Sacred 2 was a mess to update 2.34.00... caused their tech forums to be flooded w/ posts.

At the moment it seems the people who claim they don't have any issues if CS isn't good yet will feel that way until something gamebreaking happens. When a dungeon boss screws up in WoW ( and they have a huge CS team ) people sometimes wait hours to get the boss reset. Final Fantasy XI is the same way. How about "PvP" games? I can think of many times when something has happened in AoC or even WAR when the server required a restart and we had to wait an hour or two to get it done. What will happen in DFO the first time somebody goes to destroy another guilds city only to find out the walls are bugged and take no damage? What happens the first time somebody gets bugged invulnerabilty and doesn't take damage from other players? What happens the first time the server becomes so sluggish it absolutely requires a restart? If the CS and CSR team sucks and they don't have many people it may take multiple play sessions for things to get fixed. I remember the days where it took two days in Shadowbane to get a group of three to four building fixed. Customer support is something to be taken serious.  This thread incorporates an issues we ( and the rest of us who have an interest in this game ) should be worried about. As another user pointed out, you need to have Customer Support set up and fully tested before launch. I have been in multiple betas where they dedicated two to four hours a day for two or three days on just having all the testers spam the systems to make sure that not only do they work, and all the CSR tools work, but to make sure the system itself can handle it. We may get a screw job here by DF.

Personally I am going into this game expecting things like this happen and for the CS to be terrible, it's a small company and I will give them a lot of leeway.  The only thing that would really annoy me is if every server was down for multiple days as this would mean that I would not be able use the service that I was paying for.  In this case I would expect extra days to added to the subscription or a refund for the lost playtime.

    Proof?

I don't mean some job posting on their site but actual proof that they have hired even a single person otherwise you are just spouting more of your sycophantic fawnboism.

So what happens if that exact situation takes place?

Let's say, for purely hypothetical reasons, that so many people are trying to download and patch an 18.4 GB client at the same time that the DF server(s) crash for several days. Let's also assume that Aventurine keeps to their current pattern of not saying much of anything to their potential players, and there's no real CS to be found, since of course, no one ever has CS problems and can just find solutions on the internet.

    What then?

I wouldn't play it, no big loss.  I'm not going to worry it about it beforehand though.

If it costs me £40 to find this out it nots going to be big blow.  If it doesn't cost anything then even better.

To be honest though if the client isn't a free trial I will wait and read the initial feedback.

Linky to update to the one you stated please.

Seems a little late in the ball game to be just now setting these things up. No sign of an infrastructure as far as I can tell.

No closed beta patch notes. No new web site. No customer support system in place. No anti hacking system in place as far as I can tell. No client post as of yet. No publisher as of yet. No payment system in place. No word of an OB besides the words "hopefully" from Tasos.

These are alot of things they need to get setup and running before Jan22. If you are a fan then you should be worried about these things if you want the game to go smoothly at launch.

If you are not, then you will have nothing to complain about when things go badly. IMO

Thank you for the linky but I do have one question about that post by Tasos.

It was posted July 18,2008. I would think we would see some sort of Infrastructure by now. 12 days till stated launch (launch time can be moved so thats no biggge) But these things should be up and running well before launch date.

If there is a delay it will most likely be because of this.

You don't know that for sure and neither does anyone else. Aventurine haven't even told people basic information about this game, like system specs, where and when to download the game, how much it will cost, who will handle billing, and what the monthly sub pricing models are.

I don't care what you think you know about this game, the fact that no one can answer those questions 12 days before a supposed release says that getting any information about things like customer service from Aventurine will be like getting blood from a stone. Also, heaven help whatever untested servers they have when people try to download 18.4 GB and then patch the client. If those servers manage to survive, especially if they don't do any public stress tests between now and the 22nd, it will be a miracle.

Aventurines customer support will probably be comparable to its level of community support, or even better.

Aventurine will probably not need any technical support for Darkfall anyway because Darkfall is more ready for launch than most, if not all of the MMORPG titles at the same stage that Tasos has personally sampled and it has been for quite some time.

Also you have to consider that Darkfalls passionate community are very hardcore and not like carebear hater troll whiners from other games like WoW, they don't need unnecessary things like technical or billing support.

Also if the game sucks I don't care because its only money, so stop whining, anyway I've never needed technical support in over 50 years so its not needed, and I will probably wait until I can try the game before paying so I wont need billing support either.

So just wait until release and people have already paid money to Aventurine before you start whining about all this pointless stuff.

na tasos just said that release will happen on the 22nd unless something majorly goes wrong .

like lets say they place where the servers are hosted burns down. or a major gam ebreaking bug that they cant fix in time.

they dont like giving info unless its needed

Well I looked around at there site (besides forum posting) and I can't find any listing of job openings for customer support. All I found was lead and programmer positions.

So potential players of the game don't need to know things like system specs, how and where to download the game, how much it will cost, subscription info (pricing models, who's handling billing, etc.), open beta info, or any of the other things that we usually know about a game less than two weeks before it comes out?

Come on, man. That's a cop out and you know it. If Aventurine is serious about getting this game out on the 22nd, and serious about reaching their playerbase, they need to step up their outreach. Start answering questions, give relevant info, and all that. The 22nd is coming up fast, and they need to start talking.

OK. So if the 15th comes and goes without any of that information being released, much less without any mention of an open beta, what then?

The point is, you don't know that at all. No one who posts here does because Aventurine hasn't told anyone what the specs are.

Perhaps for you, but not every gamer is as forgiving. Some folks actually like to know basic info about a game before they go and download it, or hand over credit card information.

Well unlike many of the lucky gamers here, I have had to contact CS. Even in those AAA games there was a delay that our group didn't like (getting stuck in a instances). I hope that Tasos himself will be there on launch helping us through our issues if they don't have a system in place by then.

@downtoearth, you're my favorite DF apostle You never have any tangible proof but you keep trucking along.

Unless, of course, Darkfall isn't going to launch on the 22nd anymore.

That's the problem. No one knows a damned thing about this game with less than two weeks before it's supposed to launch.

I'm not freaked out or angry over any of this. I'm just wondering why none of this info has been released to anyone so close to a supposed launch. It makes no sense at all and raises serious questions over whether this game will release at all on the 22nd.
