Hello,
I played this game from the day it released for about the next 2 years. Now i am comming back after all this time of playing alright mmos but not being quite as satisfied. I have been wondering if there are much people using DRG/NIN combo these days? I'm also looking for a good server that has 2k+ pleople on between 10pm-2am pacific timezone (doesnt have to be up around there aslong as it has a strong ah and community with people to party with at lower levels so it doesnt take a week to go from 14-30). I will also be starting a new character so any help anyone can give would be much appreciated. Also if anyone has a large linkshell that invites all levels and has a wide level range Please send an invite my way once i get in game.
I was also wondering if the server seraph was still highly populated and or do people still party in the sharingan maze? use to love that place :P. At this note i look forward to partying and playing as well as making friends with everyone on whichever server i do choose. And if anyone i knew back in the day still knows my characters old name windrose im back...

You should see about getting your old character back since they're having the Return Home Campaign. I can only speak for my server Kujata, but it's a decently populated server. With Level Synch it's super easy to get parties now.
It's not a matter of DRG/NIN, it's ???/NIN. People use /NIN for a lot of things now, nothing rare about it. It's especially used for merit parties.
Anyway, if you happen to choose Kujata, I can help you out.

Why would drg sub ninja when they use polearms? I havent played the game for a long time so wouldnt know the changes. Are they dual wielding swords now?
It's all about not getting hit. Has nothing to do with dual wielding. I'm not a fan of overusing it for every single little thing.

HAha the Shakrami maze,i think only some JPN duos or PL'rs are in there and of course i hop in there once in awhile.Personally the whole Windhurst region is the best for leveling, you just have to know where to go.Nobody levels there anymore it is solo to 10-15,then dunes from 10-7/18,worms in Korolloka 17-19/20,then quifim to 24/25,then jungle,i doubt many sway from this routine at all.
I would say your request of 2k players is a decent one as most have around 1800-2200.The Pacific timeline always seemed to be a tough one.Good luck on your return,i just returned and got my bard from 3>19 in two days .
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Bismarck has a pretty strong population. On weekends it's not difficult to see 2k+ steady. During the week it's generally about 1700+. If you're looking for 2k+ you're looking more along the lines of Odin which you cant even create a character there anymore.

You play DRG/NIN for survivability. Utsusemi gives you a few extra hits and thus you can survive longer. Honestly it is not the best sub for DRG since if you use a mage job sub you have access to Healing Breathe and which at later levels trumps Utsusemi by a lot. Also /SAM isn't bad since you will have Hasso and Seigan/Third Eye to play with.
Dual wielding is one of the lesser cared about functions of /NIN to be honest with you (not the correct thinking in my opinion, but it is how it is). I see MNK/NIN a lot because they don't want to get hit. I can see these are probably these people as the big bulky guys who turtled out of the batters box in little league. Offensively /NIN is wrong and in most cases (low delay single handed weapons being the obvious exception), and, honestly, it is kinda of a puss out option.
There are better subs for DDs:
WAR: Berserk, Warcry, Defense Bonus, Double Attack
DRG: Attack Bonus, Jump
DNC: Waltz, Samba, Step
PUP: /laughs
SAM : Hasso, Seigan, Third Eye
Personally I'd look for DRG/BLU or DRG/WHM for solo and DRG/SAM for parties ... but that is just me.
Hehe thanks for your posts everyone. I made a character on the trial and im playing it out till my final fantasy 11 collection of 2008 finishes downloading. My character name is achellis just because achilles was taken :P.I made the character on bismark (however you spell the name i forget), and if anyone on there is able to help a new play out with getting into a good linkshell and what not that would be great. thanks again for you posts guys. Was thinking i want to go pali but what are some good sub jobs for them do people still use them as dd's? or are they just used now a tanks and healers?
Achellis
PLD's are tanks all the way to merits, then they have to go DD if they want a merit party. If they synch lower, then a tank still.

PLD don't really DD .. later in game you might see PLD/NIN dual wielding swords, but that is (again) for suriviability and Utsusemi really. If you end up having your shiled skill and parry up you really don't need PLD/NIN unless you are fighting some mage type mobs. A Water IV still hurts and Utsusemi can nullify that.
PLDs are used as primary tanks so things to entice the mobs are nessessary. PLD/WAR gets Provoke and Defense Bonus this is really your only good choice.
PLD/DNC can work too. They get Animated Flourish which works like provoke, but you need finishing moves to work. You also get Drain/Aspir Samba so you steal HP or MP (if the mob has MP) with every hit against anything that isn't undead. You also get a Waltzes which work as TP based Cures to supplement your MP bassed Cures that you already have as PLD. Trouble is without Defense Bonus you are a little more squishy.
I wouldn't personally try PLD/DNC until level at least 37 when you get Flash. If you happen to not have any steps you need something to entice the mobs to you and Flash would be one of your only real options since you wouldn't have provoke.
... and a tip for an up and coming PLD ... use your mp. Nothing is more frustrating when your PLD tank dies with 90+% MP when the healers have no mp lef to cure with. Or worse, the PLD does not have hate, but has full hp and won't use their mp to cure the party member that is about to die. PLD mp is not there so they make it out of the fight -- in fact that selfishness is about as anti-PLD as you can get -- it is to get hate with.
Suggestion for cure macro: /ma "Cure III" <stpc>
This will cure your sub target. Hit your macro then hit the function key corrisponding to your party member. If you look at your party list they are six people -- presumabily -- F1 is the first person (you), F2 is the second person etc etc. After you have your party member subtargeted hit enter bob's your uncle. NOTE: If you have a mob targeted in a fight when you hit your macro you will automatically be subtargeted. So if you want to quickly cure yourself you just hit your macro then enter, no need to hit the F1 button unless you are subtarged on something else and you need to get back to you.
This might work with the new <stpt> -- which subtargets party members -- the same way, I have not tested it, but if you are using function keys to target there is really no need to and it allows you to cure other pc outside of party. If you don't have function keys then I guess the <stpt> is much better for you, or you could just use a keyboard.
