Hey everybody, I am a new member, but this isn't about me.  This upcoming Christmas I'm buying a gaming PC (M17 Alienware laptop) so I can get an awesome MMORPG.

Here's the thing:

I've never played a PC game ever, ever.

You all have absolutely no idea how excited I am to be able to play a PC game (I've heard they're really popular), because I'm an avid gamer.

I play mostly First-Person Shooters on my Xbox 360, so I'm definitely not getting any shooters for my laptop.

I was looking at a choice of 3 games, possibly 4.  I just wanted some feedback of each of the games, since this website is called MMORPG.COM (I thought to myself: Who'd know more about PC gaming then those at MMORPG.COM?).

Here are the games I had in mind:

  1. World of Warcraft
  2. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
  3. Guild Wars
  4. (Age of Conan) <--- Definitely not a guaranteed buy...I've heard dicey reviews.

* * * And if anybody is wondering, I'm 14-years of age, and I  love gaming * * *

Completely new to MMORPGs! On Christmas day, I'll Warhammer Online! ^^

Honestly I think you would like both Warhammer and WoW.

I'm not sure what the starting areas are like in WoW, but with the amount of people that play the game I am sure you'll find plenty of people to group with.

WAR is an easy game to get into and with the scenarios you can jump into PvP right away and get a feel for what character you want to play.

To me WAR got boring after a while, and I didn't play WoW because I didn't like the style of the game, but they are both pretty decent games to get started in MMOs with.

Guild Wars for the no monthly fee :)

If you could tell us what your looking for in a game that would help us as well.

Hey, most welcome to this site and the community! :) Cool to have you on board! ^^

So, my personal advice for your would be to start with World of Warcraft. I havent played it long, but as you say you have little experience with such stuff, WOW takes you by the hands and shows you most things. It has to my experience an alright community of all ages, is the most versatile MMO and especially well for a MMO beginner.

You may find enough MMO veterans who dont like WOW, but dont let that bother you. For a beginner WOW is a very good way to start, especially when you have no experience. With WOW you will be on the most save side, you will always have stuff to do, a wide variety of things, classes, characters while Warhammer and Age of Conan are more specialised. Its a matter of taste, but I am sure its the best way to start your MMORPG career. You may change to more specialized MMOs in the farther future, when you have more experience.

May your new pathway on PC and MMO gaming always be joyful, friend. ^^

I voted WoW, but don't overlook AoC.

Most of the nasty reviews are from those who had bad experiences at launch. From what I hear a lot has been cleaned up.

If you got money to burn on Alienware crap then I suggest you figure out what you want to play and buy the parts and make your own pc, however assuming you want a gaming laptop then I don't know how else to get it.

The individual parts that make up an Alienware comp are a lot cheeper.  You could make an equally good computer for I'd say a third less.  Alienware is overpriced.  You end up paying more for the name then anything else.  I suggest you look around and compare prices before jumping in with your eyes closed.  This is to say that you're not hell bend on getting an Alienware computer just because "OMG IT'S ALIENWARE"!!!!!

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    Totally agree.

Not only is it cheaper to build a better PC but you learn alot about how they work at the same time.

I'd agree on building your own comp :D its pretty fun, but back to the question :D I would say get WoW because it is a easy to learn MMO with 4 years of polish :D

welcome to the forums.  if i were you i would get either wow or warhammer. both are pretty easy to pick up and if you pick the right server they can both be fun. look around on the internet to see what server is right for you. as for your laptop i would suggest you look around a little more before you settle down on the alienware. im sure you can get the same laptop for a little cheaper (alienware's are usually pretty expensive). i would suggest telling us what kind of mmo you would want so we could help you a little better. oh and i personally think fps's are better on a pc and im sure many ppl would agree. you can aim so much more accuratly and the games take more skill to play (counter strike) since they dont help you auto aim.

Not everybody is capable of building a PC and getting everything just right. While Alienware is overpriced from a hardware standpoint, what you're really paying for is support (if that support is good or not is up for deabte).

If you build your own PC and something goes poof, than tough luck, no technical support for you.
