Btw I'm a confirmed Lotro Addict , been playing it solidly since release and never get bored there is always something to do and plenty ogf Adventure to had , also the community is the best you will ever find anywhere.
It's okay. Kind of a lonely game though, with so few people playing and those that do being so quiet. At least they aren't obnoxious, though, like in some games (Guild Wars for instance)
If you felt World of Warcraft PvE was fun with lots of Quests (Lord of the Rings: Online has about 1/6 of the Quests of World of Warcraft according to Allakhazam), Instances, Reputation to gain with various Factions and so on, Lord of the Rings: Online is the same.
There is an identical overall questline (called the Epic Quest) in Lord of the Rings: Online that will be identical for all Characters of all Classes and Races.
Combat is very slow and feels stunted and stiff if you're used to the more action-oriented World of Warcraft or the higher level play of for instance EverQuest2 or City of Heroes/Villains. There are no really available tactics since you fight all battles the same way. This is not necessarily a bad point, it is just a difference compared to the game you mentioned. Since all Characters from the same Class is also very identical (there is no Talents equivalent in Lord of the Rings: Online) it maximizes the feeling of all groups being equal unless you deliberately go for an unorthodox Class line-up.
The gameworld is very small compared to the gameworld in World of Warcraft. According to Allakhazam and IGN network sites, the available landmass that your Character can walk on (ie discounting sheer mountains and areas barred off by invisible barriers) in Lord of the Rings: Online is roughly 1/20th of the landmass in World of Warcraft (flying is not included, only landmass you can reach on foot is taken into account). So it is easier to see all there is to see in Lord of the Rings: Online.
Crafting is identical. The number of available professions are fewer but the mechanics are the same.
So it all depends on your definition of fun. I know that if you're European there is a free trial available that you can fire up to see for yourself.
nitefly ... did you actually try all SOA instances or Moria?

Only time i felt same after finishing Epic Book Volume 1 was when i finished Mafia. Great storytelling Turbine and hope Volume 2 will be of same quality.
Lol nitefly you truly are retarded, wow has been out for how many years?
You meet many ex wow players in lotro and all say the same thing, this game has nice quests. Then again they might all be wrong and you who clearly hasnt played lotro for more than 20mins might be right. Then again scientology might be right.
And i can tell you that there arent so few people playing atm, every town is full of people in moria. ANd the old towns are still quite alive.
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
I found LOTRO to be very boring. Don't care for the classes nor the combat. The questing is NOT any better than that of WoW, so if that is your draw, you might want to pass. Not a solo friendly game. Most of the good rewards and interesting quest line, read Epic, require grouping. Something to keep in mind since you're coming from WoW.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
and you "people" talking moria this and that....he isn't going to get there day 1! (it might take 2-3 with how easy the leveling is). million reviews already out there, sure it looks nice..but this game is soooo boring compared to just about anything else on the market you will feel like a fruit for logging in.

We can talk this and that for about any game out there. I find Sims and Second life boring, yet there are many players that find them ok.
Trials and demos are very helpfull to see if you like the game or not. Not comments without any viable arguments.
You can lvl to max without grouping in SOA. Even Moria is now more solo friendly. But grouping is nice thats why I play mmorpgs. Or else I would stay playing HL, The Witcher or similar.
The thing is though, the group quests often give you a lot better gear than solo quests. So if you don't do them, you're missing out on some pretty decent stuff (better than I can make).
It is weird how they are MMORPGs, but so few people like to group. I wonder why they like playing them, other than being able to brag about their characters to others...
This game has a ton of group quests, but they are very hard to find groups for.

Since the OP stated he was coming from World of Warcraft, making comparisons to World of Warcraft seems rather obvious. I don't get the totally over-the-top fanboism that these niche games generate so that everybody that doesn't feel like them are automatically idiots (or in your case, retarded) and somehow feel they have to stand up for their game in every situation.
Why not write about what you find fun in the game, since that's what the OP was asking?
Lord of the Rings: Online is a very small game, it has barely half the number of subscribers that EvE Online can boast and less than even EverQuest1 (and EverQuest2 if you're wondering). It is comparable to City of Heroes in number of subscribers.
My guess is that the game feels crowded simply because it is so small compared to most other MMOs. The only other game that has such a small available gameworld landmass in the AAA bracket is Age of Conan. A game that has been out for less time than Lord of the Rings: Online.
Defenately big enough to get your attention nitefly.
But Turbine should invest more in PR and marketing. That game lacks bigger promotion and that can be seen in lower number of MOM reviews (only 4 on Gamerankings).
Heh heh, lots of trolls in this thread! As far as fun goes, that's a matter of personal taste. What's fun for me may not be fun for you. That being said, I love LOTRO, and I expect to be playing this game for a long time. WoW was fun for a while, but I got increasingly bored and recently quit, even after buying the xpac. I stuck around because my friends and family were still playing, but I just couldn't take it any more. And some of them are thinking about leaving too. Other people love WoW, and who am I to tell them not to enjoy it? One thing I *won't* be doing is trolling WoW forums telling people not to play that game!

Well, as I said fun is something that depends on your definition.
I will however say that a post clearly stating that and then go into detail about what X person thought were pros and cons while taking into consideration the OP's mention of World of Warcraft is more useful than simple and unsubstantiated nay-saying.
If you think it is fun, list the things you find that are fun. Take a hint from the OP and go ahead with all the content that makes you have a good time, entices you to come back and makes you gladly pay your monthly subscription or maybe invoked you to take up a lifetime subscription.

I was a huge blizzard/Warcraft fan once... then I played WoW and was very dissapointed so I left it and then started playing LotrO instead..
Now 1.5 years later I still play LotrO almost every day and think its anything but boring and for me its a much better game than WoW or any of the other MMOs I have tried.
How come there are so many WoW fans in the LotrO forum lately?
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Eh so WoW is a niche game? Seems like WoW have the most rabid fans on theese forums (not counting Darkfall) Why not write about what you find fun in the game, since that's what the OP was asking? I like the classes, The amount of detail, the story and lore, the combat system (alot more interesting than WoW combat IMO), conjunctions, music system, outfits, housing, the story instances, the mature community, Moria, legendary items, Ettenmoors. The casual friendly end-game raids and dungeons, the trait system (far superior to talent trees now) Lord of the Rings: Online is a very small game, it has barely half the number of subscribers that EvE Online can boast and less than even EverQuest1 (and EverQuest2 if you're wondering). It is comparable to City of Heroes in number of subscribers. Do you have any source at all? No didnt think so... If we look a xfire stats we can see that EVE and LotrO are preyy simillar and that LotrO have alot more players than EQ 1/2. LotrO probably have around 400k-500k subs worldwide. Comparable to CoH?? lol My guess is that the game feels crowded simply because it is so small compared to most other MMOs. The only other game that has such a small available gameworld landmass in the AAA bracket is Age of Conan. A game that has been out for less time than Lord of the Rings: Online.
Its pretty clear you played the game at released and now are basing your opinion on what it was like 1.5 years ago. To me the world felt alot more free and open than WoWs.

No, Lord of the Rings: Online is a niche game in the genre that is MMOs.

According to the fiscal statements of the companies. By dividing average subscriber cost, you can find approximate number of subscribers. Turbine is a publically listed company. It is not so exact that you can claim to have a precise number but enough to show tendencies. By doing a bit of browsing I also found that MMOGChart has numbers that are not so far from what I stated although I don't know what they base their numbers on. I'm aware there is a dark horse in the calculation, ie the lifetime subscribers that would only show up in year one of their fiscal statements but I was not able to find any information as to how many lifetime subscribers are currently active.

I have not included your list of what you find fun. I cannot dispute that, that's your oppinion and common sense implies that for me to say you don't find those facets fun is ridiculous.
I did not, or to be more precise, I didn't find the combined features available in Lord of the Rings: Online to be more fun or equally fun as the combined elements available in other MMOs. The biggest letdown for me was, and still is, the Traits. Yes, I'm aware they changed the system in Mines of Moria, no I do not think it adds anything of interest nor value to the game. It is a patch incorporated badly into a system that was very unimaginative to begin with if you want my honest oppinion. Changes sometimes work (Achievements added to EverQuest2 made the game better) and sometimes they don't (NGE was propably not the most popular move in Star Wars: Galaxies) and sometimes they leaves everything the same (Lord of the Rings: Online Traits change or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes re-vamp).
For me the game is not important, but the features are. Viewed from a sufficient distance, all MMOs are the same, and the distance needed for the major fantasy MMOs (World of Warcraft, EverQuest2, Lord of the Rings: Online, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning) to seem more identical than different, is even less. The preference is to be found in the little details.

Unless you like a slower pace, lots of lore, well written quest lines...you probably won't like it.
That being said, it's the best PVE mmo I've played. But it's not for those with a short attention span.
YMMV.
