Yeah, some of those magazine "awards" look like they only apply to games released in 2008, kind of limits the contenders there. The IP one is also a limited contender one. So it is kind of like braggin that you came in first in the single-man race.

Awards = Advertisements.
No WAR is the best *NEW* mmo, not the best mmo.
Brokeback Mountain won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and was honored with Best Picture and Best Director accolades from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Golden Globe Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Independent Spirit Awards among many other organizations and festivals. Brokeback Mountain had the most nominations (eight) for the 78th Academy Awards, where it won three: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. The film was widely considered to be a front runner for the Academy Award for Best Picture, but lost to Crash. At the end of its theatrical run, Brokeback Mountain ranked eighth among the highest-grossing romantic dramas of all time.
Brokeback Mountain won all these awards, most nominations for Academy Awards and plenty people say it was the best movie of all time. Do you believe this too, Greyhooff?
Just because critics say something is the best, doesn't mean that there are people who say otherwise and vice versa. Taste is subjective, awards and accolades are meaningless.
If someone is likely to be swayed by your list, they are probably pretty weak-minded to begin with.
Play what you like, ignore the others.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Forgot the 2008 part in the title, which severely lessens the worth of the title but still nice to get awards naturally.
That said, it's definitely not being reflected in sales which is probably what the company would prefer.
Winning a 2008 new MMO of the year award is like being crowned king of the dorks (picture Anthony Michael Hall in sixteen candles). They should retitled it as "best of what was available" instead of penning awards for a category that was anything but award worthy for many years now.
Defo best MMO of 2008
not sure about ever, theres too many contendors
agree with some here, I think they are only voting for games that were released in 2008 because it seems like the world "new" is thrown out a lot on those awards, not literally just seems that way....
WAR is in trouble right now, and EA is shaking their heads.....what to do what to do...
Some where in EA's office is the big red button, and it will only take some shaky numbers for them
to hit it then the lights go out...don't be surprised if by the end of this year, that happens after alll
it's EA
Winning awards for MMOs in 2008 is like winning "Shiniest turd in the pot".
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
This is all that needs to be said when talking about the gaming industry. This site included.
Brokeback Mountain wasn't that bad of a movie. Did you see it? It was really good actually.
It had some good cinematography, music, acting, story. I think that's what the critics are all looking for.

</OBAMA>
You all remember Asheron's Call 2? That I recall, it won game of the year in at least 2 of the gaming magazines that I subscribed to at the time.
I don't put much faith in awards, just how fun the game is to me . . .
Anyone who gives any credance to "professional" reviewers when it comes to MMOs should really really stop.
Didn't AoC teach people anything? Same thing happened there. Ooooooooooooo Tortage you get a 9/10. Best game Evar! Me smart pro reviewer har har.
I agree best "NEW" mmo. But look what they had to pick from.. pffft.
Only because everything else was pretty bad but I guess you have to promote something ?
But everyone on this site says WAR failz.
On a side note, I can imagine the OP.
"Hrmm now let's see when they makin da choppa, or maybe I could convert to Stunty and roll a hammerer WOT'S DIS?? All the awards that WAR won in one convinient list?? Woot!"
Nah just kiddin. But not really.
Good games are the ones that stay on the radar long after the initial burst of ads, unlike AoC that died out quite rapidly despite all the winning and whatnot WAR seems to actually hang in there...we'll see how it goes in a few months time
well WoW is on the list as well so it does include older games
one example of one of those award rankings (this one for best overall game of 2008, all categories)

An entirely new game beat out expansion content, hold the presses!
Glad to see Fallout 3 is in it's rightful place (more opinion )
AoC is the best MMO. Everybody knows that. WAR's bleeding players like a massacre while AoC are gaining subs bigtime.
Hey aren't you that Funcom shill?
If not, nice joke.
O_o o_O
Who cares really been voted best of the year doesn't =games sales or subs.
As much as I like playing WAR, I must agree with the above comment.
I absolutely loathe fake awards & marketing spin that assumes all consumers are idiots.
