I will not argue about gender behind a keyboard in relation to MMO's.

I believe 1 in 30 are female roughly. The MMO's that suck that keep comming from China and Korea usualy have more females playing them. As for Europe and North America is concerened most  fall into that 1 in 30 ratio at best.

I am suspect to when folks claim to be female, I know theres alot of folks who wish to be other genders IRL. I see it on the news with those Rainbow marches etc. Most use it as a decietful way to get items and groups easier because some horny 40 year olds think they are female and give a dude some gold and alot of stuff.

Wanna know if shes female? GET HURRR ASS ON VENTRILO!

This is probably a good idea, since you won't win the argument.

    Uhm...no...guess again.

THIS type of behavior is crap that has been brought on male gamers by.....your OWN gender.  So faulting female gamers for this shit...just floors me.

Wanna know if shes female? GET HURRR ASS ON VENTRILO!

On THIS much, I'll agree with you.

I am female, and I've been gaming for MANY years (since long before some of the kids on this site were even BORN), I always talk to my guildmates on Vent, regardless of the game I'm playing.  And yes, they will be using Vent in this game TOO.  However, they had not talked to me on Vent when I started playing.  They were helping EVERYONE (and still are) that is in the beta, not just those they THOUGHT might be female.  The reason for this, in part, is that there hasn't been a tutorial worked into the game yet.  The OTHER reason is that they're all just REALLY nice and helpful people.

You know, there are a LOT of guys that are regular posters on here  that are playing Link Realms right now.  If anyone doubts the validity of what I have said about them being incredibly helpful (the developers, GMs, etc, that is) just ask someone ELSE on the forum here!  God forbid that anyone should trust what a WOMAN says.  LOL

Another thing...I would gleefully log on to ANYONEs Vent server to "prove" that I'm female.  Seriously.....you guys have been burned SO many times by your OWN gender being asshats and pretending to be women, that you don't trust the women in the game that say they're women and ARE!  And 1 in 30?  Where are you getting those statistics?  Let me educate you....

Scott Caplan of the University of Delaware

The study discovered that “most hard-core players are female, that gamers are healthier than average, and that game playing is an increasingly social activity.”

Lead researcher Scott Caplan of the University of Delaware said the result demonstrated how out-of-date stereotypes can be.

“In many cases, stereotypes reflect what I would call a ‘cultural time lag’,” he said.

“What we think about men and women and videogames may have been true 10 or 15 years ago, when there were mainly console video games or single-player games. Attitudes to games may date from the early years of consoles, say researchers

“But what were seeing now is that games become social, and as these online games become communities then the attraction for that kind of behaviour might increase” Caplan said.

Some more highlights from the study

    * women who reject traditional gender roles might be more likely to play MMOs s

    * women are more healthier than their male counterparts - partly because they have more exercise than men

    * playing computer games reduces the amount of time spent in front of the television.

    * Men play to win while women play to socialize

Starting to open your eyes and "get" the BIGGER picture now, boys?  Gaming is no longer YOUR "realm."  What used to be the virtual "Boys Club" has grown in to a much much more balanced social reflection, particularly in MMOs.  So before you all go flapping your jaws (or keyboards) about how we women "don't play video or PC games," do a bit of research.

I could list literally HUNDREDS of links.  There are some professionals that have devoted their academic studies almost ENTIRELY to the perceived "phenomenon" of women in gaming, such as Aleks Krotoski (check Wiki for info on the research done).  But, I thought I should stop with just a FEW and let you "chew on them" a while.

He GG, sorry about my original comment. I was "visualizing it" like something on the real world. I suppose you are not advertising your genre on this game.  I don't like to talk to you as "girlgeek", it put the genre before the persona, and I dont like it. Is true, I hate it.  I hate it too wen people put his race, like Latinoboy, or Blackguy.  I think is wrong. but he.. is my problem, If you hare happy with that nick, more power to you.  My opinion is not important.  You could use the nick  latinogeekblackgirl if you want.

I am the original poster of the comment, and I don't doubt the validity of what you say. I was posting my impression and feelings.

I would undo my comment, because all this talk is offtopic, and uninsteresting, we hare here to read about this linksomething new mmo, that sounds soo interesting :-)

I just heard about this game through this post, and I have to say the game looks really nice, I've been looking for something like this.  Now if only I could get into the beta :(

  • coxtrotcoxtrot Member Posts: 7

Yeah, It's still down.. definitely not from the lack of sexists on this site (male and female)..

  • LazzerasLazzeras Member Posts: 54

Downloading now still closed to opening a beta account.

After reading Forums looks like because of the hudge response they might be going to application format to get into beta.

I know a lot of female gamers.  There's quite of few of them I'd trust in any dungeon over most males.  There is some truth to women getting more assistance in games than males though, but bottom line is, it's about personality more so than anything.  If I get along with a person and they are willing to do the things they can do on their own and they can hold their own in battle, I will value you them regardless.  The people I like and who show gratitude are more likely to get assistance from me... simple as that.  I don't know how many times in game.. (especially playin WoW) when I've spent 30 minutes or longer helping someone with a quest and all I see is "thx bye."  Then down the road if I could use a hand that same person catches amnesia.  Most of the women I've took time to help in games really appreciated it and remembered it.

There are some people... men and women who don't manage their finances, who always request help that seems to be unneeded.  And ofcourse women are more likely to get this help than men, but it's only so much help someone will get just because of their gender.  Because at the end of the day if someone can't hold their own, he/or she would be a hinderance to the whole party.  I've found that women are more disciplined in battle or more likely to stay in their roll in battle than trying to make the "highlight reel" and risk getting everyone killed.

As I said I enjoy players with skills regardless of the gender and as girlgeek this might have been true back in the day, but things are different now.

*sorry for the edits folks everytime I posts more things come to mind...lol*

Since I'd pretty much tried everything else I thought I'd give it a whirl. I was pleasantly suprised.
The game offers players a sandbox world with the added feature of being able to design you're own piece of he map (through an included map editor that reminded me of a basic version of the NWN mod program). Once your map is created, a deed can be bought of a vendor and your piece of territory can be uploaded.
The other things that struck me right away were the graphics and animations, the quests (the ones I have tried so far) and the community.
The graphics are far beyond what alot of 2d games are currently offering. Everything looks amazing, characters are well animated and the enviroment is lush and full of life.
The quests that I have done so far have been a breath of fresh air. My favourite so far has to be one that a higher level player helped me with. To increase my strength there is a special fruit one can eat, grown only by carnivorous plants in a certain dungeon. To get the fruit we had to lead swarms of bees to the plants so that they feed and their flowers could bloom. Once we had fed the plants enough bees we had to defend the fruit from other hungry creatures until it ripened and we could eat it. Alot more interesting that the usual "kill x number of x creature" quests.
The community is also a drawing point for this game. Everytime I have logged in so far I have had higher level players find me and help me out with learning the ropes, and showing me cool spots etc. I have never asked for any help, it has always been offered.
Oh something else that I forgot to mention is the magic and effects. I got to see my first real "magic show" in the game yesterday when I was asking another player what kinds of spells are available. The spells and effects are spectacular.
So if this sounds like your cup of tea, then head over to www.linkrealms.com and give it a go.

Why the hell would you call this an Open Beta, to signup you still need a Creation Code...which means it's still in CLOSED BETA; if it was in Open Beta they wouldn't have that requirement for you to signup for an account! Hell, it even says so on the account page:

Linkrealms is currently in a private beta* testing phase. If you wish to join the beta-testing team, you must receive an invitation from an existing member. They will supply you with your account creation code.

    * Which is their term for Closed Beta...!

I saw this gmae's website months ago, and was totally interested in it then.  I however forgot the name of the game and never bookmarked it, so I've been scouring the wb looking for this thng.  Finally finding it in this thread. can someone sen me a creation code so I might try it please?

  • ghost047ghost047 Member UncommonPosts: 597

A close beta is not for you to try the game but to help. I hope no one will send you an invitation code.

Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!

I tried this game a few months ago.....It was pleasantly addicting. A good sandbox style game. Variety of items ...so no one looks the same.....and I don't know what one of the posters before me played...but I received nothing but courteous assistance from staff and players alike. Unfortunately , I play too many mmos and Linkrealms got the initial cut....but I can definitely see myself going back in the future.

  • ObliviousXObliviousX Member Posts: 112

Cool stuff, been wanting to try this one for a while. But why is this in the open beta section when the game is clearly in closed beta?

  • sasuke9191sasuke9191 Member Posts: 1

anyone with a beta accounts here to invite me? need a creation key :P

  • Belmont1Belmont1 Member Posts: 1

Same here, a creation code would be much appreciated :) At first I didn't want to test the game (with the video it looked like just a random hack'n slash), but the OP attracted my attention, the features in this one looks nice, and if the community is as stated above, we have here a great game in perspective. So if someone have a creation code in his pocket, I'm interested :)

  • qombiqombi Member UncommonPosts: 1,170

I would love to try the open beta as well. I think the game has a lot of innovative features.

  • jujdredjujdred Member Posts: 19

looks like magic world online updated.    might have to give it a go.

    thanks

  • DarkcowDarkcow Member Posts: 26

Not exactly sure how the invite codes work, but does anyone have a spare invite for this game? =]

It looks really interesting, and i'm tired of WoW and Darkfall. Looking for something more... original? lol. :3

My email is xxrosesburnblack@yahoo.com, if you need that.

(That's assuming 'invite only' means you can give out codes/invites. if not then blah, i'll have to wait)

  • You know, when this game finally does go Open Beta, nobody will even notice because this thread has been erroniously proclaiming 'Open Beta' for so long.  Seriously, if this thing was going to allow people to play it, we would already be playing it.  Instead, it's dying on the vine.

open beta ended quit a while ago nub:P and the game already has millions of registerd users so stop trolling when you obviously know nothing lol what a fail of the century

So this is one of those new kind of games where they have the Open Beta before the closed beta? Did they release the game before the open beta too? I think the project manager on this game may be dyslexic. Normally, you do a closed bets, then open beta, then release.  Are they reading the release schedule in a mirror by chance?
