Casinos or arcades , why not?

Im pritty sure there isnt any mmorpgs that have casions or something like it , i know everquest has a dice but i think that was it. It would be awesome if a mmorpg had a casino or like a pub where you could play poker , black jack all that kinda stuff. One of my favorites things about ff7 was the goldsaucer ::::20:: there had so many awesome mini games and other cool things , i wish they would have more of that kinda stuff in single player rpgs and mmorpgs. Of course some might say that it would ruin immersion but not if it was a pub where you could play poker and what not and gamble your gold , it would be cool and more immersive imo. For a sci-fi game they could do something like the gold saucer with mini arcade games it would awesome. They could make it so that you hada pay a small fee to play the game and then if you won it would be the equivelant of money you would get from killing a monster and the amount of time it would take or maybe a little longer and you could get some exp , and the way they would do it to balance the exp is that whatever level you are you get acsess to certain games , this would also make it so that your not just grinding for ur next level , skill or item but also to look forward to more fun mini games ::::31:: Of course a arcade wouldnt really work with a fantasy game but it would be sweet with a sci-fi imo , but for fantasy since there wouldnt be a arcade you could play poker or something in the pub not just against players but also npcs for money and a bit of exp against npcs.

Well...just an idea ::::38:: I think it would be sweet though if some games incorperated a thing like final fantasy 7s goldsaucer ::::20::

I have been saying this for years....

Something like this would bring another level of enjoyment to the game. Many people have said that MMORPG's are just glorified chat rooms, and if that is the case, then so be it. Log in, play some poker, and chat with your friends who are out hunting MOBs.

Something like a blackjack table where you joined in and played against the house is easily doable in any MMORPG. And organized poker tables where you played against other players could be done as well.

Problem is that people sell the in game money on eBay, so you enter the realm of "Is this gambling or not?". Then the game designers have to worry about whether the gov't is going to step in and slap some hands...

Just to let you know... Star Wars Galaxies does have 2 mini games for gambling. You can waste alot of credits playing them. Lol its even more fun when 2 or more players are using the same machine and you get talk trash to each other depending on who won or lost.

I hope to see a game that incorporates a full size casino/acrade though. Would real fun to play poker against other players, especially if you could cheat! When you are accused of cheating you get to take the argument out into the street and have a good old brawl about the money!

There are b ig big risks for a MMORPG that implements gambleing, some of which are legal.

In-game items have real-world value, you gamble with them and you can lose RL money...Is this really gambleing or is it still a game? A lot of places don't want to take the risk of being sued.

Also gambleing is a 'bad' activity. It increases the ESRB rateing, restricting the number of stores it can be sold in. SWG may be able to buy it's rateing, but a lot of little games can't. In some countries any form of gambleing in a game gets it banned. Much like child-killing.

You'll notice that virtually every game out there these days makes killing a child impossible. Not hard,  they make them invunerable....Because they want to be able to sell their game in Germany. Gambleing has overtones similar.

The Sims Online had blackjack I believe, I remember reading about that on the test server page when I stopped playing. Might have more now.

Yeah the Sims Online has player-made casinos. A few different kinds of slot machines, roullette, and when I left they said they were coming out with blackjack, poker, etc.

There is a trial to TSO if you wanna try it.. have to go the "city hall" forums at www.thesimsonline.com .. it can actually be pretty fun

oh and you need a CC.
