Its a shame

In my time playing EQ2 I actually enjoyed the game.

Actually I was looking forward to resubbing with this last Xpac until I found out about the RMT and salling of items through station cash.

While the game was fun back in the day, I refuse to play a cash shop game.

I know other people feel the same as I do and its a shame really since EQ2 was actually a good game.

As of right now EQ 2 is NGE'd, kinda sad.

While I never played EQII, I completely agree with you about cash shops. The worst part is, they added a cash shop ON TOP of a subscription price. Sad, but can't say I'm surprised coming from SOE.

There's nothing you could say about RMT that hasn't been done to death here.

Regardless of how people claim to feel, people have been using it for over a decade, and it's popularity is increasing. MMO companies that don't somehow use it to their advantage are missing out on valuable income in an increasingly competitive market. At least with EQ2, it's being done in a manner that is open to everyone.

I'm in same boat as OP. I was considering going back to see how the game has changed with the new expansion release, until I started reading these topics.... I'm glad I left ages ago and did not invest any more time.

Who has been using it for over a decade? Where has it's popularity been increasing? I've never used RMT. I hate RMT. I'll never play RMT. MMO companies that don't use RMT have a chance to get my subscription, those that do, don't. RMT may be popular in Asia, but it isn't in NA. I doubt the people that like RMT would buy their subscription cost and everyone that leave's subscription cost in cash shop items to make up for the people that quit over it.

I used to play this but I don't think it's right to have RMT with a subscription. Also didn't they have specific servers for Station cash or did they change it to all servers? I'm a little out of the loop but felt the need to post to show how against we are over RMT with a subscription. If it was RMT and no subscription I could understand.

Wow, just hopped over to the EQ2 forums to see they sprung the Station Cash on you guys after you bought the expansion without an announcement. Is this really true? Man that's jacked up. BTW 85 pages of this sucks and I quit is like "Woah!"

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

    Hehe

Lots of people have been buying gold, and it's happening more and more in every MMO. Come on, this is common knowledge. Haven't you noticed the games themselves catering for the 'quick-fix' crowd? They go hand in hand.

If you stopped for one second and did a bit of research, you'd find that RMT is very popular in NA, however admitting that you buy gold isn't. At least the Asians are comfortable admitting it.

Like I said, this has been done to death. If you don't want to play a game that involves RMT, then don't.

Do you get your informations straight from the same guys SoE get theirs?

Yes they use a dodgy marketing agency, it is clear to everybody already (see NGE, ROK, The Agency, etc)

Sorry to contraddict you, but the RMT hasn't been a success in the western market.

We've been flooded by Asian F2P MMO with cash shops, yet name one who can be considered a success.

RMT works well in the Asian market, that's the only truth.

Cash Shops are no other than Pay as You go payments................which is a very old method of payement, not a "revolution", if something we are going backward rather than forward.

Would you rather pay for you Internet Connection per hour (like it used to be some time ago), or would you rather pay a monthly fee and have unlimited access?

I bet my ass you ll rather pay the second.

It is the same with the cash shops in MMO, in western countries we prefer to pay a certain amount per month rather than spend extra money on a Pay as You Go.

It is usually more value if you are an heavy user, and MMO people are heavy users.

I recently resubbed even after learning of the cash shop.

Here's what I did, I went and looked at what they put in there and determined it's all unnecessary rubbish that I don't need to advance my character and never opened it in game. Do I care if someone spends $10 to get faster exp for an hour? nope. Do I care if someone spends $10 to run a 50% runspeed for 30 minutes? nope. Do I care if someone spends money on a ingame house item? nope, a visual armor? nope.

Come on people this stuff is a joke. If they started selling equipment the was Necessary to game advancement, then we are on a new page and that is something to get upset about. Untill then just enjoy the game.

So basicly what you said can be chopped down to these two lines.

Thus you decided that all RMT means or ever meant is cash shops.

So back in Ultima Online (they allowed ebay sales) when I was making a few thousand dollars a month selling various things.. it wasn't RMT.

When (can't even remember the name of it) guy was running his little farm shop up in Washington State selling plat in EQ1... and reporting profits of 10's of millions per year (before he sold to IGE) oh ya Yantis...

    That wasn't RMT..

and no western player was buying all those millions of dollars in plat and accounts.

We seem to have some differing views on RMT and who is taking part..

I'd honestly love to see a breakdown of what the cash shop games make versus all those places under the IGE umbrella... who mostly sell to those non rmt using western players...

Just because you.. or *I* don't buy plat and/or accounts doesn't make RMT a mostly asian only market.  Well as far as buyers go anyway...

But when does it end? First its social clothing and mounts, then XP potions ( that mess up balance to begin with).

Then its old school armor and weapons, then instant level cap characters with high level armor.

Then premium packs that give a shit ton of gold and all kinds of bag and bank space for 10 bucks extra a month.

Before you know it the game is shit and anyone spending real life cash on the game has a tremendous advantage.

I say nip it in the bud now, don't play this game, dont let SoE do this.

All thier games need to be closed down for the good of MMOs everywhere ( I truely believe this)

SWG, Matrix, EQ1/EQ2, vanguard and any new MMO they create needs to die. WE as a community need to send the NA/Euro devs a message that we dont want cash shops in our games if you don't within a few years every game will have them and this genre will be even worse then it is now.

So i refuse to play any game that makes me pay for anything other then a sub and Xpacs/boosters.

Keep that retarded shit in the asian countries where they like games that play like alpha clients.

"We have no plans what so ever to do actual sales of in game items, and I'm personally very opposed to the idea for EverQuest"

"We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period."

    John Smedley

This is another reason why I am not paying to play games who say one thing then do another, like I just posted in an AoConned post I will not support companies who continue to abuse their position in the marketplace, hey I am all for everyone making a few bucks/pounds/Euro's provided they are above board and honest and provide a service for the money I am paying, but when people like John Smedley blatantly abuse their position and lie through their ass they deserve to loss their companies and fancy positions and imo our goverments need to put these people in jail as they are crimminals imo.

Who cares if they have items for sale that you buy with real money. Don't knock the business knock the dumbass who buys it. If you and every other EQ2 and EQ1 player base doesnt buy a single damn item because ya know what you dont have to they will shut that division down and the items will be in the game somewhere for you to find. Let it go its not worth the pixels that are displayed after you type i hate SOE remarks.

  • RavanosRavanos Member Posts: 897

EQ2 has had RMT in game for longer than you think ... their card game gave fluff items like those on the station cash except then you had to get lucky and get a loot card. thats been going on for a long time and they have never added anything that gave you extra power through those cards and no i don't see xp potions as "unbalancing" i think thats just nitpicking.

they have been giving xp potions as veteran rewards since the beginning of the game ... heck most of the time I don't even use all my xp potions .... thats how many i have as a 5 year veteran.

you guys are just looking for another reason to hate on SOE and its pretty damn sad if you ask me. EQ2 is a damn good game(imo one of the best on the market) thier developers are doing a good job (except aeralik he can kiss my ass). And some of you wont even give it a chance because of the SOE logo.

just wait till Blizzard does it too, RMT are the future of the industry back to MUDs for most of you i guess.

Just because WE dont buy something doesnt mean it doesnt effect us.

Other players buying crap with RL kills balance in a game. just look at all the cash shop games for proof of this.

Anyway EQ2 was fun but from now on it is no longer considered a Real mmo in my book it goes in the bin with every other bastard f2p.

kinda sucks too since I enjoyed the game when I played.

They won't shut it down because it costs little to run and they don't need to sell much to make a profit, no matter how much it cheapens their games.

Alas, I think we(me and the OP) are a dying breed, taken over by the "Gimme now!" audience that the genre has so desperately tried to aquire. Shame to watch the genre die to the demands of these simpletons.

Have to agree with fumbles. The stuff they are selling is no big deal. However,if they start to sell game-changing items that would alter my thinking.

Ravanos!!! im just joking around man lol!

yeah I understand what you guys are saying right now the cash shop is harmless.

But what happends if it get really popular and SoE adds items that aren't harmless?

See I wouldnt want to even give them a chance to do that. I am totally against Cash shops, im not a EQ2 hater at all and I think its a freaking MMO tragedy that this is happening to you guys.
