LOL eat that! Dear god! I have NEVER seen a game look that good, hell I've seen movies that didn't look that good! Blacsac what kind of system is gonna be needed for that?! Looks amazing, hear that sound? That's me picking my jaw off the damn floor.
AC2 is not bad at all. Leans a bit towards cartoonish, but still good. Willing to bet DnL ups the ante on avatar graphics which seems to be its only soft spot.
DnL has great scenery at a distance, anything up close though and the textures just looks like crud. They had to do it that way becuase of the massive draw distance to try and get a decent FPS. It's a trade off, you don't get anything for nothing in computer graphics so you have to pick either long draw distance or larger textures for more detail up close.
Jackdog have you ever seen games that use low polygon character models at greater distances and high polygon models at closer distances? In DnL the detail level increases and decreased depending on how close you are to something.
Look at some of the interior screenshots, in this post, with a woman in it standing in a room with some sort of canvas on the wall and think again whether the close-ups look like crud
Jackdog, you're just a troll who makes stuff up just to bash the game

Dont be stupid, read his post. You can clearly see that while the game scales textures and models well enough, even close up they arent that great. Textures are muddy and characters dont have a lot of color and character to them. I think DnL has some fantastic scenery and foliage, but the player models are some of the ugliest ive ever seen in a game (not so much the humans, they look pretty good, but the Lupins, Half Trolls and Dwarves are just horrendous). Another thing I dont really like is how there really isnt much variety in the enviroments. In other MMOGs like WoW or Guildwars, you can look at a screenshot and automatically know where that area is because it looks unique. DnL all looks the same. Sure you have some deserts and a little tundra and snow, but you cant tell the difference between one snowy peak and the next, or a clump of forest from the next. What is there looks good, theres just no variety.
Pretty scenery, like pretty scenery is all it takes to make a decent game. Like the previous poster pointed out 50 miliion screenies and no action. Perhaps they should rename the game from Dark and Light to Virtual Tourist Online. VTO , now that has a nice ring to it doesn't it ? You could buy some virtual postcards and send them to your virtual friends, stay in virtual hotels....l if the devs get around to building any that is.
Oh by the way guys thanks for your contributions, really very enlightening, and yeah I didn't mean to come across so positive again <--- that's me most of the time, not a good look.
Black what you seem to misunderstand here is what myself and I assume others of my mindset are looking for is some independent evaluations on the state of the game. It's not that we don't trust you and mugboy, it is fairly obvious though that you have some very deep connection with the game and a vested interest of some sort.
Now for example IGN which you may or my not care for one way or the other just did a preview on Pirates of the Burning Sea.Now while I am not much of a pirate fan, and had never really followed the game at all it sparked an interest in the game for me. Another example is some of the recent coverage of the Penny Arcade Expo ( PAX) and this years E3. Middle Earth Online which is now LoTRO is a game that I had long ago put to the back of my mind as vaporware, yet after reading some of the recent coverage of the game at those 2 shows, I am of the belief it may have some potential.
Now lets contrast this to Dark and Light. Where are the independent site previews? Where are the glowing snippets of information from the shows? There are none, with the NDA still in effect all we have are what the fanbois presumptions of "OMFG this game is gonna rock!" posts and whatever NPCube is posting on the games site which very frankly smells strongly of bull crap , ie. the beta testimonials. the screen shots show very little action and hardly any of the show any mobs etc. The video link you posted has been around for at a year or more now.
Al NPCube has to do to restore my confidence in the game is simple. get MMORPG, IGN, Gamespot, RPGPlanet or some other site to do a preview or drop the NDA and let the testers give us the straight skinny. Otherwise it appears that the Devs do not have faith in their own game and there fore why should I? They don't want the public or their fans to know what they are selling and simply want us to plop down our money for a pig in the poke so to speak.
So my only choice now is to wait till after the November "release" and make my final decision on whether to purchase or not on how well the game is received. Any other action is simply foolish and immature unless one is a beta tester and knows what one is spending their money on. While some other like to come on and say "bah it is only XXX dollars" myself I have a budget for everything and I would rather spend my 50 gaming dollars on something that I will be able to enjoy, rather than some frustrating POS whose servers are not stable or the lag is so bad it is unplayable. Not saying that DnL is in that bad of shape, but the point is I don not know, and until I know will be darned if they ever see a dime of my money. The bottom line is when thedevs are this tight on info and refuse free advertising from the gamesites in the form of previews I cannot help but assume the worst about the game.
Jackdog i will honestly agree with you that NPCube has not given enough info for its fans and hasnt tried hard enough (or maybe at all) to advertise DnL. I truly do wish that they had tried more to inform and interact with major gaming websites, but why they havent done so, I am not sure. As for Pirates of the Burning Sea and LotRO, i am also looking forward to both games - as long as they show promise.
As for DnL, I suppose the main reason why I have been supporting them is not only becaus they are an underdog, but also because there are many ideas they want to fulfill. If they either have the ability or even the will to try and implement these features, I am willing to support them. Many people will feel that it would be a waste of money to try this game even for a month with the limited amount of information given to the public by NPCube. Others (such as I) feel that we could at least give them so attention to see if it can improve.
I had followed Shadowbane for a long time before it had released; though, with every setback of the release date, I had grown less and less anxious to try the game. In the end, my desire to play Shadowbane was completely crushed at the reality of what it was (below what i thought it would be). I will try this game either it is bad at first or not, the only way I will find out is if I try it.
Anybody can say what they wish here, that is what forums are for, to argue on topics. I will respect your decision to try DnL or not. I do hope that DnL will be able to live up to its hype, it will only happen if more people are willing to at least try the game.
You know what the bad part is though Mugboy? NPCube was at this years E3 and from what I heard from a friend who was there. Apparently the only thing they weer showing then was the dragon flight, and they had a hard time time getting that to work reliably. No combat was demoed, no mobs or quests or anything such as that. Look on all of he gamesites that were at E3 this year and find me anything which mentions combat or tradeskills or anything other than the standard press release vanilla we are planning stuff.
I think it is admirable to support the underdog, but when that dog keeps peeing on the carpet something is wrong. We as gamers need to stop buying crap releases because that is just sending the wrong message to the developer. How can we ever expect them to deliver quality games when we willingly keep sending them money for crap? The developers are supposed to be professionals and this is supposed to be a business, not amateur night down at the local comedy club. I will continue to support the independent developers but my support stops at cash, if they want that then they damn well better deliver something for that cash. Game development is not a charity. Supporting the underdog is one thing, but helping them sell crap and calling it chocolate bars is another.
i saw the video of the dragon flight, which was the only video i could find of DnL at E3. It is agitating that they have not said much whatsoever about combat or crafting. In an interview all they said about combat was that it was "unique," they have said even less about crafstmanship - beyond what craftsman classes there will be. A bit disappointing, once i try DnL and notice its bad, or even crap, i'll definetly stop there, at least then, they wont take more then 65 dollars (if the account key will be even 50 dollars).

Well that is up to you my friend, however if all you want is a flight simulator a quick google search came up with a bunch. None of them even charge a monthly fee either

DnL graphics are merely "acceptable".
They're nothing to gawk over. DAOC has the same or better than DnL graphics..
and if you don't think so than just watch this video..

Ugh, Lupins are SO ugly! So are Dodos. Otherwise, that giant wall is kinda cool.
know what I notice most about DnL shots?
There never seems to be a damn thing going on. And theres never any interface shots. Back pack shots etc etc etc..
in other games like WoW for example when you look at a screenshot it always looks like theres lots of stuff happening even if there isnt..

the texture work and resolution in this shot is terrible. The seems don't even line up on the bridge.
the texture work and environments/level design in these for example look better.
