Personally, it is non-instanced housing, and it is my main draw to Darkfall. I want to be able to own a piece of the world, and have people be able to see it. Games that don't give you a house just plain suck, and ones that give you like an instanced room are just a slap in the face. Non-instanced housing makes you feel like part of the world and needs to be in every MMO. I loved the good old days of UO just exploring the world looking for people's vendors, and seeing what everyone's house looked like for ideas for mine. Good stuff.

Multi personal ships.
I cant wait to join a crew on a big ship and sail around the DF world, fight other ships and explore.
The idea of bringing back the MMORPG into MMORPGs is great. I really hate when you "become" the ship as in example PoTBS.
I like the open-endedness.
Things like:
- No levels (everything is skill based)
- Liberal crafting system (make anything you can see or use)
- Go anywhere (no zones or invisible borders).
- No artificial limits on posessions and looting (you can steal or take anything...even mounts).
All that adds to the immersion for me.
That is the main thing I like about the game...but I also like the graphics, the complex and real-time combat system, the all-PvP aspect to the world, and Faction-based warfare, This game seems like a D&D version of EVE, but actually improves on EVE in many ways.

if you just want a house to dress up, you shoul be playing Second Life. Darkfall is about killing people. Not showing people the new curtains on your house.
sorry cant choose between those.
My blog:

Constantly killing people gets old VERY fast, unless you have some kind of sociopathic tendency. Some people actually like to do different things in a game. Narrow-minded attitudes like the one you express in your post are the precise ones that make a lot of MMO communities suck. You shouldn't dictate what or how people choose to play.
Oooo...I totally agree on the UO thing. However, in Darkfall, rather than just being able to STEAL from your house (like could be done in UO, if you were skilled enough as a thief), people will actually be able to come along and burn your house to the ground, take everything in it, and completely demolish what you have worked so hard for.
In my opinion....that MIGHT be a bit too much like RL, to fit in a GAME that I'm playing as a recreational hobby and temporary "escape" from the realities of RL. Games are supposed to be, at the BASE of their structure....FUN to play. Now, while fun is defined in many different ways, by many different people....I find it hard to imagine not having any way of protecting your property. Hell, even in UO, you could insure at least your gear and items you were carrying on you, by the time I started playing, anyway. AND.....if someone actually robbed you....while it was really sort of upsetting, you could at least be a little impressed with the level of SKILL they must have developed to be ABLE to do so.
Honestly, that is probably the biggest drawback to DF I see, for myself....not the FFA PvP looting, necessarily, but MORE SO the fact that you can't really protect your property say, oh....in the middle of the night? I don't know....guess we'll have to see how these things actually function when they're done implementing them.
I still have much hope for this game, and I WANT to be a primary crafter and make armor and weapons and food and things that the armies NEED....kind of a provisioner/armorsmith, I suppose, is my ideal. And yet, I know that that means my fighting skills will not be as honed, because I will be focused on crafting. Hopefully, a "guild" will adopt me to supply them with all of their warfare needs, and then protect me because I'm GOOD and FAST at what I DO do well.
Meh...I guess it's all speculation at this point. Time will tell....
Still teetering between being hopeful, and being a naysayer....just trying to be patient and wait to see what happens.
====> Best MMO Feature (in my opinion): (I can't list just ONE.)
*the story unfolding around you
*being able to "build" your character's "lives"
*helping to create an immersive functioning virtual world and economy

Uhm....Second Life is not an MMORGP, it's a glorified porn chat. I can think of a lot of other REAL MMOs you could have used as part of your childish slam there. And you're 40 years old? Be honest....do you live in your mother's basement?

Wisely stated. That is actually another drawback to Darkfall. It seems a lot of the "community" is made of of tiny tots that really want to play CS Source, but maybe Mommy and Daddy won't let them play it. So if they can show Mommy and Daddy a game with houses and fortresses, and knights that is perhaps less OBVIOUSLY only a gankfest....maybe Mommy and Daddy will pay for their sub? ROFL
Seriously...the entire POINT on an MMORPG is that it incorporates ALL kinds of things to do. There should be PvP...sure...without the restraints of some other games...yup. There should also be a MYRIAD of other things to do besides that. Otherwise, all you have is an FPS dressed up in fantasy armor. Pfft.
If all you want to do is kill shit....why play an mmoRPG at all? The majority of the game is completely WASTED on people like this. Go play Counterstrike or some other FPS so you can "getcher frag on," and let people who really WANT to play an mmo R P G....do so.

Playing Barbie dress up has nothing to do with Darkfall at all. There are seperate games for that.

Wow you couldn't be more narrow-minded if you tried. Making your own shop, space management, making a tavern?, a guild hall, etc. is not the same as an avatar chatroom. And so what if I like showing off my designs? I was an innovator when it came to UO house designs - I can't prove it but I'm pretty sure that I was the first in the game to make a fish tank out of random stuff.

Man, don't bother with this guy. He obviously has no understanding of game genres at ALL. He wants to play an FPS and dress up in plate armor. There ARE mods for CS Source that allow just that, btw. He's not even remotely interested, obviously, in playing an MMORPG, which is why the community of Darkfall may just completely SUCK. It's too bad that the devs are wasting SO MUCH TIME trying to make this insanely immersive PVP MMORPG, with so many many various things to do....only to WASTE IT ALL on punks like this supposedly 40 year old ganker, that probably gets his real life feelings of manhood and security from killing teenagers in a PC game.

I am sorry I don't like Barbie dress up. Feel better now?
FFXI lets you make one character, that can play most every class in the game by changing in your house. (a few are special classes you have to earn then you can switch normally)
Need a mage? Quick change, put on cloth and grab your staves. Short a tank for that boss? Poof, I'm wearing plate with all the necessary skills. Want to solo? Switch a Beastmaster and go farming in the hardzone solo that would kill 3 man groups. And the best news... you don't have to make alts or try to keep coming up with alt names.
This feature needs to be in more games.

A house is for displaying manly trophies! Like hanging your pink hairribbon on the walls, to show everyone i pwned j00!
And so what if they also go well with my curtains? Manly curtains!
I am sorry I don't like Barbie dress up. Feel better now?
Neither do I. "Barbie dress up," as you call it, has nothing to do with the desire to play all aspects of a game. I suppose you're be out there ganking in the nude then? Or wait....will you be equipping yourself with some good armor? Ooooo.....playing dress up, at all?
It's all part of the genre. The whole PURPOSE of DF is to not be LIMITING. We'll see how they do with that.

Since when? A house is used, when I play anyway, as a crafting shop, and a place to store all my crafting supplies, where my forge is, my stove that I do my provisioning from, a place to store created armor that's ready to sell, and even a shop to sell from, if the game allows. We don't know WHAT DF is going to do with housing, so far as I know...or even it there will be any implemented AT ALL. But to say something stupid like, "it's for displaying trophies and hanging up your hair ribbons," is uninformed and moronic.
I suppose if you're playing like "Hello Kitty Online" you might not have other things to do with your ingame housing, but in MOST MMOs that have it, it's used for a lot more than hair "ribbons." lmao

I am going to start my own RL MMO, it will be called First Life. I'll cook, clean, participate in a player-driven economy and it will have a severe death penalty and definately full-loot. It will cost me a few thousand dollars and some surgery if I want to play as a hawt female though. Even then, hawt will likely be a pretty subjective term.
Sorry, it has been a long day and I'm tired. I take no responsibilty for this post or its contents.

The realism makes it fun, because you actually have something to lose. If you have nothing to lose, whats the point? This isnt Second Life or The Sims.
If you dont want it destroyed, dont build in a high risk area. Or wait until you can defend it before you build it. Or ally with other people and build a mutual defense.
If all you want is to socialize, there are lots of MMOs that offer that. Personally, I like the danger aspect of a realistic system like this.
Honestly, that is probably the biggest drawback to DF I see, for myself....not the FFA PvP looting, necessarily, but MORE SO the fact that you can't really protect your property say, oh....in the middle of the night?
But you can. You just cant do it alone in the middle of nowhere. At least not easily.
The game description says you can build player towns complete with NPC guards.
I still have much hope for this game, and I WANT to be a primary crafter and make armor and weapons and food and things that the armies NEED....kind of a provisioner/armorsmith, I suppose, is my ideal.
The FAQ says you can do that. But PvP is the core of the game.
Seriously...the entire POINT on an MMORPG is that it incorporates ALL kinds of things to do. There should be PvP...sure...without the restraints of some other games...yup. There should also be a MYRIAD of other things to do besides that.
There are a myriad of other things...but it is all subordinate to PvP.
I'm not saying you shouldnt be allowed to play how you want, but there are already lots of games out there that cater to what you seem to want (Everquest comes to mind). If there are already 1000 MMOs that have what you want, why do you need 1001?
If all you want to do is kill shit....why play an mmoRPG at all?
If all you want to do is craft and chat and play house, why not play second Life? I dont mean that sarcastically...it seriously seems to do all the things you like, and it does them well. Much better than Darkfall even.

The game will have many things to do, but the primary focus will be battle and death. If you're not emotionally prepared to have your precious pixels killed many times for no reason, Darkfall is not for you.

I agrea with OP, mmo's are about playing in a virtual world whereas you should be able to do what u want. Not bound to a certain playstyle, but rather to have the freedom to do what u want. Such as building a massive house or going out into the world and killing everything in sight and hanging the corpses on the side of your house via a very large spike. All about freedom.
Multiple layers of gameplay: Running aroud casting spells, to controlling a ship, to RTS elements where you control a city etc...
No leveling systems. Something with more depth, such as a skill system, but more casual friendly than EvE's.
Player controlled economy.
Basically what im asking for is EvE with twitch based combat and a more casual skill system :P
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.
