I  planned to start from the beginning and enjoy the journey, exploring and not grinding to the end in a month or two.   My impressions of the game is that it has always been great but lacking in areas.  I never had any crash issues, bug issues or frame rate issues believe it or not but then again I was not grinding hours and I have a kick ass system.  I played every now and then and took breaks while I played other games.
The only thing that was missing for me at the beginning up until a couple months was variation in items and the social (crafting, housing, economy, a place to socialize)  aspect of the game. PVP was always there. That changed a couple months ago with all the changes that they did make and I enjoy the game even more.  I read alot of players bad comments on these forums and if you half a brain you can  figure out most, not all, but most have not played the game in a long time but still feel the experience they had almost a year ago pertains to what is going on today.
Thats a shame, they hurt nobody but themselves because they already spent the $50 bucks to play the game.  Now the $50 investment gets more expensive while the box just sits there instead of keeping your mouth shut and trying the game sporadically to see if you like it when new changes come around.  As far as $15 a month, going to a crappy movie cost three times that much with food and your ugly girlfriend. Not only that, you still do not have a copy of the movie when you go home, to try it again later to see if the Titanic does not sink this time.
I just can't get enough of this argument. You realize you can save 15$ a month by not paying for a shitty MMO, right?
For anyone looking to try this as a new game or retry it, here is an unbiased opinion from an old guy who really does not give a crap if big companies succeed or fail.  This also pertains to talk from people who love to talk about the stock of funcom.  This has no bearing if someone is having fun or cannot stand the game.  Example:  The company I work for stock went from $15 to under $1 in that same time frame.  Alot of people lost alot of money as I did.  Guess what though, I still made six figures even though their stock sucks.
    No comment, really.
GRAPHICS = BETTER THAN ANYTHING OUT THERE
MUSIC = BETTER THAN ANYTHING OUT THERE
QUEST = BEST IVE SEEN (AND I HATE RUNNING QUEST)
    ANIMATIONS = BEST IVE SEEN
REALISTIC SETTING = BEST IVE SEEN (LOOKS)
POPULATION = ON MY SERVER NEVER WAS A PROBLEM (HEAVY POPULATION NOW FROM MERGERS)
    CRAFTING = NEEDS WORK
ECONOMY = NEEDS WORK (WHEN THEY FIX CRAFTING ECONOMY WILL FOLLOW)
STABLE = NOT AN ISSUE (YOU DO NEED THE APPROPRIATE COMPUTER)
BUGS = SOME HERE AND THERE (I HAVE NOT RUN INTO ALOT)
GROUPING = (I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM MY SERVER, BUT LOTS NOW SINCE MERGE)
PVP = (ALL OVER, MERGE INCREASED THIS ALSO)
ITEMIZATION = (THIS IS WHY I AM ACTUALLY PLAYING MORE, PLENTY BUT IT IS NOT HANDED TO YOU)
As with anything in life, think for yourself.  Someone once told me:  "If it feels wrong before you do it, then its wrong"  If your thinking about trying the game new or retry, do it.  Do not come looking for someone to talk you into it or out of it.
So you are not trying to talk people into AOC... hypocrisy at its best...

You miss the point of this comment, not argument.  The point being you can waste $15 on alot of things and still not get the return that you got, based on your comment, even on a shitty mmo.  If I was spending your $15 every month then to you yes but its not your $15 that I am spending or anyone else paying for the game for that matter.

    No comment, really.
No comment exactly.  That whole stock bs does not correlate with having fun or not having fun or if the company will or will not be around.

LOL, if you think so.  I do not play the game enough to care one way or another.  Plus Im to old to care about trivial bs like that, I got enough things in real life that deserve more attention.  The game is not "MINE" etc.
I do not think someone who has played since week one and is only level 45 is trying to sway anyone.  Not only that, I am far from an advocate on the forums to sway people, with less that 40 post since 2005.  You should take a lesson from the internet, do not assume tone or peoples intention based on text.
The comment was for people to think for themselves.  You can only do that by either trying it or not trying it.
If its such a shitty mmo, why are you here?  Oh, to save everyone who tries a shitty mmo from going to hell, our savior, god bless you for taking your time to save the gaming world.

I came back after being every dissapointed after playing 2 weeks or so at launch.i have stated this before AOC and War both OVER hyped their games and could never live up to it.i'm now back after all the hype is gone,i played it before and now know what to expect and its better than i had expected wich makes me enjoy the game more.i really like pvp but pvp wasn't goin on at launch it was a gank fest and spawn camping by people mostly twice or more my lvl. now i'm able to play and have fun i still get attacked here and there (the name of the game) but its real pvp people my lvl good fights win or lose.
in pvp i play more of a defender style of play, where i don't go out looking for people to jump or attack (unless in a BG,scenario, or siege setting) unless i see some one that jumped me earlier then i'll actively hunt them till i feel they get the point..lol like i was in province the other day i saw a 41 ganking a 26 (i was 22) i stopped to help the 26 and noticed the 26 had a 27 ranger helping him we killed the 41..THEN the guy i helped and his freind turned and chased me across the entire zone till they killed me i was like wtf..lol

It is an option, please vote. You are talking about the PvP system. The system we have now, is the PvP consequence system, where high level players get Murder points for bothering low level players. This is why you now can enjoy PvP.  Part of this system also give you PvP levels and access to much cool PvP gear, but thats a different storry.

but the PVP syetm itself isn't why i returned, it is why i'm not getting ganked by high lvls wich is really nice.

i returned to give it another try without all the over hyped expectations, before i returned i had no idea what had been changed or fixed. from now on for all games, i'm not reading too much about them before i try them.

  • DrowNobleDrowNoble Member UncommonPosts: 1,297

Since release they have really fixed what needed to be fixed and added content as needed.  I'm sure the pvp consequence system added also intrigued those players really into pvp.

This game had a LOT of hype at release.  I think the overexpectations of many left them with feelings of disappointment.   I came in with the only expectation that it would stay true to Howard's original stories.  To me, it met that expectation.  I knew there wouldn't be any player cities to siege right away since, players hadn't built them yet.

It's a good game, not great, not bad.  I still subscribe and play it casually.

This game is where it need to be now. Fun as hell!

Another Campaign to make it look everything is fine?

Game is falling fast in numbers playing and the added activity is based on server merging.  Stats show that the game is falling down in popularity and ppl playing faster than any other MMO game ever released.

Holy crap avery, those graphics are terrible.  Do you have everything turned off?

it's funny when people post the 'beautiful graphics' screenshots it looks much difference.  I'm guessing you were actually trying to play the game here, so had to turn off everything.

I think your a bit too far ahead of yourself. This is not my screenshot. Nor was it from my machine.

Guess again, as it was aimed at Lugh, it was only he who would of got the situation.

The reason why the game can look different because you can scale it up and down more so than most games. Which is why it looks the best on a high setting which a high percentage of machines out there imo can handle.

This is just another reason why people are getting back into the game at a quicker than normal pace recently - optimization.

I can play the game on full max setting and siege at comfortable FPS even with FRAPS taking 7 FPS off.

Have a good day and try to limit the guessing if your not sure ;)

  • AzrileAzrile Member Posts: 2,582

the point still stands..  that screenshot is terrible and is more of an actual  candid 'gameplay' screenshot that shows actually what the  game looks like

When people post the 'beautiful screenshots' its usually when they aren't really playing, and just bump up the graphic settings in order to get a nice screenshot.

Well I am sure everyone thanks you for the first opinion and the second "I know all about people tastes and motives" part.

Everyone I know takes screens on the fly as they usually take them seeing something worthwile to capture.

Because AoC is more optimized "some" of these people I play with can crank the machine up a few notches than a few months ago.

It might look like a an actual screenshot to you if you have a not so great machine too.

The game is a ton more stable than at launch, they fixed alot of things and we are getting more content plus an expansion coming so AOC is actually fun now.

    From www.actiontrip.com:

What on Earth have PC gamers been buying the most in 2008. Well, let's have a gander, shall we (the words, Battle Chest, Sims & Warcraft keep coming up very often):

    1. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
    2. Spore
    3. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest
    4. Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
    5. Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning

    6. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
    7. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
    8. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Ed
    9. Fallout 3
    10. World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
    11. Call Of Duty: World At War
    12. The Sims 2 FreeTime
    13. World Of Warcraft
    14. Sins Of A Solar Empire
    15. Warcraft III Battle Chest
    16. The Sims 2 Apartment Life
    17. Crysis
    18. Left 4 Dead
    19. Diablo Battle Chest

AoC had a four month headstart on Warhammer, so its sales numbers appear to be right where they should be logically.

The question is: Just how far ahead are they of Warhammer, and can they fix AoC up faster than Mythic can fix Warhammer?

I think FC are content not to rush anymore like they did in getting the game out. I reckon it is more of Quality and proper upgrades and fixes. The last few patches have been excellent, and this one coming through is going to be the best yet! Things are progressing at a steady pace, it will only get quicker now some major things are out the way.

Ones in green are the ones I brought in 2008 off that list.

So many people are coming back for a second round of Age of Conan because we didn't quit because of the gameplay.

Agreed. After launch, it really felt like they were in panic mode, trying to throw things out to the masses as quickly as they could without any real coherent plan. Then a change at the top, and the new boss has everybody sit back and take a breath, maybe go out for a cheeseburger (not a steak). The patches feel more deliberate, more coherent.

Exactly, things seem to be more rounded and have meaning now. It is good that they have changed in being more open with the public testers. Plus without promising dates like in the past. The quality of the patches is showing.

LMAO. This thread shows just how out of touch from reality AoC fanboys are. FC merges servers, and now all of the sudden they actually think that the increase in population on their server is not from the mergers, but only from new subs. This is really bordering on a mental sickness at this point.

Experience first hand in game is better than any theory you could come up with fellas :)

Seeing is believing on many servers, it is not happening on all and I can only speak from first hand in game experience. It's unfortunate some can't say the same.

I think most of these posters know the truth about population on AoC servers. They just try to make it seem like everything is 100 better than it actually is, basically lying to potential customers, just like Funcom before launch.

Message to everyone: Don't believe the crap you read here, no matter how convincing it may sound. Ask your real life friends if you want to hear the truth about Age of Conan.

There is the choice of buying the game for under $10 out there at a bargain and people can make their own mind up - something which I am sure would be better without much outlay, then they can compare the info from current subscribers to the outdated info floating around and make a better informed decision as a consumer out for the best deal.

Things are not 100% better but they sure are in "most" area's.

I don't think people are lying in saying it is better, it is just from experience they garnered first hand as per many feedback "2 cents" threads over the first few pages here done in the last few months from many respected posters. Again many say things are not 100% perfect but are better in many area's in which they had grief to start with.

There is a difference from poster 1 to poster 2.

Poster 1: don't play the game I beg you, they are all liers and scammers, I couldn't take it anymore and cancelled in August 2008

Poster 2: We since then this is what we have seen (insert some constructive info here) these are some things coming through in short term (insert some stuff here) but at the moment some things are still the same (insert some things here) but generally speaking the game is on the right track and more healthy etc etc.

Difference is poster 1 is desperate for you not to play the game where as poster 2 gives some first hand experiences and differences and doesn't beg you to play, just lets you know changes from a before and after experience something poster 1 can't do :)
