LF a new game, ex eve player

LordSkaalLordSkaal Member Posts: 35

So after five year's of playing EVE i finally decided to try something new!

You have probably read a million of these thread's with people asking for advice on where is best to head so here is another for you

I like a game with a good community and pref has both crafting and pvp..

Would be nice that once you reach a certain level there is plenty of others to join in on whats going on rather then solo.. might as well of stook to the XBOX if wanted to solo hehe.

Ive got a new PC so no problems running any games.. i was tempted to try AoC or WAR..

Any advice would be most welcomed and thank you for your time

I have a few questions for you before I suggest a game. Do you want crafting to be easy or difficult? Do you want the game to be mostly PvP or PvE oriented? Would you prefer F2P or P2P?

Runescape or Darkfall when it comes out.

  • LordSkaalLordSkaal Member Posts: 35

Thank you both for the replies.

With crafting i would prefer it to be harder thus having a more sense of achievment in doing so. For example in SWG pre the nerf it was great people were selling items in there home made shops.. that is a moment ill never forget.

With crafting or pvp.. Im not too fused which is more as long as there is plenty of people around and things going on that mean something..

What i hope to find in the MMO i find is that when i chat in the game its not replied by some one just trying to make them self look cool and acutally have a chat.. help each other out and plenty of teamwork in the guild/game.

Very much like to work with others to make things happen like ive said before.. and not too botherd about having to pay monlthy..

The game you want to try is Vanguard.

    Seradon server..

Don't bother with the PvP servers because they are too low population. The game has the most in-depth crafting system I've seen and the community is great. Have fun exploring the world, it's seamless and large.

The only gripe I have is that the game doesn't last forever.. though I've been giving serious thought to jumping back in. They are giving away a free month and then some (Til Jan 31st)  to players whose accounts have been inactive for more than 45 days. Shamefully, my account has only been inactive 30 days...

There is a free trial, so give it a shot, you can't lose.

Guild Wars would most likely hit yout PvP spot. However, the crafting is virtually non existant. And by non-exsitant I mean you can't craft anything. You take mats to a crafter and you exchange them for armor/weapons.

However, you wont find a game with more PvE/PvP for the money. Which is very minimal at this time.

I looked at Guild wars but since its been out for some while.. i was thinking it would be better to wait till GW2? What do you think.

And with the PVP.. im not 100% sure how it works there.. is it open area pvp or team vs team instanced ?

    Thanks mate

It is not open world pvp. Each zone is basically an instance and there are towns which players can interact with eachother and group up in. I have never found a more boring experience than guild wars.

Some of the most active and friendly communities I have found in F2P games have been in Atlantica Online and Runes of Magic. You will get the occasional dumb butt, but as you get higher in level you see it less. Crafting in both of them isn't challenging in my opinion and the pvp is there. In AO the pvp is done in an arena duel type of system and in RoM there is open pvp. Of course since RoM recently released into open beta there's a lot of bugs that need to be fixed. More on RoM's pvp system can be found HERE.

Since you're primarily looking for a crafting MMO check out this thread: Best crafting in an MMO? However I am unable to coment on the current population of the games mentioned. Generally if you look on a specific games forums you will find threads asking which is the most populated.

Thank you very much for your time on that, i will take a look at both links.

If you were considering pvp into the frail, where would you suggest ? RoM sounds intersting as its in beta.. Always nice to join in from the start.

What do you mean "into the frail"? Do you mean which one has the smallest/weakest amount of pvp?

    Ahh sorry for the confusion

I meant, what MMO would you recomend that does include a good level of pvp also?

Maybe because i used to play eve.. im used to a complex game.. but im certain i can find a new land for me some where

Once it's all fixed up I would imagine Runes of Magic to offer the best pvp on a pvp server.

  • LordSkaalLordSkaal Member Posts: 35

Looks an intersting game, Never tried a F2P game before.

    Thanks for the info mate

Come over to the GW forum and ask for a trial key. I'm out but I'm sure someone else should have a extra lying around. It is possible you'll find instancing boring or you can be like a lot of us and find yourself enjoying your own area to explore without anyone bothering you.

You may decide to just wait to GW2 but I still think the game is worth a try at the least.

The PvP isn't your typical PvP but you can jump right into. The game was based around it's PvP, but the PvE content is supurb imo.

WAR is really fun, especially the PvP but the crafting is lacking... I mean it is horribly lacking ANYTHING. The items you craft are usually worth squat... if that.

LOTRO has a pretty awesome crafting system, although it's not as in-depth as SWGs. It is still a really nice system and is balanced with GREAT PvE and the PvP is there and very much wholesome and full, although definitely not the basis of the game.

Ryzom has a killer crafting system, the PvP is there and balanced and the PvE is nice. It's pretty much a sandbox game.

I agree on these games, but with LotR the pvp is definitely different and I am unsure if the OP is looking for something like that. More on its pvp can be found HERE. As for Ryzom that would be my number one suggestion if it had a good sized population, but from what I have read it's somewhat empty. I could be wrong though.

Community wise I say CoH Virtue server has the best community you can find. The people are pretty nice and the ratio of asshats to decent people is one of the best. PvP is pretty non-existant. Crafting is rudementary at best. But at least with the good community it is easy to find people to chat with and get along with while you are doing the repetitive quests.

I go back to it every once in a while when I am bored with everything else.

Well if you're looking for the amazing crafting and the sand box feel that EvE has, I'd say the closest you're gonna get is Runescape, Darkfall, Wurm Online, Eternal Lands, Darkfall.

If you want a good structured MMO like RoM but with meaningful crafting I'd suggest Everquest II, which by the way has some decent PvP as well.
