PDO Review

Phoenix Dynasty Review

Description: 2.5D MMORPG in Warring Ancient China.

Gameplay Overall: 7/10

PDO has a lot of growth potential but it just isn't just ready to play with the big boys yet.  This game is very good but it just doesn't seem to gain much recongnition in the MMO world.  There is a lot of competition out there.  PDO's brother World of Qin II, which is very similar, has gotten a lot of praise from players but for some reason same praise for PDO gets lost in translation.  Over time I do believe that PDO will find it niche and become a force within the MMO world, but the community is going to have to expand more for that to happen.

Quests:  8/10

A lot of quests from guild quests, to team quests, to the main storyline quest, to large and small branch quests and special holiday quests.  PDO does have a lot to offer to keep the player busy and both in start of play and end game.  Certain quests the player can do alone but other do require a team or without a team to complete at a higher level.  A lot of the quest dialogue made me laugh.  There is one quest where you have to find a little boys lost puppy.  It turns out some hungry bandits stole the puppy and eat it.  You return to the boy and lie to him about the puppy running across the hills and being happy.  I haven't seen such a morbid quest lol.

Community: 6/10

The PDO community is smaller and the game is still being introduced to people.  The game doesn't have the flashy 3D graphics and WASD movement, which are very popular elements today.  The game is such an experience.  I wish the community was larger.  People know everyone who plays and are willing to help out the new guys.  There are lots of rewards to help out new guys lol.

Carfting: 9/10

The crafting system is very clever and extensive.  Certain living skills are straight forward and simple, like mining and herb collecting.  The more complex one like armorcrafting are a challenge to master.  The system is pretty easy to understand and you can make good equipment by randomly putting in materials but only when you have a true understanding of the system will you make good equipment consistantly.  The crafting system is an unique aspect to the game and bring something the other games don't have to the table.

Pvp: 9/10

Some games just let the button smasher win... PDO is much different.  It is all about skill and timing.  Of course the greater the level difference the less chance you have to win but when a priests (a healer) is up against the more powerful wizard, the priest has a chance to win.  The game isn't about one class or element domination.  It is about knowing what you're doing and learning how to make the most out of your char.

GuildWar/Bayer: 7/10

Bayer is much different from other mmos, i played.  It can be confusing to new players because it is fast pace.  I enjoy the daily rewards if the guild wins a city in Bayer but certain guilds tend to dominate.  Also alliances with other guilds are hard to make and maintain.  When everyone is fighting it is hard to see who is from what guild so making alliances and keeping guildies happy when the alliance guild keeps killing them... well the system wasn't made for alliances, which is disappointing because I'd like to see that dynamic element be a part of Bayer.  Alliances can also help the little guilds grow.
