Is it worth trying

IvansteinIvanstein Member Posts: 3

Just looking for an honest opinion of the game.  I am pretty sick of the current flavor of the month games.  I miss DAoC when it was actually hard to play, and getting to 50 had all your friends up late at night working for that set of epic armor.  I hear a lot about bots, but every game has them, so I discount that a bit.

If the game is worth while, is there a chance at a trial key somewhere on the vast plain of the internet?  I am not begging for a key, if one can't be had legitmately. I just don't rightly want to sink another andy jackson into a game that won't be fun in three days.

The game is definitely worth trying.  Especially now since there are so many newbie benefits, the academy, common items, free teleports until 40.  The game has never been easier to get into and it's my favorite of all time.  The art work is unique, the gameplay is unique, and it's a challenge.

That being said, its a HUGE grind (although much better then it used to be), and there is RMT everywhere.  NCSoft has put forth a lot of effort to make the game more legit recently, but I dont think it ever will be 100% legit.

Let me know if you plan on playing on Bartz.

Lineage 2 is the best MMO if you want something that is more of a challenge than the current crop of mmos

such as Wow,War, LOTR, etc....most of those games are almost the same.

L2 is much more of a grind than the above games, takes alot of planning & work to get ahead, but you also get a much better feeling of accomplishment than you ever will in a game like WoW, where everything is just handed to you.

     I am on Devienne Server.

Great game, not like the rest, expect some long term gameplay with substance, seems this is the game everyone plays when they really want to play an mmorpg, nice graphic as well.

    Hope this helps.

I play on Bartz and Aria

    Let me offer a rebuttal.

Lineage 2 is the biggest grind ever period.

You could max our a characer in EQ, WOW, and DAOC all three before you would hit max level in Lineage 2.

Lineage 2 has bots everywhere, Chinese farmers everywhere.

If your ok with that, and like to grind then this would be a good choice.

Hello there!  Well ive played daoc for 7 years and a bit of WAR and came to Lineage 2. They made the leveling alot easier with the recent updates. I would recommend the game to you.  Far as bots, well they are still there, but first 20lvls Ive only seen 4. Dunno about the later towns etc.  If you do choose to play and want a lvling/pvping buddy, look me up on phoenix..rhyoin

not really a rebuttal since I said everything you said.  Even if you accept the grind, RMT, and bots, its still many people's favorite game

Best MMO on the market. Nothing like a Open World MMO where you are not forced to do anything. I say try it. You can get the Anniversery Edition for $19.99. It comes with 60 Days of play and a really cool Black Mask. I am on Phoenix server.

I've also been looking to play this game, and I need an honest opinion.  Is it conceivable to get into this game and get to higher-end gameplay?  I know this is an old game and probably not alot of lowbies around.  Also, how is the english-speaking community on the servers? (helpful/mature/nonexistant/ etc)

If you dont like waiting you can buy the serial code form the plaync store.  Just get the serial code and 1 month free instead of the 2 month free buying retail.  Either way, its been pretty fun since i started a few days ago. Im on Phoenix server as well, so if you join there, give me a pm

I can only give you my experience and im only lvl 18 so far.  With the recent patches and expansion (gracia) they've made leveling much easier. Started yesterday and almost 20, which in the past would probably taken longer I can only assume. Plus you get newbie buffs till I think 50ish?

This game does have a learning curve, ie controls, ui, but it does give you some feeling of accomplishment which I havent felt since the early days of daoc.  I joined up on Phoenix server and only encounter about 4 bots and few helpful people.  The newbie area isnt very populated at all, but people say when you get to dion and up, its very populated.  Which doesnt take long to get 20. If either choose to join, I would make a new character and we could group up.  Hit me up here with a pm and can go from there.

very fun game, rewarding, and the feeling of accomplishment!

Quick write-up for levels 1 to 61+ (note this does NOT talk about working the market and assumes that you do not purchase adena with a credit card)

If you talk to the Newbie Guide in any starting town, he/she will start you on a series of quests that will walk you through levels 1-18 in an hour or so.

At lv18, do your 1st class change quest which will take you from 18-20.

After you've changed to your second class, go to Giran and buy top common D grade items from the NPC shops. Also at this point you should start buying and spamming DSS (or DBSPS if you're a nuker) from other players. And you will continue to purchase and spam soulshots and blessed spiritshots for your entire L2 career.

Next, grind from 20 to 31. Where to grind:

If you're a nuker, go kill mobs outside of Cruma Tower (port from Dion), or if you want to try something more risky (and rewarding), kill the 1/2 HP mobs at Field of Silence down by Heine (careful the Lizardman spear chuckers hurt).

If you're melee (or archer, in which case you should use a dagger until 40), sign up for 7signs (sign up at Priest of Dawn, NOT DUSK) and go to Necropolis of Sacrifice south of Gludin, going deeper and deeper to higher level mobs from 20-31 (move to Heretics east of Dion if the mobs are too low). If it's not 7signs sign-up week, go to Forgotten Temple (again, south of Gludin) until you either hit 31 or 7signs sign-up week starts (every other week).

If you're a healer, I'm not sure. Maybe learn Disrupt Undead and go to Execution Grounds to kill Spectres, Neer Ghouls, etc.

At 31, start doing lv36 Kamaloka until 35. Grind too, but do 36 Kama at least once a day.

At 35 start your 2nd class change quests (there are 3 total, one at 35, 37 and 39), mix up Kama and CCQs until you're 40.

At 40, buy C-grade. Go to Giran to buy equipment. If you're broke, buy common items. If you can afford it, buy armor sets because the set bonuses are worth it.

Mages should go with Karmian set for the +15% cast speed bonus (Karmian Tunic/Stockings/Gloves).

Any fighter that gets light armor mastery should learn it and buy Plated Leather set for the +4 STR bonus (which is awesome because it only has -1 CON penalty).

If you're a tank (or SWS/BD), buy common Full Plate.

All classes should buy top C-grade common jewelry.

For weapons, fighters should just go with common items. Nukers if you can afford it, get a Sword of Homunculus and put the Acumen Special Ability on it (talk to a Blacksmith NPC to learn more). Healers, if you don't plan on using Inquisitor stance to level, get a Mysterious Sword and put Acumen SA on it (it's cheaper than Homu and the low matk doesn't matter cuz you heal, not nuke).

Next grind to 41 (7signs if melee, mobs outside Oren/HV/Aden if ranged), then go to Heine and start doing lv46 Kamaloka until 52 (mix it up with grinding of course, but make sure to do Kama at least once a day).

After 51 (B-grade @52), Kama doesn't seem to be as rewarding. Melee chars can always go to a 7signs dungeon (can't beat XP/AA there). Nukers/archers have to go find non-dungeon mobs that drop herbs (try Cemetary or Valley of Saints i guess).

As for gear, again I say fighters go with common. Blue Wolf heavy is excellent for heavy armor users if you can afford it. Nukers/Healers should go with Avadon set (can be purchased with crystals at the Giran Luxory shop). Nukers should go with a Sword of Valhalla + Acumen SA.

At 61 you can use A-grade, and will probably experience sticker shock when you start shopping for a new weapon and set of armor. Go with common if you can't afford the real items (which you probably can't).

    But if you can,

Heavy: Majestic > Tallum > Nightmare > Dark Crystal
Light: Majestic > Dark Crystal > Nightmare > Tallum
Robes: Dark Crystal > Tallum > Majestic > Nightmare

This is debatable, of course. For PVE-only chars, Tallum heavy is probably better than Majestic heavy. Also for PVE-only, Dark Crystal light is probably better than Majestic light. For nukers, Dark Crystal robes are the only option. For healers, Dark Crystal robes, Tallum robes or Majestic robes will all do fine (PVE and PVP).

After that you're on your own. Grind grind grind. 76 = S-grade. GL

    Depends on what you want.

If you want to do alot of pvp & be competitive, then id say NO.

But if you want to play more of a pve style & just lvl up your toons, join a chan & have fun, then sure, go ahead and give it a try.
