Nube Info: First Death in 0.0

redpawredpaw Member Posts: 9

This is purely for info to other noobs about what happened to me in my first trip into low-sec...

OK, firstly, this was my first encounter with low sec, 0.0 and death. Obviously there is no way for me to say it was typical... just my first experience of it...

Went wandering in my starter ship to find out what happens when you  go into low-sec space and get killed. I reckoned it was better to experience it on my terms rather that be 'scared' of it.  Firstly, it seemed really difficult... took ages to get to 0.0 space (through various low-sec areas) and then had to go jump even deeper into it. Every jump... nobody there (or couldn't see anybody anyway). Anybody that did come through gates after me did not hang about - just immediately went into warp somewhere else.  Note, I was not looking for NPC pirate spawns in asteroid belts, I was waiting for other character to attack me.

Compared to the high sec areas, local comms was devoid of discussion. Sometimes I was the only ship listed (on right hand side of comms window). So if you are fed up of reading x-factor type garbage and other crap in the hi sec local area, head off to low sec - it was like sitting on a river bank watching the stream go by (except, unlike Sun Tzu, I had no enemies' bodies to wait for).

So about an hour of this later, I thought I should try another area so started heading back through the gates to it; all manual (no auto-pilot). 1 gate later, I saw a couple of player chars on the scanner (or whatever that thing on the right hand side is called). They displayed as totally 'normal' ships, no red or amber background to them to indicate I should be concerned. I saw no indication from the ships on that list that there was any threat but then a warning popped up in-screen that I had been hit by someone. While I was trying to ascertain who had hit me... like 3 seconds later... I was looking at my own shuttle floating in space. And just as I was thinking to myself... shit, that looks like my shuttle...  I reappeared in my home station (or whatever it is called) and received an unnecessarily (I thought :-) 'amusing' message from my tutorial 'mistress' who then wanted to explain podding to me and the benefit of having an up-to-date clone.

So...

INFORMATION 101...

Actually, I was quite glad my shuttle got killed as well, since I had seen other shuttles passing me on my trip to 0.0... looked really boring... shuttles must be really slow!  Maybe the fact that I was seeing shuttles come through the gates and I was going in the opposite direction should have pre-warned me!

When your shuttle gets killed you automatically reappear in your original 'home' station. I don't know if this can be changed to something more 'convenient'.

Since I had no other ships available to me at that location I  was automatically given another starter ship with only the basic equipment fitted. So... Lesson 1, always leave something to re-equip with at whatever station that is (presuming you do not have cash to buy anything). Note: to make the replacement ship active, select Ships from left hand window, right-click the ship and 'Make Active'.

Lesson 2. If you are going to go wandering like I did, don't take anything along in your hold that you do not want to lose. I only had some ammo (not that I got a chance to use it).

Lesson 3. Don't presume you will get a warning. I had no idea who or what was about to kill me. Apart from the 'information' box that popped up there was nothing that I saw that gave me any prior notice of attack (or of my subsequent demise).

Lesson 4. To find out what DID kill you, look in your Character Sheet-> Combat Log-> Losses. Mine showed...

Involved parties:

Name: Dream Fist (laid the final blow)

Security: 0.9

Corp: Brotherhood of Musketeers

Alliance: R.I.S.K

Faction: NONE

Ship: Zealot

Weapon: Heavy Pulse Laser II

Damage Done: 434

Destroyed items:

Shield Recharger I

Nuclear S, Qty: 337 (Cargo)

Nuclear S, Qty: 170

125mm Gatling AutoCannon I

Dropped items:

250mm Light Artillery Cannon I

Damage Control I

...which, frankly, I think was a bit of overkill!  Hopefully cost him more to recharge than he got from me :-)

Lesson 4. Death is painless. Or in my case (and more lyrical), Suicide Is Painless (since I had gone looking for it).... [that was for all you other oldies that remember M.A.S.H]

Lesson 5. ...and this was the important one for me... any skills currently in training continue on as before. To be honest I thought that maybe there should be more of a repercussion to dying. OK, I had no implants etc, and I was not carrying anything of value because I was expecting to be killed but I thought that maybe all currently 'in training' skills might have to start again. Not so.

However, do check that your current clone will cover you for your existing skill points. Go into the Medical area (right hand screen thingy) and check the current coverage for retaining your skill points. After 3 days I already wanted to upgrade to the Alpha model.

So...

MY SUBSEQUENT NUBE ADVICE FOR NUBES...

1. Check your Clone status and ensure it covers you for your skill points.

2. I have not yet gone to a 'real' frigate (my next step) but if you have, ensure you have the Platinum insurance cover (I think I have that right).

3. Go out into 0.0 at least once and just keep travelling until something kills you - just to get over the initial fear of it. But... don't even bother taking guns and ammo with you

that thing that you call "shuttle" is a capsule / pod / egg
shuttle is a different ship (look on market)
just to let this things clear

    edit:
in 0.0 low sec dont need to be red player(-10) anyone can/will kill you

    3) press ctrl+f11(scanner) and use directional scanning when you are on warp set this at 30º-40º and look strait(press ALT to see your ship symbol is like a square on centre of your ship will help you to aim the camera strait) to the gate/point where you warp so you know if there will be any ppl before you get there
on your overview setting ->column select TYPE

    BestSigEver :P
