I roughly have around 35 fps everywhere including cities and my ping ranges greatly with my best being a ping of 125.  Even when it is running slowly the game is still playable unlike some other mmos where I can't have anything downloading in the background or else I will keep rubberbanding in place.

So I have some lag but it still works fine for me.

I seen a little lagg but nothing that doesn't happen in most game when they just open up the open beta.

This is just the thing you make an open beta for, the closed beta never had so many players in it that it lagged, not even on the stresstest.

My experience is that Logar, Varanas, and the Obsidian Stronghold (or Citadel, or Bastion, or whatever the latest patch calls it) cause terrible lag. I have not had serious lag problems anywhere else, not even in Harf when the new quests came out and the town was packed with players.

I get a lot of lag when ever i'm in a populated area.

I know of some people (English) who i believe play on the USA server and have no lag, so maybe that better rather than EU server.

In runes of magic at   the start box goto settings turn them way down press apply.  And from what you say yes the hardware sounds like it is part of the lag not the network.  Even i get a bit of network lag in town on the NA server not much but a little bit.

  • I have occasional town lag and it's usually in spurts, not constantly.

I get occasional lag spikes, sometimes in town, sometimes not, but nothing consistantly.

I was just logged in. The lag in Harf was unreal. I do know these guys are writing some leaky software. This is the only game I have ever played that gave me virtual memory warnings; EVER. In the past I have completely uninstalled the game and went through an hour or so reloading the endless patches and that improved the lag/leak problem; at least until the next couple patches came along. The game is clearly not worth that kind of trouble. I'm east coast, my friend is west coast, we have the same unbelievable lag problems. I don't have any such problems on any other game.

That's funny. I never get any lag, except for occasional spikes i populated areas like Logar, and I've never had a virtual memory error (ever) in RoM.  Weird...

It is odd. I know a lot of ppl have lag problems, but some don't at all. As I say, I have never had leak problems with any other game of any sort. At first I thought my PC was messed up, but noticed it only occurred when I was playing ROM. The other oddity was reinstall and repatch fixed it for a day or so. Although I'm no fan of the game, it would be good for them to get to the bottom of such issues for those who do like it. I'm sure the software is leaky, a sure sign of marginal programming, but for some with perhaps a great ping it doesn't seem to hurt.

  • There are definite memory leaks.  Nothing the programmers can't fix eventually I'm sure.  I wouldn't go so far as to say it was marginal programming since they're common in games like this (WoW had very nasty memory leaks after certain patches).

If your lag is only happening in congested areas (like Harf) it's probably either insufficient hardware, bad drivers, or something running in the background (virus scanner, anti-spyware, etc).  Otherwise you'd be getting lag anywhere in game.

If you're getting virtual memory errors, try increasing the size of your paging file.  I did this on my wife's computer and her's stopped completely.  I noticed the memory footprint of RoM is very large, especially if you have all your settings turned up, so along with the memory leaks it's going to use up a lot of virtual memory.

Automatic restarts are bad and could indicate a hardware problem (overheating, for example).  Sounds like you need to do some troubleshooting.
