Now I see a lot of people claiming Darkfall as "zomg its HARDCOREE!" PVP!!" and really I fail to see whats so "hardcore" about it. I admit that being able to attack anyone anywhere anytime and being able to steal their items, mounts, houses and whatever else as harsh and unforgiving. But to just respawn seconds later is not that hardcore. Now im sure exactly sure how this works but I heard someone mention that lineage 2 added some feature where you made a special class and when you died playing as this class that was it, no respawn and your character was deleted.
I am in no way a fan of lineage 2 I was only using it as an example of something thats actually "hardcore". I mean whats more hardcore than your character being deleted after you die?
Having said that I am excited to see what darkfall brings to the table (if when it comes out). Im just tired of kids claiming it as hardcore when really, its not.
Comments
The penalties and consequences of death in Darkfall are more severe then those of more popular MMOs. In your opinion it might not earn the title of being hardcore but you cant deny its leaning more that way then any of the other main stream games
Ahh... the refreshing "Who is more Hardcore" thread. It's been a few days since we've seen one of these.
I don't remember who said it in the last thread that was like this... but he's got you beat.
He was promoting that when your character dies your account is deleted. If you want to play again you have to buy a new copy of the game... NOW THAT IS HARDCORE!
Darkfall hasn't been released (I think it's total vaporware) , but claiming that it is hardcore is laughable. No one who plays an online game is "hardcore", no matter how much time you put into it.
LOL yes that would be very hardcore. If upon death you had to make a new toon, why would you even play such a mess. I mean come on, that couldnt possibly be fun. Hell even mario bro's gave you 3 lives..
To respawn seconds later with no gear.... seems pretty hardcore to me.
none of us are hardcore, we just just people playing a video game.. all hardcore means is that when you die you could basically lose EVERYTHING you have if you arent careful
Heh... Char delete in mmorpg is very cruel, maybe it would work if you could attack only your lvl player ( still doubting it), but in open pvp world it is just impossible, simply those who start first and are friend in real will group and kill any newbies so making no competition. Still losing all your items is very "hardcore" in these days at mmorpg. Almost in all games you dont give a damn about death, there even is things called "death train" (at least year ago i heard this definition prety much) it is when you simply kill youself/alow to be killed just to get to city/respawn point just by losing worthless few % of exp or maybe nothing.
Only thing they could add to make it more harcore is skill loss. More you have more you lose, so not so much point in killing noobs.
Were discussing video games here not real life.
Darkfall is more hardcore then any other MMO out so yes Darkfall is hardcore.
Having perma death isnt something that would work so why even discuss it?
DF is pretty hardcore comparing to most titles.
More hardcore is only permadeath, which is possible only in games without grind. in diablo2 it worked great, because i could remake character to lvl70 in 1 day. also in shadowbane, i guess permadeath would work, you can maxlvl in 3-4 days.
As for darkfall, developing character takes too long. Plus its paytoplay game and permadeath will only work in freetoplay, even grindy ones. Shaiya has permadeath and only res rune bough from item mall can save you. So technically, each time u die,you lose real money and thats really hardcore, maybe more than permadeath in diablo2
Playing: Rohan
Played (from best to worst): Shadowbane, Guild Wars, Shayia, Age of Conan, Warhammer, Runes of Magic, Rappelz, Archlord, Knight online, King of Kings, Kal online, Last chaos
Umm... because it's a forum?
See in forums people make posts on topics that they think might be interesting to discuss.
Usually a person who doesn't think that topic worthy of discussion would just... oh I don't know... ignore it?
A individual or group of individuals are considered hardcore based on their intense dedication to a person or activity, by definition a GAME is not hardcore. Could you call it's dedicated player base hardcore yes. In general you have to be pretty damn dedicated to put up with the pvp and loot system of Darkfall.
As such the game garners the title of "Hardcore." But by definition no the game is not hardcore but anyone still playing after 6 months would be considered very hardcore in my book.

Hmm... Are you posting in every DF thread?
I think UO ar whatever that game was have same system. Also not so long ago (maybe few months ago) there was even advertisemnt in mmorpg.com about game with perma death. And there was many people playing. Not tried myself....
humantycoon: can you post link to that type of char in official L2 thread, i play it from time to time, but i dont remember such class.

Perma death isnt an option for Darkfall.
Reason for it have already been mentioned in this thread, it takes too long time to retrain a new character.
Games that make you get back in game fast upon your perma death isnt hardcore.
Explain to me how permadeath would work in a game like Darkfall?
Takes btw 2-4 weeks to get to 100 in a skill.
If you wanna compare permadeath games with Darkfall then find a game that have perma death and the same retraining period.
When your toon is killed your character is deleted, the game charges you for 3 months subscription fees, and your account is cancelled that is hardcore. But yet full loot is about as good as it gets for now.

And that is a valid opinion for you to have.
However, it doesn't change the fact that someone other than yourself might have a different opinion and decide they want to make a topic to discuss it. That's how the forums work.
If you think a topic is breaking the rules... you can report it.
If you think a topic isn't worth discussing... you can ignore it.
That's how the forums work here... sorry if that disturbs you.

Care to point to the quote where you gleaned that informaiton in red... I haven't seen that published anywhere and would be interesting in reading it. Thanks.
I like the idea of a real death or perma death system as long as there could be ressurection from death.
As in you stay dead till someone brings you back, now thats sandbox, also would make ressers a ton of cash... and im sure everyone would try to be in a guild ASAP.

Its in one of the dev journals or interviews Tasos attended. I try to find it later on, off to work now.
Think it was in a quite new one. Or a recently released interview.

Does it really matter? This works as example well. If you wanna to reach max in few days and have perma death you can try Guild Wars, if i remember correctly you can create max lvl char anytime, so when you die just delete and create new one, here you go, your perma death :D

Ahh... I didn't realize I had missed any of them. It must have been one that slipped by me. When you get a chance I'd be very interested in the link. Thanks.
Yes yes, if you want to really be hardcore have Permadeath discussion.
And if they make the game Permadeath im sure that one guy and his 8 friends who lives in his parents basement will love playing it.
Permadeath is only fun once, then it just sucks.
DF is hardcore because the devs dont think the players will be retards, and by that have given them own responsibility and player freedom. You cant blaim anyone else if you fail ingame. No game mechanic will save you.
...mutten, ......sigh * kids
darkfall = Hardcore
permadeath = Extreme hardcore
Dofus has a permadeath PvP server. It's a real bastard getting your char to a decent lvl only to jump into the wrong fight and lose your toon
Great fun though, so if anyone is doing the whole "perma-death can never work" thing, it already has.
