Other gamers that are superficial, don't like sandbox games, are trolls, think they are good at PvP but really are nolifers with poor social skills and won't cut it in a world where they can't choose the fights, want their hands to be held as they progress through a ridiculously long single player game with a massive chat system plagued with immaturity, want safe roleplaying, are carebears, etcetera will either not try it due to un-interest, not try it due to never hearing of it since it is spread by word of mouth, try it and cancel quickly due to not knowing what to do with such freedom, try it and cancel quickly due to not being able to handle the danger of world, etcetera.
Basically I think there will be two types.  The type that wants something like this so bad they will blinded to its faults due to the greatness of its strengths, and those that will leave for any number of reasons within the first month or two.
The best part is the first type generally hates the second and would rather not play with them in the first place.

Other gamers are stupid and we are 1337!

Anyone wants to know why noone can stand the majority of the Darkfall community, this guy just gave the prime example. Amazing some people can even remember to breathe.

Wow hostile much?  Did you take the time to calm down before unleashing your rage on me?  Read what I wrote slowly and calmly while taking deep breaths.

Check out the blue that I highlighted.  Did I ever say that they were 1337?  I hate leet speak.

Check out the red that I highlighted.  I didn't say that everyone not playing it was stupid, or that other gamers were stupid for that matter.  I just listed off a bunch of reasons why people might not like it.  If anything it shows a weakness because there are tons of reasons people won't play, and one main reason people will.

Now check this out.. it's quoted for emphasis and not even highlighted!  Basically I think there will be two types. The type that wants something like this so bad they will blinded to its faults due to the greatness of its strengths, and those that will leave for any number of reasons within the first month or two.

I even said the type that is blinded to it's faults because of it's strengths, and the ones who leave for any number of reasons.

Also the final statement I made isn't saying that the type who will play it are leet, or think they are better.  I just said that they hate the second and would rather not play with them.

Assumptions and blind rage reminds me of all the girls I dated in high school.

Nice attempt at an insult at the end. Learn that in Kindergarten, or special ed?

And you'll notice there's a lot more yellow left than the little bit of red you highlighted.

Feel free to continue trying to pretend you made a valid point, blah, blah, blah.

You came out with the insults aimed at those who don't bow down to the glorious Darkfall, and then got upset 'cause you were called out on it.

    It's okay, I promise. You're safe here.

The point is I gave a list of reasons why someone might not do something.  Another example may be:

"They might not eat at McDonalds because it is fattening, it is greasy, they don't like hamburgers, they don't like french fries, they don't like the M logo, they don't like clowns, they are stupid, etcetera."

Then with your assumptions you assume I am insulting those who don't like McDonalds even though I listed perfectly acceptable and non insulting reasons for not liking McDonalds.  I have plenty of friends that I know won't like Darkfall and fall into that list I wrote.  One is my wife.

I am not a troll, but you sure are fitting the part.

Edit** Damnit I read some of your post history and I agree with most of what you write especially about the indy game scene.  Not gonna post in this banter anymore.

I'm not sure this is true.  While i don't like to speak or interact with the carebears, i do enjoy killing them.  Nothing satiates my PK hunger like looting items from a screaming carebear corpse.  Probably will be lean pickings on carebears in Darkfall but the game promises to be so gloriously awesome that it won't matter.  We will let the looting do the talking and the carebear whines that were the only reward from pking in previous mmos will be a thing of the past.  LONG LIVE DARKFALL!!!

And they will be the ones who scream the loudest when the "unfinished features, bugs, poor graphics etc." are responsible for them hitching, lagging, tripping on a deceased invisible turtle, dying and anything else that impacts on their gameplay.

If the playerbase accepts anything less than the "feature complete" game that Tasos has been mouthing off about in interviews for some time now, then they only have themselves to blame when they find out that Aventurine has pulled another FunCom switcheroo and given the mmo industry another half-baked game padded with the hopes of being able to implement all the features that the game was being promoted with somewhere down the line.

Actually these are the types that play low quality games just to get their fix.  The type that still play UO on private shards, or lower quality games.  Most of the ones I am talking about would play with the half the features listed as long as they knew more was coming.  Content gamers are happy gamers and are less likely to complain, but instead focus on what they like in the game and how it could be even better.

I can't believe you are comparing this to AoC.  Funcom spent so much money on marketing, pre orders, and deceipt while focusing on the first 20 levels of their game and limiting beta to within that level range to boost inital sales.  Aventurine has not even asked for 1 dollar, and their game world is completely open.  It is a completely different type of game.  It is not content based, but feature based.  There are so many reasons this comparison doesn't work.

Aha!  I've said so many times I am a fan of all games close to launch.  I guess deep down I want more successful titles that are worth a damn.

So no matter the game..  pre launch I will support it.  (.. except for Hello Kitty Online.. I just stayed away)

No, I'm not.  I am comparing the dodgy shenanigans that went on with FunCom and the release of their "feature incomplete" game (despite promoting it as being otherwise), and Adventurine who is appearing more and more each day to be getting ready to drop the bomb on what features are being cut from their "feature complete" (as Tasos has called it) game.

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

Ah yeah it definitely isn't going to have 100% of the features.  As long as it has the key features to make it fun and give this type of player what they want then it will grow and give them time to get the features in.  Only time will tell.

Wow does Google have a translator for this language???

Downtoearth, you would carry a bit more weight in your attacks if you took the time to type correctly and spell words at least somewhat correctly.

As it is you come off as a very young teen full of angst, pi**ed at everyone that doesn't believe that Tasos and Dork-n-Fail is the second coming.

Oh and BTW I was a WAR tester and there at launch. I can damn well believe they had 750K, of course now they probably have less then 400K. Numbers which I predict D-n-F won't ever reach.

  • BlackWatchBlackWatch Member UncommonPosts: 972

    Prediction?

They launch in EU first because if they launch in the US first and flop, the fallout won't be nearly as severe for them.

I still predict AoC/Vanguard-like launch issues.

If you've ever been part of the Darkfall forums for over a year you would know the amount of registered people was about 50k until August 2008. When the big trailers came out the forum population mushroomed.

That's one opinion on why the population mushroomed.

Another opinion is that because the Forum name and registration of said forum was tied to getting a chance of being in Beta.

Not that ANYONE would EVER create multiple forum accounts to have a better shot at getting into Beta... Nope.   I'm sure that all registered user there are unique posters, and only represent 1 person each.

You guys are really asking for alot out of this game.

Seriously 300k subs? with no in store game box and a 18 gig file on a torrent?

If DF has more then 20k people playing on more then two servers it will be a massive success in my eyes.

This is a low budget developer there's no way in hell they will generate the subs or the polish that will make you silly guys/gals happy.

It will be a decent game that the realistic sandbox crowd is expecting.

A niche pvp game with a small tight knit community that will give the DF devs time to implement the massive amount of features that will be missing from this game at launch  The true sandbox/pvp fans will have faith and pay for DF as its in its paid phase of Beta (january release).

As sandbox fans we have done this for UO, SWG, EvE and Ryzom, DF will be no different.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Yes I agree as that pretty much describes me and I think quite a few of the people interested in this game.  I expect missing features and bugs but as long as the core game is not complete shit I will be playing.

Personally i watched all the videos i could and the game looks pretty good.My problem is that EVERYTHING points to PVP,and that is a fail and will not encourage me to play.Saw some pretty cool things in the videos, like the guy shooting up the water spout to get up the top of the ridge,FFXI did something similiar but on a lesser scale[dangruf wadi].

I noticed how a lot of people don't like the animations, some are a tad off,but at the same time i noticed they tried to give each race it's own sort of bounce in their step and movements. It is really hard to make VERY good animations i think these guys did alright.

A PVP game has no story line,no reason other than to log on and kill people, this is why this kind of game will struggle. In PVE games you band together to try and conquer that BOSS or epic quest line,to advance in the storyline, games need that.I also saw nothing about crafting, basically every single video was about scenery and PVP.It is too bad,i think they tried to put together a pretty decent game here, but lack of money and stafff means  we get a PVP game witch is simple to do,VERY hard to make it work and it won't.

My prediction?i am guessing that it will fall into the same relams as AOC did,an initial burst of players ,then slowly fall off.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I wish i could get a qoute, but Tasos clearly stated its not meant to take any of the WoW userbase, the game is made for people who want freedom in an mmo, but obviously didn't get it in WoW or any of its spin offs. And also the majority of those people are UO and AC players, who thrive on full loot and PvP.

BAsed on what I know.. seen and experienced... Id guess this will fall into the realm of Eve Online... I hope. It will be very niche and have a loyal following... it wont be millions but a few hundred thousand it the best it could hope to achieve... and that's if it is successful.

  • Death1942Death1942 Member UncommonPosts: 2,587

it will be a successful niche game that appeals to a few thousand players and will join the many other niche MMO's out there.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

  • dikkydikky Member CommonPosts: 261

eve online started with very little hype and very few subscribers but they proved if you make an innovative and well built game, you'll get subscribers. I think their latest numbers were around 250k subscribers and still growing.

Not too bad at all, esp when you consider most games lose subs.

If adventurine puts out a solid game then I can see them eventually getting into the 300k+ club
