You're correct that CCP's Game Time Cards (GTC) are a form of Real Money Trade (RMT).
But CCP's way is a controlled way with limited extend of RMT.
CCP does not support direct exchange of $ into ISK (in-game money) or in-game items. People who try this will be banned, and the player community is reporting people advertising this type of RMT.
The GTC system may not be perfect. Especially if you can use a bug to make high-value items for free it will automatically allow you to abuse the GTC system aswell.
But without this exploit, the GTC market corrects itself to a certain extent. Yes, you have players who buy GTCs for $ and sell them for ISK to afford a Carrier. But this means that there are players who spend part of their playing time only to collect enough ISK to buy a GTC for it. So basically what happened is that one player payed another players subscription for 90 days, while the other player has spent several hours in-game to make ISK for the first player and gets to play for free for 90 days in return.
What is usually meant by RMT when it is discussed is:
- A bunch of computers using macros or a bunch of underpaid chinese grinding 24/7 to make in-game currency or items. Those will then be sold over websites totally out of control of the game developpers.
- This onesidedly creates in-game value and distorts in-game markets.
- $ from players buying from those websites don't go to the developpers of the game.
I hope this clears up a bit the difference between clasic RMT and CCP's way.

It doesn't change the fact that I refuse to play a MMOG where any form of RMT is allowed. All forms of RMT should be discouraged by developers and violaters should be banned.
EvE economy has been tainted for years. I recall the high ore nerf that benefited early players and gave them an unfair headstart with manufacturing, the first T2 blueprint donated by an EvE artist to his friend giving that corporation a monopoly, the manipulation of markets by players who didn't have to deposit their bids in an escrow account so that when it came time to pay there was no isk in their accounts and other players got the shaft by having to bid higher. The fact that they sponsor RMT with their time cards just makes it worse. That player's confession proves the whole player economy is a joke. Glad I left EvE when I did.
Sorry to break you fantasy bubble, but CCP does not support RMT. There is no shop you can buy any Eve item from, no special leveling tools, etc.
Please inform us of a MMO that has not had problems with it's economy and exploiters? Bingo, they all have had that problem, one time or another. Most of these companies don't provide half the information that CCP does when an exploit is discovered. At least CCP is honest about it.
Eve is not for everyone, it's harsh environment discourages many. I won't criticize anyone that does not like this type of play. Everyone of us plays games to have fun. But pointing out minor blips in the development of the game, like the above post, just makes you look foolish.
RMT= Real Money Trading
In EVE, you are allowed to buy time cards ( a non virtual world entity) with real money and trade those time cards ingame for ingame coin known as isk. End result is that a player gets to buy isk with real money.
What part don't you understand? Or is the intermediary step of trading the time cards for the isk too confusing for you? Who is looking foolish for being in denial?
Bzzt, wrongo again, RMT is item shops, lots of things that speed character development. None of that in Eve. Nothing you can do with isk can advance your character. Only time does that.

I read a lot on this forum, but I rarely post, but now I think it's time for me to comment a few things.
First of all, in EVE, 9 months, and 250M ISK is nowhere an experienced player, it's nowhere time enough to start looking at Capital ships - I grant you can get the skills to fly one, but you won't be able to support your ships, you won't have skills to defend it, you wouldn'tt have the engineering skills required to perma-run capital shield boosters, and so on - 9 months and 250M ISK is just barely out of the newbie-stage. I believe the writer of the letter, stating that he petitioned the exploit to CCP 4 years ago is full of crap - I imagine a kid got caught in cheating, banned, and his only last resort is to make it look like poor lil me who let them know 4 years ago, and CCP sucks, and so on.
CCP stated that they received the petition 5 days prior to the actions were taken, which is indeed too long, but in all fairness, EVE is a complex game, they needed to search through account statements, transfers, monitor involved players, watch the pipeline of the moon mats, who they went to, where they sold, and so on. I ma 100% positive that CCP acted well, and I am glad to hear about the bannings - you know very well that you are exploiting a bug, you know very well that it's against the rules, and you know damn well that your clock is ticking once you start cheating.
EVE is a fantastic game, and it will remain a fantastic game, and as you say, there's a prick in every crowd, same goes for EVE. There will always be cheaters, farmers, griefers, and so on, and one of the challenges in EVE (as in any MMO) is to get past that, and make your game fun to you.
Many people talk about "all the scandals" there have been in EVE, but in all honestly, 3-4-5 scandals in 5 years is not much, and it is only blown to the proportions they are, because CCP has a very open communication with their player base - another thing I love about CCP - they even wrote that after the last expansion the game took a performance hit, they screwed up, and asked for players to help them on the test servers to to fix the issues, which they now have.

In closing, Way to go, CCP, you are doing a great job entertaining me, and I appreciate the swift actions against the cheaters - and don't bother listening to the whiners out there.

Correct, unlimited ISK does not advance your character - you can buy lots of stuff, you can sit and look at it in your hangar, but you won't have the skills to fly it, to use the gear. Only time (training skills) allows that.
All you can do with unlimited ISK is to buy lots of whatever you CAN fly, and go suicide ganking with it, over and over again, but it won't get you anywhere, but to be marked as a griefer. (and a pathetic one too)
It would make you look smarter, if you knew the game you are commenting on
I do find it interesting, the people who like to have an EmoRageQuit on game forums.
If I get bored of a game and it no longer provides the interest/entertainment that I want, then I stop playing and have Zero interest in reading or posting on any forums concerning the game. I mean, I'm not interested in it any more!
It makes me think that something happened to these people that they couldn't handle. In the case of Eve, they probably lost some officer fitted faction ship that they'd saved up all their ISKies for since the beginning to then discover that they weren't so WFTBBQPWN as they thought....
You're correct that CCP's Game Time Cards (GTC) are a form of Real Money Trade (RMT). But CCP's way is a controlled way with limited extend of RMT. In closing, Way to go, CCP, you are doing a great job entertaining me, and I appreciate the swift actions against the cheaters - and don't bother listening to the whiners out there.
EVE - For life.
RMT= Real Money Trading
Hence this is NOT a RMT game at all.
Yeah right, being able to buy anything in the game with unlimited isk doesn't help advance your character?
Now your starting to sound like Smedley.
Ahhh.... the beauty of Eve
It doesn't change the fact that I refuse to play a MMOG where any form of RMT is allowed. All forms of RMT should be discouraged by developers and violaters should be banned.
Samurai, your signature image destroys any respect I might have for anything you post....darkfall....what a joker you are!
