Why does this game always suck me back in! No matter how many times I quit and swear I am NEVER going back something happens and I suddenly get the urge to return.... *sigh* Please MMO Gods, free me from the crack that is World of Warcraft!!!!

my advice is to switch up your gameplay now and then. The times I've stopped playing was after I'd focused on one area for too long (usually pvp).
I think that is one of the reasons I like Acheivements so much. When I find myself doing heroics or pvp too much, I'll stop and run through the acheievements and see if there is something fun I can play with.
I also try the free months of other games. Playing Warhammer and AOC for a month will certainly have you running back to WOW very quickly.
Well, maybe a question can help you look at this differently...
Do you actually miss playing the game, or do you miss people and friends that play this game? (That's my reason for keeping a dual access of WOW and WAR going personally)
here are a few things you can do. break your computer or lock yourself out of your house. how about going to the mall or a club? meet some new people and do everything they want to do.
My main reason to keep playing Wow is:
- whenever I am getting the urge to play another MMORPG: I do it ... and this is the best motivator to keep playing WOW. Each time I get a skin disease when I see those other pathetic attempts in MMORPG-land.
- the game adepts itself to what you like and thus offers even ... more choices according to your changing moods.
Probably for the same two reasons I return occasionally:
1) The game is very polished (i.e., no clunky movement or awkward controls)
2) The game is heavily populated
Other games with better foundations unfortunately do not have WOW's polish or population. And even the population benefit comes largely from having a simple polished game that will run on any system. I would hope devs would place "polish" at number 1 in future MMO designs.
When I was playing I found it was the players I played with that made me feel like playing again after quitting.
I don't think it ever was the game itself.(well i did like epics, it was mostly friends though)
Once my friends moved to Eve or stopped playing MMOs in general I never went back to WoW.
The one thing I like about WoW that it was a very casual friendly social game. I basically used it as a graphical chat room to talk to my buddies. Sure we had a good time raiding or running pre-made BG's but the things that really held me to WoW were the retarded moments on vent.
Alot of those guys/gals moved to Eve now but Eve is a much more serious type of game so Its not as laid back. Isnt the same type of conversation as it was back in WoW.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Well, it is the friends and stuff... because I've been back for about 2 weeks now and I am bored again.... didn't take long but bleach, good game I think I just need more traditional MMO gameplay.... or something completely different....
