Pre- order is bad practice for me in general ...It gives money more value then it should have in this already money driven world ..

And damn i had so hope's these guys were gamers  and not sales men wannabys ..,.their no pre-order  policy was one of the basic why i was fan of  them ..

damn..another singing bird silenced and another flower burned in the dune earth...

I'll only preorder if it comes with the white border features.

I have stopped rewarding companies for not having open beta's.

I will no longer pre order a game with out a demo, or open beta for me to try first.  I am done wasting money on half finished "indy" projects because they are afraid to let the masses play and see what the game is about before they buy it.  That goes for single player games as well.

I know the fanboi's will whine at people with this attitude, but fanbois will be fanbois for any game, and I am done paying 50bucks for half finished products even if I get a free month at the start.  Ill wait until the US release, and if the game isn't horrible by then, and I have a friend who has an account I can try out I may buy it.

But until then, they need to prove to me they aren't releasing crap.  Nothing to do with being cheap, has everything in the world with stopping the "trend" of companies relying on the fact they can get people to buy the game and pay to beta test their products for them.

As for the EU release before US, have they said if the EU to US server transfers would be free for the first month or so for those who don't want to wait?

I was wondering when we would start to see more polls,I kid you not there has been more polls on this game than most mmo's put together,I am waiting for the poll.."do you think we should make another poll about Darkfall just to keep the saga going?"

Anyway there is more chance of tasos telling the truth and not being so self involved than there is of me buying a pre-order of this ...ermm game?

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

heh 34 people out of thousands and thousands speaks volumes?

    playing: darkfall
    waiting: earthrise

I usually enjoy preordering, I like the usual extras and rewards that come with a preorder.

But I will not be preordering Darkfall because they just don't seem trustworthy enough.

I could be mistaken, but didn't they once claim they weren't going to do preorders, and even used it as an argument to make them look less vaporware-ish? I could be wrong tho, it's been a while.

Um... no. I work hard for my money. I'll wait for the reviews before I buy, thank you. If there are any reviews.

  • FischerBlackFischerBlack Member Posts: 573

I will pre-order. I honestly will not care less if the game is a total dud, even to log in and see DF as a total failure will give me some sort of amusement.

On the other hand it may actually be a great game and i'll have the jump on all you other stingy bastards in progression.

Actually it doesnt. What it means is most of the people who voted dont preorder games anymore.

I vote no but that makes this game no different then any other game because i wont preorder any of them.

Part of me doesn't want to pay the money for a half-finished shambles, and half of me does for this very reason.

I'm intrigued to see just how bad DF really is and in a sadistic way that is almost worth paying money for.

No ofcourse I will not pre-order this game! So many signals scream to not to do it!

I will patiently wait and see when people actually start logging into the game and that I start hearing positive sounds that 95% of the promised features are actually in the game and working, instead of just 5%. (like was the case with Dark and Light).

And more important. That the server(s) are actually stable and don't crash or game turning into a slideshow with every large PVP battle that takes place. (like in Warhammer Online).

    Cheers

    So i voted yes.

The only way I'd pre-order the game is if I was able to play it in advance (beta or "free trial") and liked it enough to pay for it.

Preorders will be around mid-february so 20 days after free trial.

    So I will preorder if...

    - I've been able to test the game in the free trial

    - OR I've seen an hundred of so of new good player reviews* or leaks from different sources after the trial (* I hope the NDA will be lifted, as it's called "trial" and not "beta"), ideally including a dozen or so player made real gameplay videos

    - OR I've read 5 or 6 positive reviews on serious and well known sites like mmorpg.com, ign, etc..

    - AND if the preorder is a real preorder where you don't have to pay the full price of the game before release (like for any game from an honest company), not a pre-selling at full price without refund (like for DnL/Mourning)

    - AND of course, minimum specs have been clearly given and I'm sure (from leaker/reviewers saying on which kind of computer they play) the game will be able to run correctly on my configuration

If these conditions are not met I will more probably wait for march player reviews after release.

Let's assume for a moment that 16% is a true indication of the number of people that will pre-order. If we take into consideration that there are about 200,000 people signed up, that's 32,000 people who will pre-order.

We don't know how much pre-ordering is going to be, but I'll make an estimate of 15 Euros.

    So that's 32,000 x 15 which is 480,000 Euros  (just over $635,000.)

I don't know how much they've ploughed into development, but I guess recouping something at this stage is better than nothing. Of course these values are purely estimates and so the final figure will probably be much larger/smaller, but it should give you some idea of Aventurines thinking.

^^^ this is the answer.   If on January 22nd, there are a lot of normal people playing the game, posting videos and reviews on various sites, and the game is finished.. why not pre-order.

But the fact is.. nobody is going to be playing this game before the pre-orders.  Anyone who thinks anything is going to change on Jan 22nd is... well... as ignorant as the people who thought the game was going to go live on the 22nd to begin with.

Nooo.  I have pre-ordered games in the past from Amazon and other major name shops.  I have bought things from companies I don't know much about via PayPal.  But this company?  I wouldn't trust them with my bag of rubbish let alone my credit details.  That goes for any billing company they can dig up to represent them, too.

    Yep.

I'll pre-order the game. I have a Visa Gift Card coming, and I can use that. I'd rather say I at least tried to make a change instead of sitting back, and complaining about  a game I haven't tried yet.

I'd even go as far as to say the majority of the people flaming the game don't even plan on playing the game to begin with.
