I'm planning to buy a new desktop pc and I don't have that enough cash to buy those uber hardwares, this is only what i can afford right now.. i need suggestions on my build if its good to go or any slight changes.

pls look:

Asus M2N-MX SE Plus Mother Board

AMD Athlon x2 5000+ Socket AM2

Kingston 2GB pc6400 DDR2

Dynamo 500w Power Supply

Inno3d GF8600gt 512MB DDR2 128bit

There are a couple problems with the build.

1st is the Asus M2N-MX SE.  Its an AM2 board that only support HT1.0.  This will put your hyper transport speed at 1000mhz.  I would suggest an AM2+board because of its more advanced Hyper Transport.  They should actually run near the same price for a budget board like one with a 740v North bridge.

2nd is your Graphics card.  The 8600 is an under performing part and is priced more then better competing parts.  I would suggest a GeForce 9600GT, or an ATI HD4670.  Both will perform significantly better.

3rd is your processor.  Although it is not as much an issue.  The 5000+ and dual cores in general are starting to become bottle-necks in games.  Such as in Grand Theft Auto IV.  This trend is only going to continue.  However, for a budget build its a good choice and is more optional to use a better processor like a Phenom II 920.

i suggest getting a am2+ motherboard. phenom 2 cpus are compatible with it and you can upgrade in the future.

I actually suggest you save up some more money.

Get that build that you REALLY want.  And you'll never regret it.

Some excellent suggestions here. To answer your immediate question though, it probably will run Starcraft 2 but it may have some lag points. It is hard to say at this time. The updated suggestions here will definitely help. Cards are so cheap though, you really should be looking for at least an ATI 4850, which can go for under $130.

Screw the ATI deal, stick with nVidia, you know you love it.  sLI > cross..whatever..pff.

I purchased my evga 9600gts for 200 somethin dollars, and got a 30 dollar mail-in rebate with both.

    They run amazing.

ati owns the video card market. sli is useless for 99% of games.

It doesn't really matter. he's probably not going to do SLI or crossfire, for now at least. what exactly was your budget?

Crossfire has the hardware in current cards to run it in 100% of games.  That being an inter-connect.  Its just the drivers are not done.

  • nickelpatnickelpat Member Posts: 661

SLI is useless for most games, avoid it and try to stick with one card. Crossfire has the same curse.

The 8600 is an old card, although not bad. I run one but you really HAVE to upgrade from it if you want to run any newer games. I would recommend using an Intel proc and hence changing your motherboard. Intel procs benchmark a bit higher than AMDs at the same speed (an Intel 2.6Ghz dual benchmarks higher than an AMD 2.6Ghz, etc.). If you can give me how much you have to spend I may be able to help a bit more.

I recommend more RAM too, at least 3GB if you're running Vista. The PSU will suffice for the current setup, but doesn't allow much space to upgrade. So yes, the setup you have there isn't bad at all for the present, but come future releases and upgrade it'll probably need major upgrades by next year. Do you have a case too? Don't forgot that and cooling.
