It will be a open beta test for ALL?!?!
I dont remember where I did read this, but I do remember something about Tasos speaking that there is too many beta application, and therefore not everyone will be allowed to test it on open beta... Was it a nightmare or was it truth?
I speak this because I feel that, it its truth, we will go around the same old sh*t, that ´there is plenty of beta, thats not only because you and all your friends and friends of friends and friends of friends of your friends are all unlucky that we dont have a MASSIVE beta going on...".
Plus I have been reading a lot lately about pre-order, but the trial that I have heard so much before it I havent heard much more nowdays... (and IF there is a trial, I REALLY, REALLY hope that there is no Credit Card involved, because for sure I will not put my CC numbers on anything that Aventurine builds, before being PRETTY sure of it, no more Dark & Lights for me).
I am one of those guys who have a lot of faith on the DFO system and ideas, but I am pretty angry about how the things are being developed. I WANT to believe in Darkfall, but my logical senses tells me that I falling again for a MMO bad development scam (as D&L and in a minor degree, AoC).

That would be the sensible thing to do. If you are unsure, then don't enter your creditcard details.
Just wait a bit longer. Until februari 25 at least. If the game doesn't release at that date, draw your own conclusions.
- there was never an open beta that allowed everyone to enter. Just remember WoW, AoC or WAR.
- There is no announcement for free trial. You can always wait if you are not sure and buy (or not buy) the product later.

Ihmo i consider it not a free trial but an open beta stage, since a free trial would handle all the beta applicants which according to the devs are more than 200k.

If they really intended on getting as many as down2earth speculated then why did Tasos use the word "thousands" ? Nope, if they could have handled 100k they would have tried launching the game already.
Nope I think they still have one server that isn't handling as many as they thought it could. Hopefully they are sincere about wanting to get some more people into the game... then even if the NDA stays up we might hear some more info.
Remember they were supposed to have 700-1000 Beta Testers and another 1000 invited in the current Beta, according to downtoearth. From all reports we've seen on the Beta Leaks... it's a couple hundred at most.

The open beta will be invite only (how they select people hasn't been disclosed) with full NDA in effect. So it means that Aventurine may invite more people to the closed beta or just pretend they have, in short it's a joke in my opinion though some seem convinced otherwise.

And that's why I stay far away from this game until I see REAL evidence of REAL players playing this game and see REAL reports, screenshots, videos and feedback!
So far Aventurine behaves like the Chinese Communistic Government and I hate communism and sensoring.

I think it's a bit miss-leading to call it an open beta (many other mmos did the "limited" open beta, with only preorders getting in.. not an open beta, imo, either), it seems to me that it is more of a "limited" stress test. Nothing against them for this move, they are a small indie company, and they obviously don't have the resources to support a free-for-all open beta/"free trial" at this point. Well, at least this way, the selected fans won't have to deal with the general "riff raff", and all the problems that come with it, such as ques, crashing server(s), general asshatary.
But isn't the whole point of a stress test to push the servers to breaking point and see what the limits are?

mmmh aoc had stress tests, oh and the final features of aoc were tested internally... you know the rest of the history.
You really need to test these things months before release, vanguard tested raids just at the end of the beta so in the release they had no raids in game, aoc tested sieges just at the end of the beta so in the release they had a turd, i dont wanna say what was tested in DnL.
Anyway in one month we will know how good or bad the game is... or not.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I will not spend a penny on Dark and Fall until I am pretty sure (bein in the 'open' beta or after a lot of 'leaks') of it...
Tasos has done little but confuse the situation with his use of the words "free trial". Free Trials are only done on the release version after all beta testing is completed. Its obvious beta testing is not complete and the game is and should be still in the closed beta phase.
Closed beta is invite only and a more serious test of game mechanics, net code, and other critical systems. Its the most serious testing phase out side of internal testing and can use paid or unpaid testers. The devs want serious feedback and testing, not people looking for free play. The NDA is enforced to prevent among other things, bad press and rumors based on a game thats not ready for release.
Open beta normally uses more invited testers and drops the NDA though serious testing is still being done on a variety of mechanics. This is when the information n the game begins to flow freely. Still not time for the free play folks.
Public beta is normally where serious stress testing of of the network and servers to find any remaining issues where max load is important. Generally the public is invited to just play the game though there may well be further patching.
Free trial is where there is no official testing and the public is invited to evaluate what is considered a finished product.
I know theres more to it than this but at least everyone would know what to expect. I think Tasos is just trying to cover previous mis-statements.

20-100k ...I don't think so. They said they where going to let in thousands of players. Not tens of thousands. I bet 5k people will be let in, out of the 200k that are waiting.
