Originally posted by templarga Then you are an uninformed consumer. I have posted the questions repeatedly anf only the most serious defenders of Darkfall say that we do not need that information, while most do not bother to reply because they know we deserve the information and are worried as the rest of us that Aventurine has not provided it to date.
I wasn't uninformed because I checked it when I was buying the game. Can you fill in the blanks in this question as an experiment: "I need to know ...... before release because ....... and I would not be able to do this after the game has released because ........."
Can you answer these following questions PLEASE or explain to me why I, as a paying consumer, do not have the right to the information?
1. How will the digital distribution be done? Private servers? Fileplanet? etc...? Will you to signup and pay before you begin the download (like SOE makes you) or can you get the game and then begin the billing? WIll there be a trial period (30 days or so) before the billing begins?
2. Have the tested the servers for distribution? Is there an indication/comment/info that they are prepared for everyone downloading on the 22nd? If not, is there anything from Fileplanet on the game or other distributors?
3. Do you have to pay for the game? I assume you do but If so, how much? Will there be any additional downloading fee? What will the subscription fee be? What about the VAT taxes?
4. Will the billing and costs and subscription fees be charged in dollars or Euros? Will they accept credit cards or will you have to use PayPal? How will they handle currency exchange rates?
5. Have they tested or prepared for latency issues for the U.S.?
6. What about a trial?
7. What about customer service? If I have an issue, will I have to call Greece or will they have various forms of CS (e-mail, etc...)?
----
And to answer your question: I need to know the above before release because..... Aventurine is asking me to pay for a product I have questions about and want to know the financial details about...... and I would not be able to do this after the game has released because......sure, I will be able to find the information but I would like this information to make up my mind to play or not. its about treating your customer as the customer and let them know they matter to you.
Seriously, what will happen if the game is 13 Euros a month plus taxes because of the EU so it really costs U.S. players $20 a month instead. Can you imagine the uproar in these forums?
And on a side-note, this information should already be decided upon and circulating around the Aventurine offices. They would have to have billing and registration ready to go and they need to be notified. They would need to test their systems and such. So why is that information too difficult to release? or why does Aventurine refuse to release it or think its not worth releasing?
Just answer the question, I didn't even read any of that.
Too bad. He hit every important question the community should be concerned about. Plus, his questions are only about the basic operation of a online game. He didn't even scratch whether or not it will be playable.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

That is all fine and great except for one thing: the game MUST deliver. And what everyone is debating is if the game will or will not live up to its promises. And the sad part is, with Aventurine so tight-lipped and not forthcoming with the information, nobody knows for sure.
I don't mind the not knowing at all I find it quite exciting myself, I can see why some people don't like it though. It's true that nobody knows if it's a crock of shit or an amazing game. Should I buy on release day or should I wait and miss out? Viewed holistically it's kind of like the actual game itself if it launches, full of risk and totally uncertain of what is going to happen next. Is that a shiny new toy my xmas stocking or is it just a lump of coal?
I hope it is good as otherwise I'll be back with nothing to play.

Don't you at least want know the minimum system and billing requirements?

Not really, cause I know my system will handle it and it won't be more than 15 Euro a month. Also I am not a no life basement dweller who MUST!!!! be there on day 1.

Interesting, looks like I need to be there on day 1 as I am a no life basement dweller... or as I like to call myself a hobo with an office...
Originally posted by templarga If it is 15 Euros, you can count a TON of players out.
Yes I think you are correct. I predict that a lot US players will find on launch day that the exchange rate is not particularly favorable and that their bank will be charging a fee for making a payments in Euro's and will just wait until US release.
Originally posted by templarga Hell just froze over because we agree. However the issue is that if this indeed does happen, and Aventurine doesn't provide information about it in advance, that will be a lot of potential players that they could have cost themselves. hence, why I think some information of this is needed soon.
Well yeah ok I concede that they should probably warn them about this. It is Euro release though so people should have the wit to work out for themselves that 1. They will be paying in Euro's and 2. It will be the standard Euro mmorpg fee (I believe that this is 15 Euro's but I normally pay in pounds so I am not certain).
If they do offer to be payed in dollars I will be gobsmacked.
Originally posted by templarga Yeah, without taxes or any other fees, that works out to slighly more than $20 U.S. There will be many people who will not understand why this is the case and will not care if the game is worth it or not. Many people have a $15 mindset when it comes to MMO's and refuse to pay for anything more even if the game is worth it.
Sadly, many people will assume that is will be $15 and when they find out its not, they will leave the game and refuse to come back. For many this will be viewed similarly as SOE's business practices and the forums will be in an uproar over it.
Now if a game is worth it, I would pay $20 (not for any already released games). However, for many that will not fly and it will only add to the Aventurine is trying to take you for all you are worth arguments.
It's Euro release though, if I wanted to play a game releasing in the US they aren't going to let me pay in pounds at the standard UK rate and I wouldn't expect it. I don't think it's unfair to suggest that people wait until releases in their region if they want the normal fees to apply.
Maybe I am wrong but I would be taking it for granted that this is what will happen if I was in the US.
Originally posted by templarga LOL, if only I had the faith that many of these people will understand this or feel this way. Sadly, they will not care about the details. I promise you if what we are discussing happens, there be eleventy hundred posts on this forums about Aventurine ripping people off and lying about the costs.
You are probably right but I will have no sympathy for them at all.

Dude, right now the only thing I really need to know is if the game is good, and when the hell will they are releasing it.
Also, and this goes to templarga, Tasos stated in the opencoffee thingy that the billing will be 10-11 euros per month.
I did read that but I also read elsewhere that it would be between 12-15. So who knows and until we see official releases from Aventurine, we will all continue to guess.

There is no way I'm just throwing my Visa card at them but curiousity is killing the cat. If no information is released then anyone who hands over money should also send £25 my way, I have an MMO coming out and its full of things that you definately want...
I hope its not a scam and only time will tell, my fingers are crossed.
They will likely sell it off of their website for digital download. Wait a week for reviews to come out and see if it sounds like it is for you. Hell wait a month if you want. The great thing about Aventurine is they aren't hyping the game at all, advertising for it, or requesting pre order money.
Why so many people claim Aventurine is not hyping/did not hype Darkfall?
I mean, they have a big list of features for it, including one I even memorized for finding it interesting: "the landscape is well detailed and was designed by our developers, it's not generated automatically", or something like that.
This goes with other countless more features. You don't need to spend millions in advertising in order to hype a game. Promising things like they did is one way to hype it, at least for me.
Now about spreading them, yes, this is by word of mouth. Doesn't change the fact that the promises can make some people jawdrop though.

U.S. players understand exchange rates. We understand the Euro will exchange to a higher rate in U.S. dollars. This "problem" is not the point. "Tasos even said" the price point will be at 11 or 12 (or was that 12 or 13) euros. The point, and the problem, is that we still do not know, European or otherwise, where the heck the game is going to park. We do not know the system requirements, we do not know the price, we do not know the distribution method, we do not know the required system specs. I know you stated your system is up to par, so is mine, but what if they do not support ATI, Intel, Nvidia, Matrox, or different cards therein (ie Geforce or Quadro).. This is not flippant infomation. This is all secondary to the mass ignorance of what this game even has to offer other than a few shallow authorized beta leaks.
This game, with the infomation we have now, today, this minute, has zero chance of a successful launch on Jan. 22.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

So whats stopping you checking this when it's released and then either not buying it or if you decide it's worth it upgrading you system to meet the specifications and buying the game at a later date? A lot of people probably will meet the requirements and if they don't they can buy it later, either way I can't see a problem. I can't see why you are concerned about how many people start playing on release day or if some people need to buy it later. Actually this might even be good for me from a purely selfish point of view as it will mean less people clogging up the noob areas.
BTW I think that your are hugely overestimating the general publics appreciation of exchange rates ect. A lot of people will not even think about this until they see a euro sign on the payment form.
