Well since i didnt see this anywere around here i though i should post a heads up for the items mall in this game.
Basically the item mall so far didnt have any game breaking stuff(up to 16th of december) but that changed with the patch on that day and i'm gonna explain why.
In atlantica online the highest piece of armor/weapon grade that you can obtain is +10, wich can be achived several ways:
1- use of Enchant stone. Enchant stones require a sacrificial item of the same type a grade in order to get an item of a higher grade(2 items of +2 grade need 3 enchant stones and combined give a +3 item of the same type) overall enchanting requires 1024 items of the same type starting from +0 to get a +10 item
2- use of Enhance stones. Enhance stones do not requiere a sacrificial item in order to get the next grade but every time you enhance you have a chance to completly break the item(to enhance a +4 item you need 5 enhance stones). If the item breaks then it disapears completly from your inventory, you need 10 consecutive enhanced to make a +10 item.
and now the "i win button"

3- Oriharukon enhance stones(only available in item mall). This brand new item dosent require sacrificial items and all items over grade 1 will not break. If you fail to enhance an item with these stones the item downgrades by 1(from +7 to +6, from +4 to +3 etc) and you get lucky points. If you fail multiple times then your lucky points increase until you manage to succesfully enhance an item.
Now many of you might wonder why this is game breaking. It's gamebreaking because by having just 1 item you can get that item to +10 w/o using other items of the same grade or to have it completly disapear from your inventory. The high level gear drops are very rare and random(its practically impossible to make a +10 item just from equipment drops as each box can give more than 12 different items) and enhancing the items will in most cases break them(having a +7 item break is frustrating to say the least)
edit: :O this game made me post the first message on this website although i have the account for a few years.
Marry Xmas!

Even though Atlantica is a free to play MMO, I still hate item shops, and if this horrible trend continues among MMOs, it will be my que to leave this genre for a long time, and stop giving money to the greedy scumbags that have taken over.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
personally im waiting for diablo and starcraft now, diablo 2 and the original starcraft kept me busy for some good years, if these turn out to be junk like most games this year then im gonna start playing tetris
In PvE it will have a huge effect, but in PvP weapons are toned down alot. +10 is equal to about a +3 or +4 in PvP. I don't think they're really that great. I mean the non-breaking thing is great, but the difference at endgame between 1 or 2 levels of your items won't make or break you.
I dont think its gamebreaking at all either....Convenient? yes.....but you have to realize that they have to sell something in the item mall or the game will go under.......I mean if every f2p offered nothing worthwhile in the item mall why would anyone ever be tempted to buy?? Like a previous poster said it doesnt really affect pvp and if it makes their pve easier thats fine........Id rather have carrots for the item mall and play for free than pay 15 bucks a month.......You can always say no.
but you can play the game without even buying anything so what's the problem with that man?

that's right.. i'm level 104 now and i havent spent any money for this game.. it is up to the player if he wants to buy something or not.. you can still enjoy the game without buying.. and just don't be stupid so you wont be scammed by someone..
oh i forgot.. i spent some money buying Coke while playing

I am not a Blizzard fan by any means,i consider them trash, the "HASBRO" of gaming.
So by telling you that i actually think Starcraft might turn out ok,you know i mean it.They are putting the effort into it's looks so that right there is a step up.
I played this Atlantica,i was really impressed at first, but after one week i was extremely bored and realized it was just the "NEW FACTOR" that was leading me on.Item mall games will NEVER work,i realize they have to generate income for their efforts,i mean nobody works for free. The problem is that Item mall games are designed so bad, well not for them but, they are designed to cost you far more than any regular membership would cost. That is because they need the people that pay to make up for the high% of free loaders.
You mention this item mall upgrade for boosting weapons, that is just ONE item ,imagine doing it for several items, the game knows you will want to upgrade again over the next couple levels, how much is this costing?I have found over many F2P games that their cost ratio is about one week equivalent to one month of a normal sub.SO it would cost you $60 a month instead of 15 to play the game the way it was intended. It can be far more than that when they use "timed" items, because they usually run out in one hour,so if your NORMAL play time is longer than an hour you can double/triple that 60.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Or you can boost the item to that level without buying anything from the item mall. I think that's the key point about this.
You dont NEED the items in there to compete. They are there for people who don't want to farm, but for the rest of us willing -- we are still on par with the item mall shoppers.
Once they start putting items in there like actual gear that is better than anything in game that you would actually HAVE TO BUY to be on par with everyone else -- I will agree with you, but not until then.
It always comes to F2P mmo, always.
I WIN items always come, remember when you start F2P game, they always come.
Well, I'll be waiting then.
There are enough people that play this game for them not to even have to sell stuff like that. I am hardly ever in an area where there aren't other people running around.
I really hope they don't spoil it. I know if they did put items in there like the other item mall games, I would probably have to call it quits.
I have faith that they will do the right thing. Haven't been let down yet, so with any luck it will stay that way.
Famous last words huh? LOL
Most likely would be the opposite, they would NEED to sell a lot of store items if the game had a high population to support the playerbase with basic maintenance.
More people playing means they need more money to run it. and since theres no basic sub fee they are going to need to come out with high demand store items.
To put it another way, if WoW was suddenly F2P, they would need to have a store PACKED with high demand items just about EVERYONE would want to buy or they couldn't afford to run the servers for all those players.
There are two major plusses of item mall for players:
1) It allows fair wealth redistribution. (You can play for as much as you can afford providing someone is supporting the freeloaders and they do get something for their contribution. It is more fair in sense to buy mount from mall then paying for WoW and never doing 25man raid you paid for.)
2) It allows difficulty scaling. (If you find the game too challenging, you can buy powergaming supplies like scrolls of armageddon. Or you can go for maximum challenge.)
The downfall is, like the downfall of communism, it all depends on people being saints. As we are just humans, people will try to abuse mall to gain advantage over fellow players and the publisher will take advantage of those abusers. They will also try to finish off the less contributing members of society to maxmize profits. The dream goes down in flames spiralling right into F2P hell.
AO had great start, then took a bend in course moments ago but is not there yet.
