Instancing concerns

FunseikiFunseiki Member UncommonPosts: 263

I looked on the website and couldn't find any info on whether the game was going to have instancing. Any info?

The reason I ask is because it says on the website "While there are some tasks that cannot be completed without the cooperation of others, the majority of the game can be accomplished by playing alone." Does this mean the game will be like guild wars/phantasy star online and universe/fable 2, where you go out into your own instanced version of the world and can have others join it?

I am hoping Bioware has something bigger and better planned than that. Judging by their past successes in single player games, I know whatever they do will be fun, but I hope it will be fun in the "massive" sense.

Also it says the majority of the game can be accomplished alone, does it mean that the game will end? I may be looking to far into this, but I guess it is better than hoping for certain features in a game to come out and realize after buying it that those features don't exist.

I don't think it will be in the way you think. Sure there will be instancing, as all games use them pretty much now. But it won't be like DandD where everything is.

I wouldn't try to read too much into stuff this far out. It's just print and subject to change at any time.

basically what everyone needs to do is stop reading stuff about the game until about a month before it launches. then you can probably get a really good feel for whats going to be in the game and what its going to look like.

    Seamless World and Instances

Utilizing a room visualization system, an area can contain an unlimited number of rooms. Rooms can in turn be set to render or not render adjacent rooms, greatly saving on render times and costs.

Transitional pieces can then be utilized to allow large scale texture bank swaps as a player exits one area and enters another. This powerful and flexible system delivers stellar performance and the appearance of a seamless world.

O nice. But it's not exactly sandbox is it? Like if you cross a bridge, from the other side would people see you coming? Eh, whatever at least its seemless. I'll just wait and see a month before release as a previous poster said. Where did they release this info though?

One of the major concerns about SWTOR is that it will be KOTOR with a global chat.  I agree with the mentality of waiting until Bioware has expelled all it's creative energy and made the best game they can then reading about it a month before launch while they are frantically fine-tuning it for production.

and then drink the sweet day-one player's tears when feature X and Y aren't included even though the devs promised 12 months ago.

Why is that a concern? I would be more than happy to play KOTOR with a global chat. I am sure there will be some grouping thrown in too.

I was referring to it being a single player game with the option to talk to other players being the only "Massively Multiplayer" aspect.

I am not hung up on words. If it is a fun game .. i have no problem playing a "single player game with the option to talk to other players".

Massive is overrated anyway. How many people can u interact at the same time? A 10-man raid fight is a crowd already ... 25 is almost unmanageable. So if you can't deal with more than 25 people at one time, there is no need to have 100 at the same zone. In fact, even WOW BG is like 40 people most ..that is quite enough to give a chaotic battle feel.

As long as they have a AH to buy & sell stuff .. it is massive enough for me.
