this was anounced at the champions site alot of people were starting to get nervous about this buy out and what it could mean for the champions game.So one of the Admins had to respond to all the questions being asked.Go to the web site and check out the forums on this topic.
Every publisher swears they won't interfere. Whether they keep their word or not is something else altogether. And frankly, Infogrames is not known for their honesty or forthrightness. I would still say a high level of caution should now be observed when it comes to Champions Online and Star Trek Online.
Don't grab any pre-orders for these games. Definitely wait until after release and the reviews come out.
Name one instance were a publisher said they would not interfere with a company and then broke that promise. Even the fiasco that happened with Vanguard was all about Sigil, and had nothing to do with SOE.
How about Infogrames saying Obsidian had full development control over games, but then Infogrames forced out both KotOR 2 and NWN 2? How about making a deal with Ossian ( indy devs ) to make an adventure pack for NWN 2, and then forcing the game to be pushed back over a year from release date because they decided it would have to have a brand new type of DRM. And now that the newest Obsidian expansion pack has been released, Ossian is STILL waiting for theirs to come out.
Gee, only needed one example to show Infogrames may not stick to their word.
How about that?
I just went searching and I could not find one news report on this subject. Do you have any proof or are you just so desperate to make a point you are bringing up some RPG wive's tale?
Try the NWN2 official forums. The answers you seek are there. In fact. make it simple. Simply copy my post and make a thread over on the NWN2 forums and ask people to verify. You should have at least a few before Chris Priestly locks it down.

Oh really? with their 200+ million dollar debt how do you figure that? http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157491.html You can bet Atari will force anything half playable out the door the min they can figure they'll make a profit on thier investment
Ah, but that's the beauty of this whole thing. With Cryptic right on the verge of releasing CO, that means instant income for Atari/Infogrames which they desperately need. That's why Cryptic gets 27 million up front with 20 million to follow. I'm sure that the merger was far better for Cryptic than some of the other 'mergers' we've seen in the recent past. I see Cryptic and Atari as being nearly equal partners in this, and that is a good business as both sides are going to be behind the product because they equally have a lot riding on it.
I just wanted to poke my head in here and reiterate some things:
1. The release date for Star Trek Online has not changed. We're still planning on releasing the game in 2009. We're sorry for any confusion. 2. This will not affect the production or release of Star Trek Online or Champions Online. Cryptic has retained complete control over the development of these games and we plan to see it through
I hope this answers any concerns you may have.

Though Cryptic hasn't officialy set a release date for STO, this seems to suggest that they have been planning to release it in 2009.
Which doesn't surprise me as I think they are as far along on STO as they are on Champions, and, if they are using the same engine, I wouldn't be surprised if this new third project of theirs will be ready to release in 2010.
Could you name the D&D properties that Atari owns?
Infogrames banks Atari's success on recognition of the namesake.
People seem to forget that Infogrames IS Atari. It's just business double-talk that makes you think they "own" Atari. They bought the name and changed their company name years ago. They had a very long report about it on G4tv when it happened.
Atari owns the publishing rights to EVERY SINGLE D&D game made for the next 10 years. That's when their contract with Wizards of The Coast is up.
And knowing WoTC pretty well, they won't give a shit that they've allowed bad D&D games released (Storm of Zehir is a shining example) and will continue to allow Atari publishing rights.
Only think we may see decent in the realms of D&D computing is Ossian Studio's NWN2 adventure pack and if Interplay is serious about making another D&D game through Atari.

LOL name one developer EA has bought out that they have not done that to. Here is a hint; The first online game company, I can think of, that was bought out and this done to was Kesmai/Gamestorm.
Bioware, DICE, Mythic and Pandemic just to name a few. EA has been a different company since John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts took over. Hence why we had some great new IPs from EA this year and he is letting those dev teams do their own thing.
these is the expressions that i feel could have happen. I also read that message from Champions.online and I agree that Cryptic is good maker. It will be a VERY VERY BAD THING to see Cryptic to lose out since they have City of Heroes/City of Villians doing good. This MMO game I have played from the start and know what good work Cryptic have done.

To the above, I have read that too on that site. STO has been delayed before, so sad to say. But I do believe Cryptic will get it done, if this company Atari doesnt blow in their faces.
But is is true what Cryptic does. They are a good MMO makers.

They own everything before the 3.5 ruleset, which is still owned by WotC. That's why Turbine chose the 3.5 for LotRO.

"In short, I thought NGE was a very bad idea" - Raph Koster talking about NGE on his blog at raphkoster.com
Its also interesting that Atari have won the deal from CCP to distribute Boxed versions of Eve, with their new expansion being released in march.
Atari seem to be looking to re-invent themselves during these world economicly difficult times.
