Well, it certainly shows the confidence EA has in Warhammer.
(in the theme of Super Bowl winner's "I'm Going to Disneyland!")
Interviewer: "EAgames, you've just released a massive oRvR PvP MMO game called 'Warhammer Online'. The game sold 800k boxes in the first month and now has a loss of around 500k subs, crashing endgame, huge endgame PvE gear grind, crowd control/disable fests and shrinking servers. What are you gonna do next?"
I cannot like this...first Universal get the right to the movies and now this...And the last book hasn't even been released yet! Yes i'm over reacting but I don't care, I love this series and it's bad enough the thought of movies are bouncing around but an mmo and a series of dodgy EA-console-horrors to boot!? May the Light have mercy on us all!
That is because Robert Jordan is dead. They brought in another author to finish, but you know how astronomical a task it will be to finish some one else's series? Especially with all the lore involved in those books. From my understanding there was no final book manuscript just pages of notes, so don't expect the final book to be traditional style Jordan.
Anyway, thats why the final book is taking so long.
As far as it being made into an mmo, I'm not a big fan of using a lore from books or movies for games. UNLESS they use the world but do it at a different time so the current lore remains untouched and built upon. For example 50 years after Rand emerges victorious. The books have it set up so they can continue to learn new spells and skills, and Relics of power that can be fought over for control etc. I just think following a premade storyline puts too much restrictions on developers and by so doing, creates a dull game without many surprises. But based on the world, at a different time allows for growth and innovation. Just my opinion of course.
However I'll keep my eye on it and see how it progresses, Just because i disagree doesn't mean it can't be a great game.
Edit:
BTW I am by no means being disrespectful of Jordan, I love his work and was sad to hear of his death. I realize my post might have came off kind of blunt and disrespectful to the man.
"If that would be as the books it would have FFAPvP and no safezones, just as the books."
daarco, you are looking for Darkfall...oh wait....
As far as the Wheel of Time... I don't care if EA is the distibutor, as long as this Red whatever studio can make the world living and as close to the books...see Turbine and Lord of the Rings Online...then maybe it wont waste all of our time...
"That is because Robert Jordan is dead. They brought in another author to finish.."
It was his son that was "brought" in and his father basically told him the deal before he died...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

The author finishing WoT is Brandon Sanderson, not RJ's son. There are supposedly a few written chapters, audio recordings and detailed notes to work with, as RJ was aware he might not live to finish the series. Also, Mr. Sanderson will be working closely with Harriet Jordan, who was RJ's editor. You can learn a bit about Brandon Sanderson at his website www.brandonsanderson.com .

Ever tried using a search engine? They do help in checking out your information before writing an erroneous post like that above. As someone said above, his son is not involved in the final book(s) another author is involved. There are some interesting blogs by this author as he works on them.
While we're putting out our favorite book series, I want an MMO based on the Malazan Book of the Fallen! I call dibs on Karsa Orlong! That dude kicks everyone's ass, especially Chuck Norris!
I totally agree. Not only is Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen the most epic, unique, and overall MIND BLOWING fantasy series on the shelves, I think it has an amazing world for an MMO. Martin's A song of Ice and Fire is a very good series too (they are making a TV show based on it) it just doesn't fit the MMO realm well enough.
Wheel of Time? Sure. But it's only a matter of time before all the WoT fans finish the series and pick of Erikson's Gardens of the Moon and shit their pants.
If you call Karsa I call Rake.. mwa ha ha. If they did it right all the Named characters from the book would be dispersed throughout the world ready to kick our asses or help us in some way. Ohh how I wish..
it's so great because it is so gritty and different than other high fantasy, and the characters feel historical without losing the romance that one expects from fantasy characters.
I also loved the Wheel and will probably at least give the game a go.
here are a few more and what i'd feel about them, i mean just to talk about something while we wait for wheel to come out
Sword of truth: well, what would your skills be? torture (for mord sith) and arrogant objectivist ranting (for richard clones) no thx.
Belgariad/other Eddings: Such classic books. I can't imagine how to make them into a game. But if it were done well i'd lifetime-sub.
MZB avalon books: Well, i spose DAOC ind of covered this
Tale of the Otori: PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ game about these books.
Glenn Cook's Black company: Almost seems tailor made for a pvp centric game. I can imagine Silent11 and silent111 dueling long hours into the night.

Hmm. I'll give it a look just like I do for most any game that has nothing to do with SOE. I don't have the hate that some have for EA (SOE holds that place firmly) so my only concern would be that EA doesn't continue the trend of rushing games out before they are polished like most companies seem to do now. I'm pretty sure it won't be sandbox, but I have no past experience with any of Jordan's work so I have no strong desires in that regard. I do know, though, that if it's themepark, if I do buy it I probably won't play past the initial 30 days. Which makes me wonder I would even buy it in the first place, heh.
