Even with todays games that are coming out: AOC, WAR, LOTR, D&D, etc...  DAOC is still on top to me.

The new games out today lack the game play DAOC has, yes the other games look pretty and all but they just plain stink.. The way the toons move, run, fight, etc.. just stink in the new games.

If Mythic was smart, they would come out with a game JUST like DAOC and just dress it up more (graphic wise) and add a few new things... but besides that, DOAC is a great game. I can only speak to the classic type of DAOC, I never did play TOA or the newer stuff,.. classic was great.

Been there done that:
Asherons Call,SWG,AOC,D&D,COH,Anarchy Online,DAOC,EVE,Guild Wars,LOTRO,POTBS,WAR,WW2, and Rift

Yeah, I just wish there were a lot more people around, and these clustered servers for the most part, were all brought into one of each type. I wonder what max level is like at the moment, but I don't know if i wanna put all that effort in just to be disappointed that hardly anything is happening.

Hardly anything is happening. The game is currently kind of stale. No news about Origins and the fact that Mythic is concentrating on WAR, makes the lasting appeal of this game going steadily down the drain. Unless something new is done soon, this game will be joining the ranks of the dead. 3k population total in the US doesn't quite pay the bills of keeping it afloat.

Unless they bring out new news in the grab bag or a major announcement soon, the prospects of this game in the US economy in its current state, are not good. I had high hopes while they mentioned Origins, but now, with no news or even a rumor, the population will tumble in the coming months. Especially with the releases of Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 and any other new thing that hits the stagnant US market.

It is still, 8 years later, in the top 3 MMOs of all time, for PvP, number 1.

And even 8 years later, its got some of the best graphics around. Its shocking how much MMOs have regressed in recent years, when the best ones were still made in the late 90s and 2000-2002 era.

Yeah, it's true. I played it a bit yesterday, and while a little rough around the edges in some areas, for the most part, it's on par with many of the games out today, if not better. It's actually pretty nuts.

It's just so hard to bring myself to play the game with its current population and mechanics. I would much rather have the old days of very few quests, mainly grouping and kill way of leveling,  though they can keep the rested exp and other stuff to speed it up a bit, so it's not way too slow to level, and you get to the pvp a bit quicker.

Though half the fun of this game is leveling up, looking forward to getting into PvP, as well as get the amazing looking armor in the end.

The sad thing is, I started DAOC about 2 years ago or so, so I didn't get to see the "old times" in this game and I REALLY wish I would of.

I was into it for a couple years on and off. I think I started about a year or so after launch, maybe a bit less. I got a new computer that year, but got hooked on AC2 for a while first. There was really nothing better at all for years at that time. I don't know what  games I played otherwise at the time. Not sure what took me away.

My only problem with it was the slow leveling. It was a bit TOO slow, when the main focus of the game was RvR later in levels. Kinda like in Lineage 2, where the main focus is PvP, and sieges, and all that crap, but you gotta level for a year or two before you can do any of it effectively.

Albeit DAoC wasn't near as bad as that. The PvE was actually pretty fun for the most part when you got the groups together. I wish more games had grouping like DAoC had, rather than making it solo aside from instances, or some elite mobs.

I actually enjoyed the slow leveling.  It took some effort to get to higher levels and when you did you felt a sense of accomplishment and pride that you managed to beat the odds and get there especially if you screwed up and died and lost a big chunk of exp and had to get it all back.

Toward the end getting to the PvP wasn't that big of an issue since they put in battle grounds for all level ranges where you could go in and battle the other realms for exp.  You no longer have to kill mobs or do any PvE which for some was a good change.  I think that move made it more fun for everybody.  People who wanted to keep PvE'ing could continue to do so, and those who found it somewhat tiresome or tedious could go out and kill the enemy players and get exp that was on par with the monster slayers.

I find myself thinking about the old days of DAoC and I question if I could ever recapture the warm and fuzzies I used to get, or the rush of fighting 2 stealthers on my warrior out in the middle of nowhere knowing that help is too far and it was all up to me.  I guess if the population was back up to where it used to be... hell even half of what it used to be I could see myself playing again.  Hopefully the community would remain helpful, respectfull, and mostly sane, however I have my doubts....

    I blame Blizzard and WoW

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I agree, DAOC was my first MMorpg, and i played it day 2 after release and i still think this game is overall the best mmo out to date.  I've played it on and off the past 8 years and everytime i went back i had a blast. I wish for a return to this amazing game to return to its glory days with a healthier population.

My only wish is to see a DAOC 2 or Origins to bring daoc back to life,
