I played this game wayyyyyyy back when it had first launched and quit shortly after. I got my main to the teens (don't quite remember what lvl exactly), and then I got bored.

I loved the way the combat system worked in the game and I throughly enjoyed the dungeons in the game. My main concern however, was that there wasn't enough content in the game to keep me interested.

From there I've tried various mmos from LotRO which I could never really get into, to resubbing to WoW for the 100th time, to WAR in hopes that it could finally beat WoW, to EQ2 again after its' latest expansion. The end result becomes the same. I just don't want to go through hours upon hours of quest grinding, just so that I can get to the "awesome" end-game content.

What I want is to be able to have cool content without going to 60 or 80 levels of grinding to finally see it. I want to be able to play casually and progress. Has DDO actually become the reasonable solution for me?

Are you sure you played it at launch? The game was capped at level 10 at the time of the release and a few months afterwards.

Anyway, I still think DDo is the best PvE game out there. The dungeons are as close to the original pen and paper atmosphere and it's one of the few games out there that is quite unique and still getting frequent and regular updates.

To tell you the truth, I could've sworn I had a character in the teens but it's been so long that I'm not even sure now. The only thing I do remember however, is that I was doing quests around the area where that big marketplace was. The bazaar I believe it was called?

Marketplace yes, that contains quests for levels 3 to 5. But each level in DDo is divided into 4 sub-levels and at each level and sublevel you get customization options. You probably refer to these sub levels then :p

Its a good break from the more mainstream MMOs (WOW, LOTRO,EQ2).

I play LOTRO and jump to DDO when I need a change.

I haven't played in awhile and I think I may come back to see whats up. I'm dling the hi res client now I'm gonna rock a trial first and check out monk since that wasn't available to me back when the game launched.

It looks like my old server Kyhber is still one of the few remaining. Is it still active or should I try a dif server?

I can't wait to use Featherfall again

It sounds like you may enjoy DDO. It really depends on how you approach the game though. Some players just want to play end game content (which is really grinding again and again the same quests/raids to acquire rare gear), and consider leveling up as the "boring XP grind". Some others get bored quickly of the end game grind and have a lot more fun leveling up new characters, going through all the many different quests in the game.

If you're curious, I'm more like the former kind (I prefer to play capped characters), but I also enjoyed leveling up all my characters and doing pretty much all quests on all of them.

  • Is there a reason not to try out the new content etc for a month?  I mean you can always leave.

Frankly more people need to start playing MMOs fully intending to leave.  Its makes the games more fun.  This idea of perpetual ceaseless entertainment just leads to you doing dull gameplay for little reward.

If you think the game is fun play it until its no longer fun.  DDO should have enough new stuff and has a new class with the monk, that its fun for a month at least.

A friend of mine is a Dev and says they are adding a crapload of great stuff for new players with the next update.  I think now would be a good time to give it a shot.  I am rolling up a trial account tonight and hope to be playing for a little while.

The last Mod added a ton for new players, why would they do a second straight mod for new players?

Don't ask me.  I just asked him how it was going and he said the update due around late Feb. would be adding a ton for new players.

    Oooh!

I wonder of those additions would apply to current players as well.  Anything specific you're able to mention?  :)

The game is pretty good atm.  What ever they do I hope it's received as well as it plays.  As it, I think DDO is much better then the mainstream MMO's like Warhamer, WoW, EQ2 etc; it's got nothing on EVE Online though.  If there's another sleeper hit in store I would think DDO has the potential to claim it in the same manner that EVE Online did 3 years after its launch.

My friends and I finally made the break and left DDO in December.  That's 12 accounts gone.  All of us and a few of our kids that played on our accounts when we weren't so about 18 players total.

Maybe DDO will add more content, maybe it won't.  But it is way to slow in adding anything.  I would like to say we'll be back to try the game again, but I think with the exception of one or two, we've left and won't look back.

I'll be waiting for the next version of Dungeons and Dragons Online.  What did I wait?  12 years for this one since AOLNWN closed doors?

Actually I am wrong, and I posted inaccurate info.  I'm sorry.  Just want more people to check this out, and was basing it on some rumors.

I left the game after the first mod, came back for a month or two about a year or so later. Then I checked out a free wk end. That didn't get me back, but I have re-upped this month. I'm please with the amount of stuff I have to relearn and do. I'll most likely stay subbed unless my soon to be born son keeps me too busy to make it worth it.

Moral of the story is... You may have to wait a couple years between re-subbing

Congratulations!!  I just had a baby girl and she keeps me busy...  If you time it right there are still a couple hours you can squeeze in here and there for gaming.

Congrats on the son.  My son was born 14 1/2 years ago and he makes a great gaming partner.

What was the reason to cause all 12 accounts to be canceled at the same time - anything to do with the exploit that was also fixed in December?

(not calling you out for exploting - I think there needs to be more content which actually incorporates althernate methods of progression through the "dungeons".  )

So does that mean your friend is not really a Turbine developer? Or he just can not tell you anything without losing his job?

From my latest experiences, I would rather recomend a few other games to you than DDO. DDO is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I think there might be better options out there now.

I quit playing DDO because it was so difficult to get into groups at the lower levels.  I know that the dungeons are soloable, but I don't play MMOs to solo.  I have plenty of single player games if I want to do that.  Also, some of the more difficult dungeons require a group; there is no option to solo.

Is it still hard to get into groups?  I really would like to come back as I like DDO, but not if it still is mostly a solo game.

If you cant find a group, just start your own group there are other players in the same postion as you but are afraid to start thier own group for a number of reasons.
