Hi,
I'm big into character customization. In fact, it's probably the largest selling point when it comes to playing RPG's. I've heard about the Legendary Weapons off and on for a few months now, but never really looked into it.
I understand Legendary Weapons are something you get and they grow more powerful as you level, but I don't know how you get them, what they look like, what kind of variety you have for each class, what level you get them, or if this is expanded to armor as well (Legendary Armor).
WoW has something similar, called heirloom items. You get heirloom items through endgame play (Wintergrasp PvP, 5-mans, 10/25 man raids). They are bound to your account, so you can use the items on any character as long as they meet the requirement. These heirloom items can be used at lvl 1 and grow in power as you level up and until level 80.
Thanks for any clarification. I've been lvl 80 for 2 weeks now and running Heroics aren't really useful anymore for my main character. Raiding is hard to get into on my schedule, due to the majority of people wanting to raid for 6 hours at a time. My guild is interested in raiding, but won't for probably another month or two. So I'm left to PUGing raids whenever I can, which isn't often (maybe once a week) and the rest of my time leveling an alt (bleh!).
I was/have been thinking about trying LoTRO out again, but I admit to liking WoW more. Now that I'm pretty much done with WoW or don't have much to do that I really want to do, I've been thinking about maybe subbing to LoTRO.
I've heard that plenty of reasons why I left still remain, so I've been hesitant. Such as groups being hard to find; or groups rushing through the content, since they know it really well; classes still feeling bland by many people. I played on Lanroval (sp?) and I read a review a month ago on how things are still like that on that server and other reviews describing the community being like that on other servers. I'm a grouper by nature, but appreciate solo play as well when I can't group. I found WoW to have a great balance of group v. solo play and LoTRO was similar, except they had Books: Chapters, which I always loved. I never got far enough to raid, but couldn't due to my internet connection (reason I left last time).
So anyways, sorry for being long-winded, but if you all can clarify things I am unclear on, I'd be thankful.

Hello - I will be happy to share what I know about Legendary weapons... I am up to level 55 on my Guardian - so I'm sure I have lots to learn still... but anyways here goes...
Your first legendary weapn will be given to you up a completion of the Moria entrance quest line (There is a whole book you need to do before you are allowed into the mines)
The legendary weapons come with random skill modifications, known (i think) as legacies.... I think your first legendary (the quest reward) has set legacies, but any other legendary weapons you come across will have random legacies... some much better than others... For example... on my guardian, some of the weapon legacies I have seen are + (x) to meele range, + (x)% to sweeping cut damage, - (x) seconds on Stomp cooldown, + (x) seconds to Guardians Ward etc....
As your weapons level, by fighting monsters, they gain levels. As they gain levels, you get attribute points to spend on increasing each of the legacies on the weapon. Some are more efficient to upgrade than others - You can also upgrade DPS by spending those same attribute points.
As far as looks go - they arent anything special, in my opinion...I havent seen all the models, but they look similar to most other weapons in the game - the obvious difference is that they grow in power. I have noticed some have a slight aura about them - similar tow WoW enchants, but not as obvious.
You can slot up to 6 Legendary Items at once... and they all advance each time you kill something for experience, or turn in a quest with Item Advancement XP as a reward....
Overall - Its a cool system - and I am liking it more and more as I continue to learn it.
PS - As for finding / aquiring these weapons - its easy... Lots of mobs in moria drop them - or you can turn in "rusty dwarf tools" (also dropped randomly) to you class barterer for weapons.... Once you aquire them - you MUST take them to a FORGE MASTER to get them identified - this is when you find out which legacies the weapon has - from there you can decide to equip it - or take it to a RELIC MASTER to deconstruct for runes. ( the runes are collected and added to legendary weapons you keep to make them stronger... +stats / dmg / morale etc. )
Hmm, sounds interesting, but I wish I could use them at lvl 1 like heirlooms in WoW. Leveling up weapons sound like a little how artifacts in DAoC worked.

These are nothing like heirloom items. You know exactly what stats they will have at 80vs these LI are unkown untill the final forging. You also have some choice I believe over the items and can even be named. Over all i think this is a lot better their heirloom items.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Also as a good tip for someone playing now, the junk Legends you find but don't want to keep... equip them while fighting, level them to at least 11, THEN reforge them.
You'll have a much better chance of getting better gems than if you just identify it and then break it down.
11, 21, 31, 41, etc.
