See how silly your post is?
You my friend have a lot to learn about marketing and real world.

Turns out, that I am not your friend, sorry.

Didn't think of anything to say so you came up with this clever comeback? Wow, you sir win this thread.

    About the original post..

My only problem with Conan movie is who are they going to cast as Conan? Schwarzenegger was perfect for the role but I just don't see any current actors pulling it off. This means they are going to have to use an unknown to play Conan which is always risky.

Then again Schwarzenegger was also unknown at the time..

This is not bad news. It's some of the best that could happen to the movie. It is absolutely crucial to involve the community to get a good fantacy film (in the league of Lord of the Rings). I hope they choose Peter Jackson to do this movie.

The big issue as I see it is that Paradox lacks imagination.

Paradox went through a change a few years ago from a small enthusiastic Games Developer to a more corporate type entity.

It wasn't a good change IMHO.

Looking at Paradox's track record on games... they basically made a living off the Europa Universalis (Sp?) engine and ever since have just been doing remakes.

The one attempt they had at going outside that was Diplomacy.  The Gamespy review says it all.

I really hope that they don't meddle here and just sit back and leave it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Well, me too. Hope Lionsgate are given full producer rights and that Peter Jackson will direct. Also hope that FC will do some of the special effect animations.

Wtf? Am I reading this correctly? Are you saying it's CRUCIAL for the producers of the movie to involve the Age of Conan MMO community in making of this movie?!! It's cruzial to involve a hundred gaming nerds with zero movie making experience?!! Crucial?!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

That must be the dumbest thing I have ever read on ANY forum.

I'm praying for Crom, Set and all the other Gods that the producers won't let any AoC people or fanbois even near the script or the set. If they do, it will be automatic fail.

I'm sorry to say but Conan film will NEVER be "in the league of Lord of the Rings". LOTRO is an epic trilogy with an epic story. All Conan film can be is a good movie.

They need a big budget, good director, good script and a charismatic actor to play Conan. All these things might be difficult to obtain. As a fan of both movies and Conan the barbarian I do hope they pull it off.

I pray that FC is kept thousands of miles away from anything about this movie.

What a train wreck of a movie it would be if FC took any role in it at all. Who wants a movie that won't work properly on the equipment available at the theatres, or a movie that wasn't complete until 8 months after release?

I agree, FC might try to promise DX10 in the movie and features from the game will be seen only in the movie as well.

The last I read, Peter jackson is becoming a Producer, and Del toro is directing the Hobbit. So you guys are pretty much crap out of luck , and i bet Uwe Bolle will be directing this lol.

I know, but it would have been fantastic to get a passionate fantasy guy like Peter involved. I just fear that Cona will be anoththe right er Holiwood blockbuster 95 min movie. I hope they can make it to something as fundamental as the Lord of the Rings triology. The lore and literature is certainly there IF they only get the right people involved it might happen. Any interaction with the AoC fan crowd and the community is of great importance here.

That you think LOTR is epic and that Conan isn't shows your lack of exposure to the stories of Robert E Howard.

Howard's stories could be used individually to make many films spanning the lifetime of this Epic Character.

Without Howard and Conan LOTR is not even something that happens.  Howard and his stories in the 1930s helped give birth to the whole idea of fantasy being something people would buy.

And compare the number of books publised about Conan and Hyboria and compare them to the number of books about LOTR and the Middle Earth and you'll find the Tolkien side rather lacking.

I'm sorry, but as far as the subject matter is concerned you are very, very wrong. Conan is as epic as you can get. It just is a different type of fantasy. I highly suggest you do your homework on this one.

However, one caveat I'll give you is that I'm not impressed with the director if x-men is any indication. So you might have a point there. But as far as the world of Conan? It's extremely well done and very epic.

Yeah, maybe I used the word "epic" in a wrong way.

What I meant was that LOTR is a much "bigger" story than Conan stories. LOTR is like a huge battle between good and evil and involves the whole Middle Earth and everyone living there. Stories like this make good fantasy movies.

Conan stories are much "smaller" and usually only revolve around Conan. I like these "small" stories but the general public doesn't. They want big battles and special effects.

I've actually read all the Conan books and I'm a big fan but there isn't any Conan stories that would make such a huge impact on the movie screen like LOTR did.

The amount of Conan and LOTR stories published is irrelevant here. There are more Donald Duck stories published than Conan and LOTR put together but I still wouldn't call Donald Duck epic

Bottom line is that I think Conan movie will fail. I mean, how can an actor play Conan after what Arnold did and be convincing? Impossible.

That is a good point. The LOTRO stories do center on many characters whereas the Conan stories are all about him. There are some other characters but mostly on him.

Again, I'm not all that convinced by their choice of director so I'm not holding my breath.

The only way to get this movie done right and to conan lore, is togo for a rated X .

It doesn't really have to be x rated or NC-17, it could be a strong R rating, but it would definitely need to follow the lore though.  It couldn't just be some bloody, sexy flick, it would need real depth behind it.  They need to make this a big budget movie with top notch actors, but preferably none of the A class actors, they should get some new guy with real talent.  That would be cool.

    PLAYING: NOTHING!!!
PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM

    WAITING FOR: Dust 514

The problem is, where do you get one of those?

He should look the part, be big and athletic, but also be able to act and have charisma. There are maybe a handful of people like that on the PLANET.

And whoever he is, he's always going to be second to Arnold and a lot of people will skip the movie because they don't want to see a "fake Arnold" as Conan.

The movie is already doomed. Just look at who they picked as a director.

I highly doubt it will be a cgi film. they want to consult Funcom because they have been studying the entire world for years. Why have their own people start off from scratch? it's a smart decisioin.

As far as the idea that it would have to be x-rated, Of course not! The original Conan was NOT ex-rated.

Actually it would be a really dumb decision.

People at Funcom know NOTHING about making a multi-million-dollar movie. Why on EARTH would the producers consult someone like that?

Screenwriters already have tons of Conan books. The material is there and that's all they need. You think it would benefit the movie if they hired Gaute or EE to consult? HAHAHAHAAA

Gaute: "Ok, in this scene Conan attacks the evil priest with a combo 1, 3 ,2"

    Screenwriter: "Um.. what?"

Gaute: "Then Conan does a fatality and loots him!"

    Screenwriter: "..."

Erling Ellingsen: "We need a massive pvp battle in DX10!"

    You are not understanding.

They are not asking Funcom to make a movie with them from what I'm seeing. They are using Funcom's extensive knowledge behind the Art design and lore in order to help them make a movie. If you think about it, Funcom is one of the few organizations who have extensively thought about, studied and implemented some sort of Large Conan property.

It IS a smart decsion. Otherwise they have to spend time doing all that research when there is already a plethora of it already out there.

Fredrik: Frank has influenced a generation of fans and every director I met always brought up his art in their pitches. The world is so much more than that though, and I think Funcom did a fantastic job in Age of Conan. I am doing everything in my power to involve their art director, Didrik Tollefsen, into the film project because I think the six years of thought he and his team put into the visuals really pop on the screen. In fact, I talked with the WETA Workshop guys and showed his stuff and they said it was on par with what they do.
