fishing.

Yeah, I'm wondering which game has the best fishing system.

It's really hard for me to decide.  Both WoW and FFXI are pretty good in this respect.  Fishing isn't really good enough in either game to qualify as a metagame in itself, but it's a relaxing diversion, and if you play casually, you could make fishing your primary activity in the game.

Maybe I'm missing something, though.  What games have done it better, in your opinion?

Didn't play FFXI, but remember that in WoW you needed fishermen to "catch" The Lurker (raid boss) in SerpentShrine.

    That's pretty "hardcore".

A Tale in the Desert has a better fishing system than WoW.  Not a particularly good fishing system, mind you; just better than WoW.

In UO, you could go out on your boat and fish... and find a messege in a bottle, and you could use the MiB to track down deep sea treasure's.

I'd say UO wins, because it involves a boat.

I actually thought WoW's fishing system was fun, kind of like a really simple mini game, having to click at the righrt time and all, but maybe im just easily amused lol.

Probably Lineage2's. It's some kind of boring minigame where you pull and loose, using different baits, poles and fish-shots. At least more well thought and complex than the simple and usual 'click when the bouble moves' in wow and others.

Edit: I wonder how is Aion's fishing...

What currently is the best fishing feature in a MMORPG, i do not know.

    But....

I did enjoy fishing in SWG, either with guildy's/friends or with player created fishing contest we had many times.

Lineage 2...I always laugh everytime I run through Aden and see one of the water monsters chasing someone.

heres another video that describes it a bit more in detail.

FFXI Fishing sucked balls. Or did.. havent played in a while... they still got that fucking 30 or so second delay Between casts? if so its crap.

And Vanguards Fishing is pritty good. Its new tho so it still has a few little bugs in it im sure. And you can fish from boats :P

Wow had good Fishing and so did UO. Dont rember any others haveing fishing..

I liked FFXi's Fishing (level 100 ), you actually had to reel in your catch and fight with it.  If the fish pulled left you had to reel it in right. Very interactive, compared to WoW's point and click, gg you win a fish for doing nothing concept.  Also alot of fish only spawned in one place, and you had to do your homework to learn where to catch what.  Unlike in WoW, where you go across the entire world and you can catch the exact same fish in a million different places.

Well, WoW's fishing has been upgraded quite a bit.  It used to be a bit like what you're saying.  Inland water in zones of a specific level range always had the same fish.  Same with coastal water.

BC changed that, and Wrath changed it even more.  Now each zone has slightly different catches to be had, and there are several fish only found in specific zones.  You also make decent money cooking and selling the fish.  There are also tons of novelty items to be had.

The only real failing with WoW fishing is that it's so simple.  Bobber makes a sound, you click the bobber.
