LFG: f2p w/ life skills

wong1628wong1628 Member Posts: 16

Yeah, i know, how ironic is that, an mmorpg with 'life skills' .  Ok, back to the subject.

So I had the urge to give mabinogi a try once again.  The first time i tried it, altough it was fun, the rebirth option really tied me down and pushed me away.  I'll admit it: i may not be able to pay for p2p (credit card), but am at least mature enough to not bash the game n00bishly.

The second time i tried it, after reading some of the forum post on how to create reasonable char without paying for rebirths, the rebirth thing stopped urking me.  However, something still didn't seem right as i played the game.  That's when it hit me.  The problem isn't that rebirths are cheap tricks which nexon uses to rake in the dough, but rather its that the life skills system is critically tied into the combat-lvling system.  This makes it impossible to lvl up life skills w/o sacrificing combat skills, which are then needed for getting life skills.

And so here comes my question to all those mmorpg experts:  What is a game of decent gfx, good sized player base, nice community, but most importaintly, interesting life skills (music/cooking/constructing) that can be lvled seperately.

I know this is a hard question...but i finally have that mmorpg spark again.  TYVM.

P.S.

not runescape, not mabinogi, ryzom has bad population size.  Oh yeah, second life, i tried that, several times. it was ok, but for some reason i had horrible lag? ( with dsl/cable) and that phone thing during acc creation doesnt cover virgin mobile.

Runes of Magic is your best bet at the moment especially if you want an MMO with lots of people around. For crafting they offer carpentry, blacksmithing, armor crafting, alchemy, tailoring, and cooking for professions. For gathering they offer herbalism, woodcutting and mining. A little more information can be found on their site HERE. Since the game is still in open beta and has lots of bugs to be fixed so if you're impatient I wouldn't suggest it.

If you're looking for more of a sandbox type of game check out Wurm Online. It has a lot of skills and I don't want to list them all so check out their wiki site which can be found HERE. As for the population I really have no idea, but it's been out for two years.

Yeah the wow-imitator does seem very good for a f2p.  Although I've heard many in game problems about crashes and the lack of helpful GM's, it's still OB, i think...

However, there seems to be a problem with people,

    1. Downlowding the mammoth of a installer

    2. Getting bad sites for downloading said mammoth of an installer, so they have bad coding in the game, so they crash

Does anybody know if torrenting it is possible, cause the only way i seem to be able to dl it is thru gamershell but that wont let me pause or piece-dl it.  There are german sites, but i'm worried that i'll get a german vers of the game....

The torrent is listed under this thread: Open Beta Client ready for download on Gamershell.com

Yes, it is still in OB and the only crash I have personally experienced has been when someone threw a snowball at me. I crashed each time they did it and yes there a lots of bugs and issues that need to be fixed which is why it's in open beta and there's a suggestions & feedback forum.

Hmm, thepiratebay.  Good memories.  Ran into some problems w/ isp before. Hehe.

Is this site reliable, as in does it give me bad dl or is flagged by gov't as...well..err...pirate site for all dl's (legal or illegal and then giving me hard time)?

Don't worry about being flagged for pirating, you are only downloading a freeware thing. Aslong you keep it that way you have no thing to worry about (even though they aren't the sharpest at tracking for starters)

The game is F2P so I don't see any problems with illegal issues. However that site does offer downloads for games it shouldn't. Unless you have a reliable antivirus program I would stick to the download site I suggested under the thread I linked you as I know for a fact there weren't any problems with it.

Downloading isn't what they get you for, it's seeding/uploading. Anyway, Wurm online is a MMO-Real-Life Simulator with levels.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

Why not Runescape? It's probably the closest thing to Mabinogi.  You might like Eternal Lands or Dream of Mirror Online which actually had some decent crafting/skills for an Asian grind game.
