DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE TRIAL VERISON - FIXED (FALSE ALARM)

Headup - i downloaded the trial verison to test the game out.  Guess what, there a hidden virus in it when you execute it.  Thank God for Avast - Do not download the trial verison.  I cannot believe a game company QA department allows this.

I asume it might have to do with anti-cheat programs.

I have not installed it myself nor you saying what the name of the 'virus' is.

And if they're put more effort MMORPG.com can create a 'Team Sceptic'

    lol

Not only does it mess with your CAPSLOCK key, it makes you paranoid!

Seriously though, it isn't infected (unless you obtained it through a non-recognised method). Avast sees the program doing something that isn't recognised by its definitions and gives the warning as a precaution. It's called heuristic analysis, and it isn't infallible

I written it down at home.. I used Avast which is running all the time - never had any issues with downloading trial clients of any game before where Avast pop up and stop the file.  Anytime that happen, I automatically hit click and delete on their program.  But I will get you the name of the virus - it was  a malicous "h" something virus

Download it directly from the game company website.

This I did not know.. thank you Darwa for this.. now I know its nothing serious and it an error.   I am leery when I download things, especially when it come to virus, since I had major problem with them in the past.    thanks

Blkjag, you were right to question the file. If we can't have any faith in the programs that are designed to protect us, then what can we have faith in? Generally speaking, the only people that know about these false readings are those that use pirated programs and those that work in the software industry. I wonder which that troll was

Just to make certain, I download the file from the Acclaim site (your profile says you're in the US, so I presume that's the version you downloaded) and checked it out for you. It's safe

    Hope you enjoy the game.

    Thanks Darwa

    I already reported the troll.

It great to know there are great, mature, respectful and helpful people like you on this forum.   Thanks for this great answer and the validification of the file.

I can see how it might raise alarms, because this actually wasn't in the original release, it only came in when they updated the patcher itself since I guess they added some changes to GameGuard. But everyone else is right, it's a false alarm. I use avast as well, but I wasn't particularly bothered by it because I knew prior that they used GameGuard and I know that the way it functions is picked up by antivirus software as a trojan or backdoor many times.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Yeah, Avast is good but certainly will cath some things as "faluse-positives".

It one time suddenl;y poped up saying that a file with WoW was a Virus. Turned out it was false-postive -- several people had the problem; they sent info to Avast and got he definition files updated. About a week later - the same thing happened again.
