Is Atlantica Online really as good as people are saying it is? /moved

or is it just paid-employee-posting-on-message-board hype?

I've played a little bit, but not enough to get a real definite view of the game(only really played for about 10 minutes so far).

just looking to get a feel for what exactly I am getting into.

thoughts?

I played it for a few days and found it to be fun. I understand why people like it so much because for a Free To Play game I think its the best one out right now.

It is as good as people are saying it is. Its totally its own and F2P.

I can tell you i was really intrigued for about 5-7 days. Then i realized it was just the initial feeling you get playing something new or a tad different. The combat witch is the basis for every game, was pretty much boring after those 5 days. You do not have enough control over the battle, matter of fact you have ZERO control, you just enter your battle options and let it go.They throw in the timer because they know if allowed to think too long you got it even easier, and real time would not work either because you are controlling more than 1 player.

It is your typical low budget engine/world even the players models and mobs are ho hum, really nothing in Atlantica other than a few different ideas on how they approach gaming.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The hype is not paid employee posting.  I have posted quite a few posts about this game (under a different account name -- change due to the sillyness of it).

There are many other posts on these forums on this topic.  It would be best to check them out since the people who wrote in depth answers probably don't want to write them all over again :)

A few things to think about regarding if you will like this game.

    - It is a turn based strategy game.  You will be controlling and gearing more than one character and fighting on a turn by turn basis, similar to chess, checkers, etc.  If this is something you are not interested in, then this game is not for you.

-This is an import F2P game.  The graphics are not next-gen as the game was created years ago in Korea and recently imported here.  If graphics are the most important feature to you, this game may not be for you.

-If you are looking for a very deep storyline, this may not be the game for you.  The storyline is there, but is fairly humorous and nothing like the "worlds" you will experience in some other Pay 2 Play games.  I still enjoy it, but I also like that it is pretty funny.  Really depends on what you are looking for.

-If you are looking for FUN PvP, this may be the game for you.  I have had A LOT of fun PvPing in this game.  Literally every battle is different, and it always keeps you thinking about how you can improve.

-If you are looking for a great community, this may be the game for you.  The Atlantica Online community is honestly one of the best I have come across.  I have never seen so many people willing to go out of their way to help others than I have in this game.

I could go on forever, but I wont :)  Check the other posts made here for more opinions.  These forums are littered with them.

---- You control 9 different characters which all have multiple abilities?  This would be true if you just used the Merc Auto Battle all the time, but seriously who would only do that??

You have TOTAL control over not one but NINE characters...

It's actually really very good.  It is in my top ten MMORPG's of all time, and if you have doubts read the reviews on their site from key memebers of Warcry, TenTonHammer, and MMORPG.com.  Don't miss this one.  It is better than AoC, WAR, and all the other rehashed crap out there.

whoa what the crap...I didn't even know this game had a forum on this site.

took me forever to figure out what the heck happened to my thread on the General forum...

    anyway, lemme ask this.

if you had to pay retail cost for the game, and pay a standard monthly fee, with no item shop, would you play Atlantica Online?

(btw..the Item Shop thing is admittedly kind of a turn off. i hope it isn't absolutely necessary to use)

The game itself is the same as any other mmorpg with micro transactions in the sense of graphics and engine , just a little more demanding in pc , but u can adjust that pretty well.

The joy of the game is perhaps the battle system is pretty fun to play a turn-based mmo its something new and fresh, and been able to control 9 characters from alot of other characters avaliable its pretty fun and competitive :D.

It has a very healthy community and they have this system that makes u help begginers , i like the mentor and student thing , sharing info of monsters and the idea of having towns for ur guild.

i recomend it , it could make u play this game instead of a retail , but not every1 shares that opinion even ive seen some ppl coming from WOW and WAR :P.

And the item mall its not quite necesary u can play all the game without having any major trouble but if ur competitive then u will have too, but in bigger lvls.

it has me hooked up nice aproach to the f2p mmos i give this game an 8

Yes, it is that good. And this is coming from someone who HATES Asian MMOs, especially F2P ones. This one is different. This one is GOOD. Old-school party based and turn based combat, excellent community tools, great crafting and economy, lots and lots of items.. I could go on and on.

And don't let the cash shop fool you. NONE of the items in the cash shop are necessary to play and enjoy the game. They are merely for convienience, and almost all of them are available in game.

People complain about the multitude of "WoW clones", yet here is an MMO that's completely different, and FREE.

All I gotta say is I have an active WAR account that I haven't touched since trying this game a week ago. In fact, the Atlantica servers are down right now for maintenance, and I'm fiending to play it.

The game is free... download it and try it. You have nothing to lose.

It depends on which people you're referring to.  If it's the "this is the best game ever" from someone's first post who will never post here again, then no, it's not nearly as good as they claim.  If it's the "this is identical to a zillion other games I hate" trolls, well, it's better than that.  I'm pretty sure that at least some of the forum hype was driven by Ndoors, but there are people who do really like the game.

If you're in the market for a "free to play"/item mall game, it's worth a look for the turn-based combat and the mercenary system.  It's up to you to decide whether those are your cup of tea.

Just wanted to say something regarding the previous post.

I have used & enjoyed this website for the past 10 years.  While I haven't posted as much as others, because I tend to post in the game forums I currently play, that doesn't discredit my opinion or anyone else who has just started posting.

Assuming that our opinions aren't worth as much as yours because of a post count is just silly.

The game is great if you like the combat style is based around.

Also the guild system is leagues ahead of most p2p games even.
