Which server is more populated?

GrrlGrrl Member UncommonPosts: 354

I can't never tell because most cities I wander, it usually looks empty. I'm new to the game and I'm loving it so far. It's a bit challenging due to the fact I'm used to fantasy mmo's and less UI complicated, heh. Currently on Starsider.. and I'm not sure if that server is best for my gameplay and socialization.

What's your suggestion?

Edit: I am on trial.

Really? o.O Does any towns matter really or is there a location that most people go to?

The most heavily populated servers (according to the GCW officer listings someone posted here last week) are Bloodfin then Bria.

You have to understand that when people say a server is "Packed" for SWG, it won't mean packed as in any other MMO, it will mean that there is more people there than other servers. I don't think  you are going to find substantial populations on any of the servers. I know on my trip back for the free trial there were exactly  5 people on the entire server that I could find and 4 were AFK.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Interesting. I'm surprised it's not "packed" per se.. cuz I do find this game quite an experience so why isn't there a lot of people on it these days?

Thanks Darwa. I guess I picked out Starsider cuz Star's my name. Ah ;me being biased.

Basically, there aren't alot of people on compared to how it used to be is that over 3 years ago SOE made some huge changes known as the NGE and alianated most of the player base. Since then the game has made huge strides and is actually fun to play.  However, alot of those that left due to the NGE are still upset and nothing SOE can do to bring them back and there is still a lot  of negative word of mouth from these players.

I would suggest for you to keep up with your current server as it is one of the destination servers for the free character transfers that SOE will be offering begining in Januarary. You should see an increase in players from this.

Also, If you have not done so, Look into joining a guild or meet new people on the official SOE forums for Starsider.  http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/forums/show.m?forum_id=12

It used to be packed. It isn't packed any more because the game used to be undescribibly better than it is now. 3 years ago, in mine and many other's eyes, the game was destroyed by SOE with the implementation of their "New Game Enhancment" or NGE. The short story of it is they removed about 23 classes, introduced a horrific combat system, cranked up the speed to crack addict levels, and many other things. The drastic and game destroying changes were announced 2 days after an expansion(which so many of us pre-ordered and paid for) was released, was only tested for two weeks, and then forced upon the player base despite massive protests and it being in an incomplete buggy state.  While SOE has re-introduced dumbed down versions of features removed by the NGE, the game is still no where near as complex, deep, or as fun as it once was.

Many people, myself included, refuse to give another cent to the horrible company that is SOE.

OP what region are you in?   EU or US

    high population EU = Chimaera

    high population US = Starsider

I've re-subbed myself to the game after 2 years away and apart from decay still missing am finding the game fun again even after the NGE. I've been on Kauri for many years (dead server now that averages 50 people a day) but i've spoke with almost everyone on the server and 80% of them are heading to EU-Chimaera when the free character transfers are sorted. January 13th till March 31st 2009 for characters created before 10th December 2008.

A previous poster to me was correct that being in a guild makes a big difference, you get good community spirit as well as help and other things. I've been with my current guild for going on 4.5 - 5 years now sinse i first started playing the game, the thing i remember the most is the welcome me and my friend recieved, we got armour made for us and decent weapons as well as weapons for later when we could use them and plenty of resourses given too for our crafting characters. we also got invited to various group events and shown the ropes of major parts of the game. these days my friend has been made Guild leader and i'm regarded as a high rank within the guild. there is no substitute for a good guild m8..

If you're on Starsider, you're on one of the most populated. The top servers are Bria, Bloodfin, Chilastra, Ahazi, Flurry and Euro Chimeara.

Here's a screenie of the server loads last night at 10pm EST:

Thats a good screenshot for US servers m8, problem is that 10pm EST is about 3am for UK and between 3am and 4am for rest of Europe, a time when the European servers such as Chimaera will be low population as majority of players will be asleep.

Here's a screenshot taken at 5pm UK time. Link

This shows the server populations just before the start of European Prime time but at about 12pm Lunch time US timezone.
