You have a point... I should have said, 10 people in the Western hemisphere want to play a FFA-PvP game. Regardless, this game will still fail miserably. I expect it to do about as well as DnL did. It should make TR look like a huge hit in comparison.
AH, so those 100k-200k playing UO from the Western Hemisphere for 4 years while FFA PvP was still going is <10 as well. I mean..... wow you got me there bud.
Let it go, he's a waaghboi. You know, one of those who enjoy a failure.
Awwww but I didn't even get to point out the 220k+ registerd on the DF official forums waiting for the game and it's FFA PvP lol.
There are like 10 people on the planet that really want to play an FFA-PvP game. Hopefully this is the last game that has to fail miserably before developers realize that.
+226.000 as we speak on the Darkfall forum.
Thats alot more then the 10 people you claim will play Darkfall.
On a good release id say +500.000 in a couple of months is a reasonable reachable number of subs.
Im very satisfied that so many people is fedup with the same themepark games in different versions as the just about only option in the MMORPG genre.
Darkfall is fresh air in a genre of decline.
FFA PvP with a good alignement system and consequences will create room for many different playstyles.
An FFA game needs to have consequences to avoid becoming a ridiculous gank-fest. That's why it works in EvE, for example. In no way does that mean it isn't FFA.

lol, I would say this is about as off mark as you can get lol. EvE has 250kish subs and its FFA PvP LOL. Wasn't Lineage 2 FFA PvP? LOL and didn't they have 1mil subs LOL.
Care to try again?
Lineage II actually had 4.5 million subs at it's high point worldwide. 1.5 million in NA and EU alone. It had the second highest subscriber numbers in the world at one point beaten out only by Lineage 1... another FFA PvP game. This was of course in the pre-WoW days of MMOs but it does show that there is a very large market for such a game worldwide. Yeah, I'd have to agree that there is certainly far more than 10 people that want this type of game.
Edit: Oh and before some moron comes on here and claims they were all Chinese farmers think about what your saying first. Sure, many were farmers but they wouldn't have been in business if there wasn't a large thriving player base to sell their farmed goods to. They weren't selling their Adena to each other now were they.
I'm going to start working on an 'I told you so' signature image now. So I can come to this forum and flash it around about 3 months after this game launches and promptly flops. Well I guess I can wait a while to start on that image... it's not like this game is coming out any time soon.

Heya, let's make a small bet here. In three months, if DF hasn't come out, or is huge failure, I'll cancel this account (no alts either) and promise to never come back, but only after I've made an official thread here where I let everyone know how right you were and that you are a king among men.
Of course, if DF is a success in 3 months from now (shall we say over 100k subs?), you'll do the same.

Deal?
I personally wouldn't call a game with 100k subs a success. People have plenty of harsh things to say about Conan and WAR, but both those games at least managed 500k-750k subs within a month or two.

mmk then go away? why would you lurk the forums of a game you obviously know nothing about and you hate and you think will fail? dont you think thats a waste of YOUR time? its ok to dislike a game or wish the worst for it but its quite another to dislike a game and wish the worst for it and STILL continue to post negative threads/replies on its forums. what exactly are you people ( dont worry your not alone, there are many people like you) trying to do? go play a game or go outside or do something other than try to act like you can see the future. Stop confusing him with facts!
I guess the original quote here sums up why this topic exists, because there is a misconception of FFA PVP. Everyone assumes it will be a pointless gankfest and they immediately plug their ears and stomp their feet ( La La La …. I can’t here you ). The fact is there are many different kinds of FFA PVP ranging from a mindless, no consequence deathmatch to a risk/reward, faction based, karma/outlaw aspects which Darkfall has all of. I am a PVE oriented player who likes the drama of an unsafe world. Though you won’t find me actively seeking out someone to randomly PK , I certainly welcome the idea of having to defend myself, protect someone from a PK, or participate in guild or faction battles. I played Lineage2 for a long time and I miss the drama it offered in terms of its PVP system.
One additional comment, in regards to the fears or the full loot system (please correct me if I’m wrong). The way I understand it is, your character is more defined by your acquired skills and not by the gear you carry. Besides the gear is supposed to decay and would have to be replaced at some point anyway. Therefore a loss of items would not be devastating like it would be in other MMO’s ( Plus this makes crafting more useful). As far as gold, money or whatever they call it, I assume there is some kind of bank, so just like RL you shouldn’t be carrying around your life savings.
But free for all just mean its free to kill everywhere for all.
Its called hardcore becouse of full loot and sandbox and AI mobs is also very good.
So it will be nich game but future will tell if game attracks more casuals and those who want mainly pve craft and other things besides pvp.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
As long as there are consequences for you killing others im extatic! Much like real life, there are more than a few people alive today cause of consequences. I guess we will have to see, but i bet there will be a decent deterrent to just killing every person you see.
Unless they're a member of the enemy race.
Or if they attack you first, if they are an ally or of your race.
lol Friendly fire is going to make that one a bit fun lol. You accidently AoE and nail a bunch of your faction members.......... suddenly your running from an angry mod lol. Gonna be fun to see that happen every now and then lol.
LOL!
I doubt I'm the only one who has grouped with people that I'd have liked to stick a couple arrows in their back!
You know those ones who...
...Go and pull a "few more mobs" even though you have half the dungeon beating on your group already.
...Start looting the bodies before all the mobs are dead.
...Whine about every decision that doesn't go their way.
...Talk trash in OOC the minute you finally kick them out of your group.
Yeah... those group members.
Got an idea there will be more than one PvE group that end up as a Free for All PvP grudge match.

Some may think it is basically the same thing, but for me anyway, the former is worse than the latter.
I agree with the OP the proper term is Open PvP not FFA PvP. Free for all means that everyone runs around attacking everyone all time time. While Open PvP means you have the right to do so. So Open PvP talks about game mechanics and FFA PvP talks about in game situation.

True; this is an important distinction.
Seems like a lot of potential DF lovers are turned off by the thought they will be relentlessly ganked out of the city gates. I strongly doubt this will be the case, except perhaps for the first couple of days of release, after which people discover the value of having good alignment (learn the better skills/spells, access to better rewarding quests, cheaper prices, etc).
Yeah, the way I read it someone who kills an ally will be flagged as an outlaw and instantly be attacked by the guards in any formerly friendly city (so he will have no NPC cities that he can enter). And he will also be attackable by every other player/race in the game, and perhaps even have a reward on his head too. That would be a pretty rugged life to have to endure.
The out I guess, is that he may be able to enter a friendly player city. But allowing this would not endear that (criminal) city with other allied players, I'm sure. And I wonder if allowing a criminal player to enter your city will forfeit your chance to refuse/not accept a war declaration by another allied guild?
I would think, though, that there will have to be some kind of mechanism for regaining lost faction. For instance, what's going to happen to the poor trigger happy newb who lets lose an errant AOE spell at the wrong time, and accidentally kills one of his own who is already low on health?
So it is going to be very interesting to see how all this will actually be dealt with.

Oh noes I was going to focus on AOEs and CC magic first so I didnt have to worry about loots - still could be fun tho ^^
- not even sure if there is CC in this game...but if there is Yay!
That's a point AOE healing? heh could be a pain - but I suppose they may limit it to group? even still if you have to aim to heal and some pesky guy on the otherside gets in the way? heh you've really got me thinking now.

I'm the most blinded fanboy of Lineage II. Unfortunately Lineage II never got 4.5 million subscribers. May be you are adding Lineage and Lineage II. At the best moment before WoW launch Lineage II got a bit over 2 millions, most of them in Korea. The 9 servers in western countries i think got no more than 100K subs at the best moment. You can check it in the quarterly reports of NCSoft and in www.mmogchart.com if you don't believe me.
most likely the "dire" consequences of pking is just not being able to goto your cities anymore. I highly doubt its losing skills or anything of the sort.

no...you got it all wrong...he is not a DF fan. He is hoping for a ACTUAL successful game. He might just be a WoW fan.
Guards attacking does nothing except maybe preventing the player who is flagged as a murder from attacking in, and around towns. The mechanic is a failure unless the guards loot the player, or search for the closest player to loot the corpse.
I think a better solution would have been to make armor and weapon weight so heavy that after 2 or 3 full loots you will have to go back or be over weight, which would reduce your stats so much that you become easy pickings.

lol @ your idea, that's overpunishing pkers, there needs to be enough risk in pking that the game doesn't become a gank fest, but enough reward in pking that it doesn't become lineage 2.
ANYONE can loot your corpse once your dead, it is said mobs will loot what they need, not sure about gaurds though, and anyway you miss the whole point, all npc resources (cities, quests, spawns, etc.) become unavailable to you. That and you are blacklisted by everyone thats not in an ARAC (all race all class clans)

Can't wait too see how this turns out!

lol, I would say this is about as off mark as you can get lol.

AH, so those 100k-200k playing UO from the Western Hemisphere for 4 years while FFA PvP was still going is <10 as well. I mean..... wow you got me there bud.
Let it go, he's a waaghboi. You know, one of those who enjoy a failure.
no...you got it all wrong...he is not a DF fan.
