Well I guess either enough people complained or the right people complained but the mods were banning folks left an right today for inappropriate behavior which basically means talking about forced sex and Child pornography in very explicit and downright disgusting terms.
First a warning was flashed out across global chat.
Paraphrasing:
While we at funcom support a mature atmosphere for AoC we in no way endorse or support language that includes racial hate based or abusive towards Women or children.
Then the jerks that didn't believe them stared to get even worse, after that it was a series of OMG I'm being Banned the Mod is telling me my account is now inactive! FU Failcom FU!!!!!! and various other forms of QQing after that Global was a very polite albeit quiet place.
Interesting to see if this will become a habit.

Yes can you point me to a game that has a perfect community? I have 6 characters spread over 4 different servers. Only chat I hear is the regular smack talk from PvP. Never heard of the kind of chat the OP is phrasing. Not going to admit it doesn't go on, I am sure it does, like it said seen it in a lot of games.
The good thing here is that it is being dealt with.
Every indication that the age group that plays the game is high is out there with hard evidence. You don't know how old these people are.

If you notice on Wiccana it is the same asshats every night. So the comment about the age thing is pointless to a few asshats that like to use global to talk about the crap like that. If you play on Wiccana you know who they are.
It's about that time if I'm in a group global chat gets shut off. I hope they banned a few that talk crap nightly in global, now maybe it will be peaceful.

I was having a bit of fun too, so don't mind me.
I actually agree with you in that no matter what the average age of the AoC playerbase is; it never seemed any different than any other community to me, both in game and on the forums.

Another example of good old mature AoC community. I've seen almost the same thing on Aquilonia server but there were no global chat warnings at that time.
By the way how do you know mods were "banning folks left an right"? The fact that people went quit doesn't mean they were banned. Could have been just a private last warning from a mod.
Funcom is not in a situation where they can ban accounts because server populations are too low as it is.

Much better than the massive wholesale bannings for the known, unpatched gold duping.
FunCom's If Gold # = X then Ban stragety hit a lot of innocent Guild leaders who were just doing their job of pooling the guilds funds to buy the first cities.
If the people banned were acting as you mentioned then lets hope that the bans were perma bans.

Because...like my original post said these guys were telling Global they were being banned as it was happening and we haven't seen any of them back on since...one of the Guild leaders from Kaotica even confirmed that he lost about four members perminatly so yeah they were perma bans looks like.

But Chuck E Cheese is still one up on Funcom...seeing how they implemented Drunken Brawling before AoC.

How many morons play Wow? Or any other game for that matter.
To be fair I played AoC on Crom since start and never heard anything about rape, pedophilia or rasism (well, I Stygian and a cimmirian in game once but that is not the same thing, they were RPG ing).
But idiots exist everywhere and should be banned. But just because a moron like something doesn't mean there is something wrong with the thing, idiots can like and do random things. It is not AoC or Wows (or insert random game) fault if a idiot likes it.
Still, they should be banned as fast as possible and I don't really see any MMO that would allow this so Fc basicly did what everyone else does.
