Hi, I'm wondering what my safe operating temperature /s is for my cpu and pc in general, so I can set the internal sensor to an appropriate level?
I have a AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 6000+, mmx, 3d now, 4g ram, 640 gb hd, 9400 gforce 512 ddr mb's, 500w psu, atx case
cpu, vid card, psu have all have fans and I have one case fan on the back,( up to four fans can be on the case, 3 more coming tomorrow hopfully)
I have the sensor alarm set at 60c/126f it sit's on 52c/128f, ram sits on 42c/112f to 44c when I play,( eg; lineage II(full vid options on)) it will hit 62c to 63c and the alarm goes off.
I should also point out that I live in Australia and outside it's about 39c to 42c,(very hot and dry)
Thanks’ for any advice.

Cpu's fry at 90C... keep it under 80C and your fine... safe is under 60C.....
I keep my quad core processor at less than 60 for safety. Case temp always less than 30. I'm glad to hear you have a fan just for vid cards - mine fried the other day :P I'd imagine that you're always going to get higher temps down under as it's so hot .
Also, from my experience, AMD chips fry at 90+, Intel just slow down with overheating then shutdown - very nice safety feature when you're fitting psu cooling and it may not be seated perfectly the first time.
Slightly off-topic, but are you sure a 550w psu is enough? Sounds low for that setup esp. if you're running loads of case fans on top.
Thank's for the intell, I bumped it up to 75c, I'll monitor the performance for a while and see if I it catch's fire, it's about 34f in my room at the moment and slowly getting cooler, tomorrow I'll get the other three fans and install them, I was wondering about the power, it's 500w with one fan and that's about all I know about it, what would be better or recomended for this set up?
I would suggest better cooling. Although 60c is a safe enough temperature to operate at occasionally, overheating will cause BSODs even at temps below 60c. You want to have temps below 40c for CPU and below 60C for GPU.
Because of the high ambient temperatures where you live, the most optimal solution is to shell out for a liquid cooling solution that works on your CPU and GPU in particular. You should also put some heatsink on your GPUs memory since this is typically not heatsinked and can crash your system if it gets too hot.
Fans don't draw much power. In alot of cases you can daisy chain 4 fans on 1 molex and provide enough power.
what kind of cpu cooler? if its stock then you should get a aftermarket cooler. i reccomend xigmatek.
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx best cheap reliable cooler that outperforms more expensive ones.
make sure to measure your case to make sure it will fit.
Also cosider using a good thermal compound. Most processors come with their own either pre-applied or in a small package. However, those thermal compounds are usually not very good. A good thermal compound, like Arctic Silver 5, over the stock compound can greatly lower the CPU temperature.
OCZ's and ArcticFreezer's new compound has actually performed better then Arctic Silver.
CPU should be 60-70.. set the alarm for 75 or 80.
Graphics cards often run much hotter (and often temp monitors like speedfan label a vid card sensor CPU). I know my vid cards can run up into the 90's.

I have too agree on that... after 80 your in the frying zone... even if you stay constant at 75C thats bad.... but what this guy said.... is only if your using water cooling that you should be staying at those temps... lol air colling is 60-70....
Cleffy: You want to have temps below 40c for CPU and below 60C for GPU.
First of all download this small program.

Rivatuner is probably the best tool I have found. To answer your question my Video Card and CPU sit around 50 degrees but if I put on AoC jacked up high the video card can hit 80-85 degrees and it freezes the game once in a while. With Rivatuner I can go in and with a couple of clicks set the fan on the video card to 50% and it keeps the card around 60-65 degrees constantly. Noise increase is minimal.
Changes or no changes if you download something like rivatuner you can see 100% what your system is doing before and during gaming and allows easy adjustment. But yes your Video card will freak around 85 degrees.
I also raised my PC because the back was slightly blocked. Make sure air flow is good.
You in Adelaide or something? I hear its blistering down there right now
