Don't buy this game!!!

Calintz333Calintz333 Member UncommonPosts: 1,193

This game is really good, its fun and enjoyable and I Was just about to buy it yesterday. I did the trial and its by far one of the best games iv ever played mmorpg wise, great community and the game itself is really fun!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! or any SoE game for that matter, Look what they did to EQ2, they added a cash shop ON TOP of the subscription fee, I can tell you this move right there made me reconsider buying and starting on vanguard, no matter how fun or good the game is I will not support a company that backstabs and slaps their player base like they did to the EQ fans. I hope people realize what SoE is doing and protest all their games. If they did it to EQ what keeps them from doing it to Vanguard in the future?

    I love uninformed posting.

Telling people not to buy because you can't understand what is going on.

LoL, let's hear your spin on it. Tell us how to interpret these statements made prior to the introduction of "Stationcash":

"We have no plans what so ever to do actual sales of in game items, and I'm personally very opposed to the idea for EverQuest. I think microtransations can be a valid business model if planned from the ground up for a game, but it would be very very bad for EQ."

    and

I've been a regular lurker on this site for a while but I wanted to step in here and dispel something that's just plain not true - I don't have my name highlighted here, but anyone that doubts it's me can email me at jsmedley@soe.sony.com and I'll happily reply.Lies.

We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement.

In any event, I wanted to stop in and at least set the record straight - you aren't going to be seeing RMT allowed on the non-exchange enabled servers.

    Let me get this straight,

You wont buy this game because the people who manage this game also manage another game that charges you money to buy something in that game?

Let me get this straight. You think that the same company that owns and runs Vanguard and is a proven liar to gamers of their other products won't be introducing this item shop to Vanguard?

Coulda swore that all read of EQ and EQ II.

At any rate, telling people not to buy a game because of something that could possibly happen in the future is baseless and uninformed.  No need to spin anything.

From the way it looks, the quick look I gave it, this new RMT system doesn't seem like something that would affect gameplay much.  Seems like a tool to try and bring in new players that are worried about starting a game late and not being able to get any starting gear.  IMO.

I think his point is that SOE have stated in the past that there is no way they would introduce cash shops into up and running games .... and then they do, so the chances are (and I am sure it will happene) that not to far down the line, Vanguard will be a cash shop too.

I thought the idea of cash shops was to generate income on FTP games, not subscription games - I could be wrong here. It seems rather greedy to charge a sub and then offer items for cash ingame. Sounds like someone needs some more money ....

So these cash shops are in EQ2 now ?

And what can you buy in them?

Things bought in them can also be gained without rl cash?

SOE is well known in the market for being undesirable, of that there is no doubt.

In fact i dont like them myslef that much.

However i play VG for me not for them and decided that my dislike of SOE will not prevent me from playing a game i enjoy.

In that way i dont get irate about petty things that they do and continue my enjoyment of VG unpreturbed.

  • HazmalHazmal Member CommonPosts: 1,013

I'll post this in your other thread Samurai just to be sure.

"The Marketplace will offer a variety of items to enhance your in-game experience. The options include potions for adventuring and tradeskilling, house pets, or pets that will follow you as you adventure, and even armor for your appearance slots!"  Pulled from the SOE site.

Now I don't play EQ2 or EQ anymore, so I don't pretend to know.  From what this lists, I don't see weapons or other "adventuring" gear in that list.  Does anyone else?

If your point is that they are selling only fluff, then you are wrong. I don't have a stationpass account obviously but here is a pic that Waterlilly posted in another thread showing experience potions for sale. I hope you are not gonna suggest that experience potions do not offer an advantage. I don't  know what all the other items are, but there are many. There is a gear tab.

All of those weapons say ornamentation.

Also, 50% bonus to xp...that is the base of your argument?  Really now.  You get dinky items like that for buying Collector's Editions of games.  So people will be able to level faster in games where most people are level cap?  This will surely destroy any semblance of the old game.

I can't help but be sarcastic in the last few lines, what a ridiculous thing to blow out of proportion.

I bought the collectors edition on amazon for 8 bucks, with a full game soundtrack, cloth map, 10 buddy keys, and a full month of free play. Good 8 bucks.

You do see that there is both an Ornamentation tab and a separate Gear tab? Obviously the Gear tab is something different than Ornamentation. Logic dictates that fact.

Logic also dictates that you are in the "All Items" tab, which includes gear.

Edit- I understand your willingness to jump to any conclusion that presents itself with no basis.  Please direct that at the Darkfall forum where it belongs and is rampant.  This hasn't been said for Vanguard and until it is, this debate is pointless grasping at straws.  I don't see where your point can be made among any of the information provided.  You seem to think differently.

Edit 2 - Since you just pulled quotes from the EQ2 forum, I thought it funny you left this one out so I'll add it.

"Sony seams[sic] to have hopped on the micropayment band wagon. With 1/2 fluff gear and some exp potions. Go spend more money. Wow never thought I'd see this from this company."

this may actually help Vanguard some. People pissed about the RMT in eq2 may come over to VG, for a while at least. What will you guys do when/if VG is added to the list of Stationcash games?

So far I haven't seen a need to abandon any ship over this.   All of the purchase items are fluff or for aesthetics; I guess I should also include the little 50% exp thing in my list too.  An armor set for 1,000 Creds = $1 seems to be just for show.

Can you post or link images that actually show stats for real weapons or armor that you can purchase through this system?  If any exist that is, which I'm not convinced anything of consequence does.

First I will emonerdrage, followed by QQ which will finally lead me to massive drinking.  On a honest note, I feel it will not have a significant impact on VG if they were to add it to the game. If they add items that will impact  the economy  noticeably and the PVE/RAID grind then it may become an issue. Just my thoughts.

Except I'm not sure what emonerdrage is...didn't think emo kids got angry, just sad.

Been trying to get that across too.  Along with the fact that the stuff you buy will have next to no impact on the game or the economy.

I can't believe I am replying to this post but here goes.

FYI I played Vanguard from launch and the game was doomed on its original course.  When SOE took over the game has had massive improvements to content, stability and has a chance of developing into a niche game.  So unfortunately SOE on this occasion saved the game instead of killing it.  The only party losing out here is you because I think Vanguard is a good alternative to a lot of games out there.  I had some good memories and that was during the bug fest years.

If that last jab was directed at me..Please dont label me. You do not know me. or my motives.
I just found this after a bit of searching. Looks like massively.com is stating it is "appearance armor". Thats a big plus over it being actual armor. Anyway Im done. Have fun in your games.

    Oh it wasn't.

It was directed at the OPs of the topics that were obviously not aimed at discussing what might happen if this deal was to happen to VG; just the fact that it will happen and SOE is the boogieman.  Glad you found that link, I thought SOE was wording it like that but it was never explicity stated.
