I asked about new skeleton models and armor models and some one mentioned EQ3......is that going to happen? There is a lot of good in EQ2 and with some of the other concepts AND new armor models, that game would be good! As it stands now, the only games coming up are Darkfall, GW2 and Aion. Aion's PvP is bad for me as it rewards those who play nonstop and with no jobs. DF looks really good as does GW2. I like the animal looking races in both games but DF seems to have more of what I am looking for in a skill based system. Anyway, any word on an EQ3?

I could be wrong here but I'd imagine SoE has enough trouble keeping the games they do have afloat. Also, when you overdo something, more often than not it becomes pretty bad. I never got the idea of a "sequel" MMO when the original MMO is never s'posed to end (content-wise, patches, expansions, what have you). Unless you wanted to make a totally seperate MMO with the same lore based in a different time period or something of that lore, that's understandable. Still though...
True, I know that SOE would never call the game EQ3 and perhaps another name. It would/could still be incorporate all the good things from EQ2 and Vanguard....minus the bugs.
I'm a relatively new player, about six months now, but I want to chime in on this one. Why would they want to make an EQ3? The graphics engine in EQ2 is good if you have a decent gaming computer it runs as well as most MMOs and it is definately full of good eye-candy. I have to give props to the developers on one thing, the character models movement is awesome, the people aren't "stiff" or "fake" looking like in most MMOs. OK, getting off on a tangent. In any case, after six months, I am level 57, have done two hundred and some quests and never, not one time, not had something to do. I have yet to explore most of Sinking Sands, The Overreleam, Kurnack or the new areas from the last expansion. I'm guessing another year to explore those well. Then I will start an alt in a different starter city, of a different race and start the story from that side of the backstory. The current story is moving well and is definatly interesting if you take the time to investigate it.
As for the bugs mentioned...I have found only one, Sony is in the process of fixing it. That's far less than any of the other MMOs I have played. This game has polish.
In other words, why would they need to make an EQ3? They would have to start over with content, backstory and "here we go again" with all the startup bugs. It would pull some of the player base from EQ and EQ2 and spread it further. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I love EQ lore, I think it is the best of any MMO out there.
I wish SoE will stop designing stupid stuff like The Agency and DC Online and focused more on the core MMO player.
I will welcome an EQ3, which in my view could be the game that could redeem SoE from all the bad shit it accumulated in the past 5 years.
The way I see it, EQ3 should be less hardcore than Vanguard but not so casual like EQ2
If SoE will make EQ3, it should be designed by Brad Mcquaid or Richard Garriot (I know they made mistakes but they have the talent).
Also SoE has to promise in writing that they will never add any RMT system in the game.
And finally they need to promise they will never chance the core of the game (see NGE for SWG and ROK for EQ2)
EQ3 made right is the only game which could make me go back to SoE, and from a SoE hater is a pretty bold statement.
How did RoK change the core of EQ2?? Only real change from previous expansions was that you could level much faster by doing solo quests than by grinding zones. I can't thing of another major change.
It changed the game from EQ2 to WOW 1.5, some people didn't noticed because they like the game more casual (like you), some people noticed it and left because of it (like me).
It is not as obvious as NGE where they chanced almost everything, but ROK shifted the gameplay from Group focused to Solo focused, which to me is a core change since it changed the audience target, like NGE did for SWG in a more drastic way.
if you were around and playing when eq2 launched and realized how completely awesome it was from the start, then no i do not see any eq3 action for a long while. HOWEVER. the way things run today am i really as a gamer one to judge on what a gaming corp. is about to do? hellz naw. but i wouldnt hold my breath.
That's exactly my point, which current EQ2 fanboys do not understand.
EQ2 was a great game the first 6 months after launch, before SoE started turning it into WoW.
A real shame.
SoE is the only developer I know which goes backward...........go and figure.
ROK did not change the core EQ2 experience, it added to it. There are some that post here about the no group content solo only EQ2 game play in ROK. Bologna, those that continuely post this nonsense do not play EQ2 or have not done the many, many group/raid instances. There is more then enough group and raid content in EQ2 to keep you busy for years. Here are some from ROK, the expansion some claim killed group/raid play in EQ2.
Chardok (Group Dungeon)
Prison (Group Instance)
Overking (Raid)
Karnor's Castle (Group Dungeon)
Pawbuster (Raid)
Queen's Lair (Raid)
Sebilis (Group Dungeon)
Crypt (Group Instance)
Crypt (Raid)
Venril (Raid)
Charasis North (Group Instance)
Charasis South (Group Instance)
Chelsith (Group Instance)
Chelsith (Raid Instance)
Veeshan's Peak (Raid Instance)
Trakanon (Raid Instance)
TSO the latest expansion is all about group play. There are more than 20 goal-based dungeons, such as Ruins of Guk and Befallen. Now I can continue and list all the group/raid content in EQ2 but I just listed ROK since it was mentioned. There are some who tear EQ2 and SOE apart any chance they get. They say how much they love EQ2, and they are doing us all a great service, but would love to see it dead in the water. If they loved EQ2 so much they would try to promote it and keep the game we love alive. They claim how they are helping people by telling the the "truth" about the evil SOE and EQ2.
EQ2 is about choices that means both group/raid and solo content. They offer tons of content for both hardcore and casual play in EQ2. EQ2 has eased up things like death penelties and made a few tough mobs soloable over the years. I think this was a good direction to make the game more accessible to more players but it is still a group game. Sure you can solo to the level cap, something you can do in most mmorpgs. If you do you miss out on tons of content and gear, that is your choice.
The naysayer's easy out is EQ2 was changed to be WOW. That is the most ridiculous statement about EQ2. EQ2 is nothing like WOW other then similarities of the genre. (There is some truth to that statement in regards to SWG/NGE however EQ2 is not SWG) That is why I have been playing both WOW and EQ2 since release. They offer different game experiences. Thanks SOE for giving me choices on how I can enjoy my entertainment time in EQ2. EQ2 has gotten better over the years. It is a rich detailed world to explore in many different ways.
If you think EQ2 has been dumbed down and made easier over the years, you may be right. HOWEVER, come to some of the new 20 something dungeons in TSO. These dungeons are some of the most brutal dungeons I've ever played. These dungeons aren't for sissies any more. You better come with your A game, because these dungeons will chew you up and spit you out.
They've replaced death penalty, long travel times, time sinks, and boring gameplay with brutal, challenging, and unforgiving content. There are even a few threads on the main forum about how the new dungeons are made for raid toons, and that the only people that can get through them are raid geared toons. In actuality, the new dungeons just need a brain, and some planning. No more gathering three rooms full of mobs and blasting through dungeons any more.
At least for now...
"Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are."
Get some of that funky crit mitigation gear and it becomes a bit more doable, but yes, some of the TSO instances are little buggers to do and make me swear a lot
Yeah, TSO adds a differant way to do stuff. You had RoK with avoidance, and now TSO you need mitigation.
So says the raider in the top raiding guild on his server. Nice perspective.
If its very difficult for raiders how do you think it is for people without all that extra DPS, MIT and HP?
No, Baham is right. These dungeons are hard for anyone to try to brainlessly melee their way though. On the other hand if you actually use some resources available and use your brain, these become very fun and ultimatly more rewarding fights.
EQ3 is a MUST! It most certainly SHOULD be called Everquest 3, also. Why not stick with a relatively successful franchise? The thing I like about everquest 2 is the attention to detail and ambitious attempt towards more immersion than seen anywhere else in an mmo. EQ3 should combine this approach with some solid yet optional pvp to be successful.
Extremism in the defense of Liberty is no vice.
I think Everquest 3 is a great idea that will never happen. Everquest I had so many features that are honestly just gone in todays market. Even EQ I itself has lost thoes features somewhere in those 20 expansions, and depending on how picky you are I owuld pin point it somewhere from Shadows of Luclin to Omens of War. The game had so much content that you were welcome to ignore or embrace. In EQ2 I feel required to do every quest to get achievement levels, whereas in modern MMOs like Warhammer or Warcraft you are nearly required to level alone because of how much more efficient it is. I remeber when I first got WoW I thought you were supposed to group and just did instances over and over to level >_<. Resultingly I was removed from my guild for leveling too slowly... EQ also had dungeons in a way that is not embraced as much. The everybody wins mentaility takes away the magic of Everquest. When 10 groups are battling their way through The Hole, its truely amazing compared to the 8000 guilds that would down Ragnaros on any given week (and on top of that they make it easier and easier). Everquest woulds till have this appeal in my mind if they undid at least every expansion since Gates of Discord, but a new realease would be even better.
I'd like to see them take the original EQ world pre planes of power and, and update the graphics, UI, and content, bring it up to speed with modern MMO's, delete everyones characters, and re release original EQ.
EQ1 was my first MMO and i was enthralled. However, EQ2 was a little disappointing in regards to PvP, armor models and some of the animation (the crab like combat pose, shooting bows (so hilarious as the twig arcs so high), and some of the ugly spell animations...my SK looked like he was throwing jello on mobs for some of his ranged attacks.)
I think there are some things they could tighten up and fix and possibly introduce a housing/city area like AoC had and it would be good. Oh, they really need to make the game focus on the graphics card too!
While I am being selfish, make a really bad@ss werewolf looking race or make the Karan more feral in their pose and animation....just me being greedy. (I saw the beastial race in GW's and was amazed....DF has one too that looks nice.)
Its a bit unfair to lump the accusation of they changed it to WOW 1.5 just on ROK,if anything that was more like LoTR quest wise..the change had happened a long time before ROK
If anything could be said about it rok that is it was just a wee bit boring tbh, though i might add it miles better than TSO
I agree with about the TSO dungeons..they're brutal indeed i would say they're not much less than watered down raid zones..which is great if you like raiding..i dont (been there done that frankly)
TSO is by far the worst expansion yet for EQ2,for that reason alone
EQ3 would be a MT hell.
It would be casual lite solo virtual environment under a shell of EQ lore that people pay to exist in.
No thanks, my memories of EQ1 and early EQ2 have already been tainted enough by the roads that SOE have taken.
Enough damage has been done
It would be awesome to see them bring back some of the hardcore of the original game... from before PoP or Luclin, in fact the just the original world had so much content they could make a great remake for EQ3.
A group based game like the original with player controlled travel via teleports etc.. Make it so people need to have cleric friends for high % exp rezzes, necros for corpse summons, a player made gathering/social/trading area, and non instanced dungeons where people can compete or make alliances or kill each other if on a pvp server.
Force people to interact in the bulk of the game, not just on raid night or some "instance". That is what is missing from pretty much every MMO now days.
They went the opposite way with EQ2, though, originally, it wasn't at all like it is now. EQ2 at launch was a very unique game, though I didn't really like how restricting it was with the locked combat, no heals outside of the group etc... it was definately unique. Nowdays it's just another ez mode WoW clone with player housing. Solo up to 80 then grind out some instances and raid. blah
The thing about SOE is they've completely ruined most of their games EXCEPT the EQ franchise - they seem to absolutely treasure it and tread carefully. Aside from this SOE Cash BS they have made all the right moves and are left with the strongest western fantasy mmo behind WoW and L2. Some of the stuff they have done recently is aimed at keeping EQ2 alive (1-70 faster, LON going free before easter). I much look forward to EQ3 but I'm still enjoying EQ2 and have seen not even a rumour about EQ3 til now.

A true EQIII will never happen. There was an (iirc) video interview with somebody from SoE who said that they made a huge mistake naming EQ2 because people went into it expecting alot of things from EQ1 when really it was a totally different game. So maybe another game in the EQ universe? Sure. A game named EQ3? Nope.

lol I'd say the opposite is also true - If I looked at EQ1 and thought that EQ2 was the sequel then i wouldnt even try EQ2 lol.
