Hmmm... Your profile interest me finnishman. Ruslan I'll look into this just for the hell of it. I am new and it would be fun to find out a bit more about the most active poster on Earth..."LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I PRESENT YOU THHHHEEEEE........FINNISGUY"
I suggest you find another hobby. Trying to find out more about some random internet forum guy is.. well, kinda sad.
And you can keep those personal questions to yourself. I'm here to talk about AoC not give my information to some potential chain-saw killer from Texas.
Originally posted by Rohn This has been happening for the last two months or so, with the AoC poster Worgpest being one of the primary leaders (even several of the forum guys on the official AoC forum have grown tired of his relentless and obvious positive propaganda posts). Their lines of persuasion used since receiving their marching orders have been as follows: 1. After every patch, create the perception that the game has now radically changed/improved - "I don't know about you guys, but since patch X, AoC is so much better, it's like a whole new game...." 2. Discredit any critics by painted them all as people who haven't played the game since shortly after launch or who have never played it, whether true or not - "Don't listen to him, he hasn't played the game since June...." 3. Create the perception that population in the game is dramatically increasing through anecdotal evidence, whether provable or not - "I don't know about you guys, but since X patch, I'm really starting to see tons of new players, and my server is really booming...." Again, they aren't really discussing the game as much as they are trying to change a perception to influence a behavior. It is propaganda. Truth isn't really necessary to the cause. Just perception management.
Thanks for filling me in a little on the history mate. I don't follow the official AoC boards anymore since they hired the fans as mods and started deleting all posts concerning problems with the game, pretty much rendering the board little more than a great big advertising billboard (much like what AoC fans want to do with the AoC boards here at mmorpg).
Every once in a while I hear about some new crazy thing that happened there, like the AoC GM getting caught cybering with a player, or the threads telling the playerbase to collectively vote for AoC in internet polls (with instructions on how to exploit the voting for multiple submissions) to skew the results.
I agree entirely that it is perception management... just like it was at release. Back then it was to keep under control the 'rumors' that dx10 wasn't in, bar brawling wasnt in, the total instancing, keep sieges werent implemented, etc.. the perceptions they are trying to sell to potential players this time around may have changed but the motivation and tricks to influence that perception remains the same. Posts from seemingly 'impartial' people that denounce all negative information and say how great the game is now. Whether its 'how much its improved since beta!' or 'how much its improved since release!' its the same old same old.
ultimately though, a game that is *actually* doing well doesn't need its fans begging on forums for others to come and talk good about the game. Good games speak for themselves - Bad games need its players to do the speaking for them. I guess I know which category AoC fits into, at least for the time being.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Hmmm.. I am curious, how can actually a gamebox speak for itself?
*little gamebox jumping in the shelf at GameStop, pick me pick me picke me*
Now, thats a bestseller!! Sorry, just thought it to be so funny.
Just ignore Avery. He will go down fighting for the game, even if it goes the way of Tabula Rasa. Every post he makes just shows the lack of objectivity. Oh, and if you post on a public forum, don't be such a wimp dear. You read these forums. You know what to expect.
I tried the game again last month, after playing it the first few months it came out. I'd say a 6/10 is fair. If you are going to put the effort they did in Tortage, you need to do the same for the rest of the game. They fixed the memory leak issues, and they added some content, but from level 45 it is still pretty empty, and there are still major issues with inequality of professions(though they have improved). Adding Murderer didn't improve the ganking as much as the servers being empty from everyone leaving. The combat system, with its Contra-style combo neccessity for melee attacks, gets old really fast.
The game now is a GOOD game. A 6 is good. an 8 or above would class it as a great game. That it is not. Maybe, in 6 months to a year, it will be great to play. For now, it's just good.
Playing: TR, GW
Tried: LotRO, CoH/CoV, WoW, AoC, EVE
Waiting on: Aion, Global Agenda, Fallen Earth, GW2
