If someone has a return key i'd like to have one, I played L2 when it first came out and left shortly after...but the game looks very interesting to me now.
That's apparently the point of the "Return" key. It's a pile of horse shit.
You need to pay a full month or more in order for that key to work. So in the end you end up with 45 days of subscription for the price of 30 days. But it still tricks you into thinking that you actually get 15 days for free without having to pay.
If I actually got 15 days FOR FREE because of activating a 90 days or more inactive account, I'd probably consider paying more AFTER my trial ends.

The e-mail that is sent from NCsoft with the invitation code clearly states that you get 15 free days if you decide to reactivate. No ambiguity there. 15 free days is certainly not a bad thing. I've played L2 for about 5 years, with 2 accounts active a portion of that time. Each month I paid my $15 for each account and not once have I thought that was too much or that I was not getting good value for my money.
But to be clear to others looking for a "invite a friend back" code, here's how it works:
Someone with an active L2 subscription sends you a code which you can use on any L2 account you have that has not been active in the past 90 days. You reactivate your account and get 15 days free, or 45 days for the price of 30. The person who sent the code also gets 15 free days.
In the end, it's really a "might as well" thing if you've already decided to reactivate your L2 account.
In my opinion, it wouuld be smarter for NCsoft if the invitee got a free 15 day "trial" first, and when he/she resubscribes then the inviter gets 15 days as well. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

The wife and I would love to give Lineage II another go since we left just after chronical 3. If some one could send us a couple of codes that would be very kind.
