Just downloaded the played the trial...but

I just downloaded and installed the trial version of the client and I love this game. Believe it or not I've never played this game until now. I made my character but for some reason all the servers lagg terribly for me.

every other game runs with no internet lagg on my computer and I've checked my connection. The trial only has 1 expansion onto it "Shrouded Isles" (Wich I persume is pretty old)

Would I experiance better performance if I bought all the expansions with the updated client? I persume I'm trialing the game on "old" servers? and the new expansions have newer servers which run better?

I just started my trial on US classics today and can't say I had any issues on them all (i'm playing from England too).

Maybe it's just a routing thing? Sorry i'm not much help!

This was my first ever MMO when it came out.

 

Of all the MMOs i've played since nothing has compared to DAoC. Hence why i've come back (to US servers anyway). Shame the EU English server numbers have dropped.

 

Maybe if they ever release Origins they could entice a nice healthy number back to this great game.

When I played last time, about 1 year ago now... I found a lot of Europena people playing on the US classic servers.  I guess GOA really mangled the game over there.  I kind of feel bad for them especially since they're doing the same with WAR...

To the OP, yeah you can get a few more expansions and get better graphics.  If I recall correctly only the last 2 expansions you really need to pay for.  I think they're Darkness Rising and Labyrinth of the Minotaur.  That or just go find the platinum or aniversary box set that gives you everything for a really low price.

I'm still waiting on Origins but the hope is dwindling.

Hey guys thanks for the reply and Well I just bought the 2 expansions lastnight "Darkness Rising" & "Labyrinth of the Minotaur"

I downloaded them to my desktop and when I try to install them I come up with the error saying

"This doesn't appear to be a DAoC Catacombs Install Directory. Please select a DAoC Catacombs install directory."

I selected the directory were my game is installed but i still come up with the same error no matter what one I try to install. I currently have the trial client installed on my computer "Dark Age of Camelot - Shrouded Isles"

Do I need to download and install "Trials of Atlantis Expansion", "Catacombs Expansion" before installing the "Darkness Rising" & "Labyrinth of the Minotaur" expansions or somthing??

I don't remember if you have to install all the expansions but if you're not hurting for space and can be bothered to download them all then I'd say go for it.  I've never had that problem so I can't say I have a better answer for you.

Do you have an AMD dual core? If so you MUST install the amd dual core optimizer. DAOC doesnt run well at all without it.

Free trial is SI or TOA I forget, so... SI -> toa -> cats -> lab

Sucks downloading them all... but you can delete them afterwards and just use the lab.

yeah i have AMD dual core I downloaded it and installed it but when i click on it in my program files were it was installed it dosnt really do anything

For some reason I get really bad internet lagg just in this game and i dont know why.

I've disabled my firewall, my anti virus and my windows firewall, I have even gone into my networkiing card settings and changed it to 10mbps/Half Duplex

I can play the 7 other online games on my computer without any lagg whatsoever but this one game... I keep getting an error saying "The client has stopped recieving messages from the server" and it discconects me

Yes get the latest trial DL upgrade they give it for free then do the pay ones have to have catacombs to do the other 2 because thats the new engine.  Played this game on and off for 6 years and I still go back to it fun game best ever I think. Also I think your lag is the old engine on a new engine system thats why they give the free upgrade had same problem

hmmm well I uninstalled the trial client and redownloading it as we speak. Im going to try to install the trial client then installed all the expansions then run the game then and see what happins. I don't think it will work, and if it dosn't i wont have any choice but to not be able to play it

Since you're running low on ideas I'd like to suggest that you go over to The Camelot Herald and go to the feedback section and send them some asking for help with your list of problems and the steps you've tried to remedy the problem.  If at that point they can't do anything to help you then I'm out of ideas as well.  Perhaps they know something we don't.

Hope you get some answers.  Best of luck, I'd hate to see a person not being able to experience DAoC because of computer issues.  I truly believe that this is one game that everybody regardless of taste should experience especially in it's prime when it was very active and full of people.

I'll definitly do that thanks everyone for all your help I really appreciate the time you all spent just to come help me. Hopfully I can get the game running because I really do like this game alot so hopfully i can get it going.

well i hooked up my old computer to see if I can get dark age of camelot going. Downloading the game now
