There doesn't seem to be any discussion regarding playable races. So anyway, from what we've seen in screenshots and videos we've so far got Humans, Togruta, Wookies, Kel Dor, and Twi'leks. But keep in mind for the last four, I personally think they are playable, but there's always chance that they're NPC races. Just a precaution because I don't like giving false hope.
Personally, I think all races from SWG (Except Ithorians) should definitely return for TOR. Then I think Togruta, Shistavanens, Nautolans, Kel Dors, and Cereans would also make for good choices. I'm sure there's some other good choices out there, but it's late and I can't think very well. But overall, I'm hoping the developers will go for a good-sized number of races and add more in future expansions (I don't understand why SOE never did that with SWG).

i hope they limit the races. I loved Star Wars as much as anyone but some of the races as seen in the movies were just Stupid looking. If the race didnt have a speaking role in any of the movies then they shouldnt be playable IMO
I just hope they never consider adding Gungans to the game. Seeing Jar jar Binks all over again could give me nightmares.
I want to be a battle droid.
How about a Toydarian trader or a Hutt gangster?
(joking, by the way, I'm not crazy about such stereotypes.. I'd much rather play a Force-sensitive trader ar a Toydarian Jedi)
who cares what gives you nightmares.....
the only funny parts that could go well in the S.F atmosphere were the gungans.
not that i like comedy put in a S.F. movie/game/book but if they have to do it to reach a wider crowd.. sure gungans are fine.
I could actually see them giving us more racial options than class options, based on a multitude on things. For one, you have to realize that Bioware is making this game, and they take character uniqueness seriously in their games. Second, the SWs franchise has an extreme large palette of races to choose from. And thirdly, the SWs followers are demanding; you can be sure to bet that Bioware would add as many classes as pleasible to their crowd to avoid the inevitable whining that is to come, or at least reduce it.
I expect at least 10 playable races, if not as many as 20. Not really because I in particular want to play a lot of different races, but it makes a lot of sense that they would and is probably a decent guess.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
As many races as they can create for us. Now, do we want them to just be skinned different or to be different in fun ways, such as having wings and flying? Getting rid of racials is nice, but if I want to play a battle droid with 4 arms, should I be able to put a gun in each hand?
You can't go wrong with any Star Wars race. The more the better, as far as I'm concerned - just means more lore to play with.
Bring on the Gungans, I don't care.

RACIST PIG!!!!!!!
lmao
i would love to be a trandoshan again, loved it in swg, and maybe i could re-experience my old story from swg ;-)
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Why do people call it "race"? It's wrong, it's called species. "race" and "species" are two very different things. A race is a sub-category in a species. Dogs are a species with various races, cats are a species with various races just like humans are a species with various races.
Why do so many people, TV shows, magazines etc use the term wrong?

I want the Kushiban... basically 50cm big intelligent rabbits which change the color of their fur to show their emotions. And than be a Sith and kick ass... as an rabbit.
Because we all know it and this is casual communication with relaxed rules.
Just an idea here, what if you couldn't pick you race in this game? Like it was a random roll? like in life.
mandolorians.
pure and simple they should be a playable race but cannot be a jedi.
I hope they let u be a Trandoshan slaver ... I just want to fly my ship all day selling slave twileks and wookies... and ocasionaly donate some money to the Sith to fund their "Murder anoying Jedi campaign"
jawa, nuff said.
Why no design your own race from a big set of choices like in City of Heroes - or as they plan for Star Trek Online, as I hear? You either select a handfull of premade, classic races, or you design your own race. Star Wars is a big galaxy after all.

Lol... terrible. ONE random roll aka RL is pretty much all I can handle.
Really, whenever I was dungeon master in my pen and paper games, I always allowed people to tailor their hero as they wanted. People must like their alter egos, or they will not play long or play it really dedicated. Tho I feel you were likely more kidding.

lol yeah, but what if? lol
"You have rolled: Wookiee"
*slams mouse down*
"That's it, I quit"
Seriously, no way in hell I would pay a stinkin Wook.
Though I agree, a lot of the sapient species in the Star Wars universe are pretty stupid and ugly looking (Ithorians FTL), there's plenty of decent-looking races that don't have speaking parts in the films.
Except Mandolorians are not a race, they're are a culture/faction of a bunch of different races and as they conquer planets they assilmate other races to their cause.
The Star Wars Universe is one of diversity and (for the most part) acceptance no matter your appearance.
Taking away that diversity by limiting the species would defeat the purpose of making a Star Wars game. More Races/Species = More Diversity = Star Wars
In my opinion, Bioware needs to add as many races and species as humanly possible before release.
