I didn't see this in the forums yet, so for those who haven't heard...
Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away this morning, December 18, 2008, at 12:27 AM in her Bel Air home. She died peacefully in her sleep of leukemia and was surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 76.
Though she wasn't in Stargate, the sci-fi era she and her husband helped build made it possible.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

I started a thread in the Star Trek Online forums thinking that more appropriate for Ms. Roddenberry but I'm glad you also started one as well. It's a sad day indeed for the Grand Dame of Star Trek has left us.
The legacy has truly ended.
R.I.P. Majel, and say "Hi" to Gene for us.
Also today, Mark Felt, aka Deepthroat died at the age of 95. And yesterday, Slingin' Sammy Baugh, who many consider to be the greatest quarterback in NFL history, died. He was 94.
The first lady of Star Trek has passed on, she will be missed
Here is a very good tribute to Majel that I found on Ain't It Cool News.

wow. that is so sad. The mother of Counselor Troi, the computer voice of the Enterprise. She had so many talents.
Say "hi" to Gene for me!
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
She will be missed! Sigh, as a former treky I can't help but feel like the one connection to the great legacy of her and her husband is over. My deepest regards will go to her family. We actually knew her... Sigh.
Star Trek is a legacy that will never end and will be with us through the ages of time forever. The series literally has changed the world, and has inspired and shaped much of the technology we see in the 20th century and will continue to see in the countless future. Far more importantly, Star Trek inspires and celebrates humanity, it reminds us who we are, it inspired an entire world "to boldly go where no man has gone before", and as long as there is humanity there will be a place for Star Trek.
I believe this is the Roddenberry's legacy and it will stay with us forever.
